They gave Ed a chair to sit and he was right there next to his wife. This would be done in thirty minutes or less, he was promised. “Can you feel anything?” he asked out of curiosity when this was such a new experience. On the other side, they were working to get their baby out and he was just there, all he could do was hold his wife’s hand and keep speaking to her to comfort her. “I love you, baby,” he whispered with a smile, as he was there in the operating room on the other side of the curtain with her, always holding her hand. He looked to a nurse who nodded, it was almost done. “Almost there,” he repeated back to Rosie. His heart was pounding out of his chest, if she could feel it. Both of them would be fine, as everyone had promised him repeatedly. Obviously, he didn’t know how this felt for her, but he was there. His presence was unwavering.
He heard, “There’s your baby,” and seconds later, a cry. He froze when he heard it; it was coming and he knew that but somehow didn’t expect it so suddenly. Above the blue curtain he saw this little baby stretching her arms out and screaming at the top of her lungs. “Oh my God,” he said, and repeated, “Oh my God.” He started to cry, hearing her cries; her first breath took his his away. “Look, Rose. Look at her,” Ed laughed and shook his head as he clasped Rosie’s hands tighter than ever before. The minutes felt like seconds. He nodded, over and over again. “She’s gorgeous, baby,” he whispered against her lips to share a kiss. Tears were streaming down his face and he was thanking their angels watching over them. “Is she okay?” Ed asked desperately along with Rosie. The first thing the nurses did was wrap their baby loosely in a blanket and they brought her to the other side of the curtain to see them. He would never forget the moment they placed her in his arms, “That’s Mommy, baby girl,” he whispered, looking at Rosie in tears as he held the baby closer so Rosie could see her face. All of her beautiful features. She calmed down instantly as soon as she was held next to Rosie and the model touched her for the first time.
“You did it, babe. You did it,” Ed chuckled, kissing her and their minutes-old baby girl. They had a daughter. “What are we naming this sweet baby girl?” an orderly asked the beaming parent who were so entrapped with their baby girl to notice anything else happening around them.
Rosie smiled back at Ed when he curiously asked if she could feel anything, “it´s so weird, I can feel something but so weird” she giggled and licked her dry lips staring up at her husband, it gave her peace and she could feel calmer looking at him as she felt that the moment was getting closer.
Once the baby was out everything went by faster, she was crying and laughing, she couldn´t stop repeating that she was there, “my girl” she couldn´t wait to have her near and look at her for first time closer, her tears wouldn´t stop and when Ed held her and put her close to her she cried even louder admiring their perfect creation. “Hello, sweetheart, It´s mommy, Hi” she said sweetly and between tears, she leaned her head up to kiss her head “oh my God, she is perfect, she is perfect” Rosie looked up at Ed and then back to their little angel who had stopped crying as if she knew who was talking to her “oh my God, hi bay, hi, sweetheart, you are the most precious little thing” Rosie said.
