One of my dreams last night.
I dreamed I was one some kind of cruise ship/yacht and most of my family seemed to be there with me. I then found out that a large zeppelin type aircraft was on an exhibition and was going to land on the ship. (which it did successfully). then someone pulled a plug on it and the shell just collapsed like a giant slowly deflating balloon and started covering the ship. I then discovered I was part of the ship's crew that was in charge of making sure this deflated zeppelin didnt get lost in sea. So I was on the main deck and most of the rest of the crew was up on the top deck where the craft landed. Suddenly, one of the crew members lost his footing and when down the newly created slip'n'side that this giant deflated airship created. Yeah, pretty sure he fell in. Then, another member started sliding down, but he was moving a bit more slowly and sliding right towards. This obviously made me obligated to try to save him. So, he slid off, but I caught his arm like every other action sequence and there we were: hanging off of a giant cruise liner covered by a giant sheet of deflated balloon. Cool. Then, this guy decides that jumping off and swimming to this outcropping in the middle of the water would be our only option of getting rescued and ultimately back up onto the boat. I thought that the shark that I saw swimming not too far away from the outcropping was enough reason not to swim to it, but this guy was sure it was our only option. So we jumped. Idiots. Luckily that's when I woke up.
Thank goodness.
I can't make that up.
Oh yeah, I can cook :)
My job is to call people who live here.
Today I woke up thinking about...
Racism. As weird as it sounds, today I woke up thinking about racism. I think it spawned from a mix between a really weird segment on public television that I caught last night and some song that came on my Andre 3000 Pandora station. You see, I come from an acreage in rural South Dakota, and the town I went to school in had a population of about 1,700 people, and It was about 90%. So there's your background, now here come my thoughts.
Everyone knows racism is as old as time, but what is race? Just a different phenotype? I know that's a stretch, and more comes along with that person than just their skin color that makes them different. However, if you simplify it in that manner, can you not say making fun of someone for having blue eyes, or making fun of someone for having red hair is discrimination? Because, let's be honest, most of us laughed at the "GINGERS HAVE SOULS" viral video that went around. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EY39fkmqKBM and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WiHI_TZF3n4&feature=related). And if we have racism based on skin color, can we not call this discriminatory hate based upon hair color? Would a new term spawn as a sister to racism somewhere along the lines of Haircolorism? haha, but honestly... I know this is a wild generalization about discrimination, but dang! What if, you know?
So I woke up thinking about this Haircolorism theory in bed and then thought about my childhood. What if I grew up in a world where Redheads, Blondes, and Brunettes all had their own social realms? I mean, I grew up completely disregarding that my two closest friends were redheads. It hardly even occurred to me. Then I asked myself, "Is this what should be happening with racism?" My answer now is NO.
I think in this modern day world of everyone struggling to be PC, we are going about cohesion of humanity from the wrong direction. To think that we should look at everyone as uniform, is to look at a jigsaw puzzle from the bottom side only exposing the ugly brownish gray backing while hiding the colorful picture of its topside. Why try to solve a jigsaw puzzle by not noticing that some of the purple pieces won't mesh with the green pieces, and some will. The fact is, every piece is different, and every piece has it's place. Sometimes they'll merge, sometimes they won't. Regardless, respect them for the place that they hold.
So, first, I accidentally deleted my first tumblr. dang. then! they make me take a picture of myself....yar
