attention citizens of turtle island!!!
our new world is unfolding quickly where i live and it is exhilarating to see. here are some ways we have been securing socialism in our community:
1: signal groups
-buy nothing/item exchange groups to cut out spending on tools, furniture, clothes, crafts, etc.
-ride share/walking groups to pull from the auto industry
-neighborhood specific groups to connect with your circle, pool resources, share updates/info, (also includes Rapid Response groups to most efficiently respond to 🧊 activity)
-chore groups for body doubling, dog walking, snow shoveling, dishes, etc (virtual calls are great for this one, keeps us all on task)
-groups by demand! need to plan a seed sharing project? unite survivors of trafficking? putting together a community meal? start a signal group and use it mindfully!!! (it’s encrypted but not airtight)
2: community/neighborhood meetings
weekly meetings held in a facility w a kitchen (we use a giant lutheran church but it is NOT and CANNOT BE a religious event. open to ppl of all spiritualities but no bias)
meetings start w a meal (you only have to pay if you are rich but a lot of us give as much cash as we can) and then we break into groups w different discussions/topics. these can (and have) include(d):
-resistance song circles
-signal/data security
-stopping the construction of local data center
-crafting
-neighborhood specific assembly
childcare and food service is provided for free by vetted members of the community. at the end of the night we come back together and are grouped by neighborhood to further deepen those connections.
3: food sovereignty
since it’s winter here, we have to rely on the outside world for now, but community meals, locally sourcing when possible, and not eating at any chains are good starts.
besides that, this spring will bring many gardens, urban farming, greenhouses made w recycled windows, sourcing/seizing land inside and outside our city, etc.
we will also be having workshops geared towards seed/sapling sharing, personal/indoor gardening, food crops, and the like, then later in the season we will transition to hosting food preservation workshops
4: health/skincare sovereignty
-cut out the goop: any plastic bottle where the first ingredient is water is a scam, and some pedophile is at the other end destroying the environment w it. water, sodium, and alcohol does not a moisturizer make. switch to real homemade soaps and raw oils/tallow/beeswax. a good rule of thumb is to not put anything on your skin you cant eat . so much cheaper and your skin will be so happy
-aloe grows like a beast inside even in the north. one small cutting could last you literally your lifetime
-SAUNAS (or turkish baths) for the whole community. 2-3 sessions a week reduces all causes of mortality by 40%
