I AM AN EX-TERF, AND THIS IS WHAT TERFS BELIEVE.

The majority of trans people DO NOT know what terfs believe.

Terfism is not just “transphobes who also want to be feminists”, terfism is a very specific branch of transphobia with very specific rules and laws. It is different from what you probably imagine when you picture a generic transphobe.

I will be using the terms MTF and FTM for absolute clarity.

There will be always be some outliers for these rules but the vast majority of terfs believe the following things:

1. MTFs are just men who want to be women. Terfs refer to them as “TIMs” (trans identified males). When terfs say “trans identified male” or “trans man”, they DO NOT mean FTMs. Terfs will never call FTMs men.

2. FTMs are just women who want to be men. Terfs refer to them as “TIFs” (trans identified females). When terfs say “trans identified female” or “trans woman”, they DO NOT mean MTFs. Terfs will never call MTFs women.

3. Terfs DO NOT believe FTMs shouldn’t have access to women’s spaces. Since terfs believe FTMs are women, they believe they belong in women’s spaces.

4. Terfs DO NOT see FTMs as “gender traitors”. FTMs are viewed through a sympathetic lense, often pointing to their transandrophobia rant posts as evidence that they are still treated like women and therefore should be pitied as women. They see all FTMs as victims of MTFs.

5. Terfs DO NOT exclude FTMs from their “feminism”. They advocate for everyone born with a vagina, no matter how they identify.

That being said, FTMs, when terfs say “keep men out of our spaces”, let it be known they are NOT talking about you. Terfism is hostile to cis men and MTFs, not FTMs. Please stop making a transmisogynistic hategroup about you. Thanks!

If a man wearing stereotypically “feminine” clothes and makeup is degrading, then the fact that he’s a man isn’t what makes it degrading. The problem is the clothes. You’re just used to women being degraded.

If you put the female animations and poses in a video game onto a male character and it suddenly looks “funny”, that’s because the male characters move normally and the female characters don’t. You’re just used to seeing the female characters portrayed as objects.

Something cannot be degrading, stupid, or comedic when one sex does it and normal and “sexy” when the other does it. If something humiliates a man, then it humiliates a woman, too.

it's the large scale social force that keeps women as an inferior class, and all actions/believes that serve that end. someone who doubts women in leadership roles could still be very kind to the women in their life, but they function as part of the force keeping women disempowered, so they're still misogynistic. a sports coach for a co-ed team that still favors boys or men can still be kind to women, or a hotel manager who primarily hires women as cleaners, or mothers who raise their daughters to learn household chores but not their sons. misogyny often comes from kind, well-meaning people who just haven't examined the consequences of their biases

I genuinely believe encouraging young girls to become superfans of men's sex life is part of the effort to, once and for all, turn society into one big, male sexual playground.

In Western society, there's this cultural narrative that all same-sex intercourse in media is automatically adjacent to being anti-patriarchy or pro-woman. The fact that most same-sex love stories that get any weight or heavy cultural push are MLM is not an innocent coincidence.
