Following the events of the weekend, I managed to find a fuel station whose prices hadn't yet launched towards the International Space Station, and refuelled my car while I had the chance.

On the way back after paying-up, I walk past another man buying fuel for his own needs… filling a plastic jerry-can. 😬

That's one of the worst things one can use for petroleum/gasoline. The plastic in the casing can build up a static charge from the fuel, and in worst-case scenarios has been known to arc and even ignite any vapours the fuel may have given off.

Guys, if you need to store fuel, please ensure you're using metal jerry-cans. ⛽

Have you ever noticed there's a subtle difference in the motion of a satellite passing overhead, in comparison to an aircraft passing overhead.

A satellite has a smoother, almost flowing kind of motion – because of the fact that it's an object in perpetual free-fall, as opposed to an aircraft held aloft by aerodynamics and engine thrust. 😉

I'm not gonna lie, when the Olympic Flame was borne into the Stadio San Siro to the strains of Andrea Bocelli singing Nessun Dorma, only to be borne out again, I was worried they had not learnt from the mistake of Paris. But having just witnessed the dual lighting of the Cauldrons in Milan and Cortina d'Ampezzo, the co-hosts of the Games, this worry proved unfounded – except in the respect that the Flame was touched to the Cauldron but did not appear to directly ignite it. I'm concerned about this apparent change in direction of one of the oldest traditions of the Games, and what may be witnessed in LA, Albertville and Brisbane.

The Daytona 24 Hours has resumed after a six-and-a-half-hour Safety Car period due to overnight fog.

That may look embarrassing, but I witnessed the alternative from a Nordschliefe 24 Hours race a couple of years ago, which was stopped altogether and eventually abandoned.

Yes, the 25-kilometre circuit has its own factors to consider in race management, but at the basic level of driver and spectator safety, these are the only options available.

And the choice is basically which is the lesser of two evils.
