thinking about xie lian and yin yu again and how much they have in common and how well they understand each other and how xie lian was the one by yin yu's side as yin yu died and hugged and comforted him in his last moments

wanting to be perfect and virtuous but failing to live up to their own idealized high expectations of themselves and others' expectations of them. falling from grace. losing everything from their old lives. becoming a burnt-out, faded, even depressed version of their former glorious selves. almost giving in to resentment and bitterness in their lowest points and carrying that guilt and shame forever. they have so much in common. they get each other.
