Roxanne blanched as the letter fell from the muggle novel she was reading. Kiss Jia? Merlin, she was pretty sure the girl didn’t even like her all that much, not to mention the fact that the idea of kissing a girl in public outside of her one safe place was absolutely terrifying. Well, this was going to definitely be the actual worst thing ever. At least Jia was pretty.

“Me too. I don’t … I really don’t want to be alone at this thing. Honestly, it makes me kind of nervous. I guess that’s not very Gryffindor of me.” he said with a small sigh.

Roxy smiled at her friend. “Don’t worry about it, El. Honestly? I’d be surprised if you weren’t nervous. I kind of feel like I either want to throw up, or faint. This just doesn’t seem like a good idea, and as soon as it feels like we’ve been here long enough, I reckon we leave.”

“F-Fucking hell,” Fred choked out, practically collapsing into Roxy’s arm’s. His arms wrapped tight around her, because he couldn’t let her go, not now that he knew that she was really going to be in his corner, that he could count her on, the way he always had. “It’s all such a mess, Rox,” he sobbed, tears running unchecked down his face now, “I don’t know wh-what to do.” 

“You’re not on your own in this.” Roxy said, rubbing circles on his back. “We’ll figure it out.” She hated seeing him like this, just so broken. He was always the tough one, the one who did the protecting. It was her turn now, and she’ll be damned if she’d let anything happen to her brother. “I’ve got you, Freddie.”

“Even if I’m the one who tried to burn down the shop?” Fred whispered, unable to force the words out any louder, “Even if Molly caught me taking potions I shouldn’t have been taking? Even if I’m letting some bloke–” He cut himself off, taking a deep, shaky breath and scrubbing a hand down his face. He was startled to find that his cheeks were wet. “I need help, Roxy,” he choked out. 

Roxanne’s heart broke as she looked at her brother, looking so small and broken, not like her Freddie, the Freddie who once punched a boy twice his size when they were nine, and he called her hair ugly.  “Oh Freddie,” She pulled him into a hug, resting her head in the crook of his neck. “I’m here for you, no matter what. You’ve just got to let me help you.”

Roxanne was about to start her charms homework, when the note slipped out from the pages of Advanced Charms, and immediately she wanted to throw up. She couldn’t afford to have x tell everyone her secret, not when it would ruin everything.

“Right, first of all, I never actually tried to hide the fact that I broke it from you, because I needed you to help me blame it on Dom, like you said.” He spun around to walk backwards, so he could keep her in sight, and chewed on his bottom lip as he waged a war with himself. He slowly came to a stop. “…I’m going to tell you something, Roxanne. And you’ve got to promise me that you won’t hate me, cus I don’t think I could stand it if you hated me.” Anyone else, anyone else could hate him, but not Roxy. 

Roxanne immediately paused at his tone. Fred was serious, and she was a bit worried. "Of course I promise, I could never hate you Freddie. I promise that whatever you say, I've got your back. Always."

“It’ll be nice to have somebody to hang out with anyway. I haven’t seen Lily yet.” he said carefully. Honestly the only thing that would make this worse is if he ended up hovering on the outskirts because he couldn’t find any of his friends.

“Yeah, I’m glad I have someone to hang out with.” Rox replied. “And I have absolutely no idea where my cousin could be, sorry.” She just couldn’t get the feeling from her chest that something wasn’t right about the party. She had constant shivers down her back, and it definitely wasn’t from the cold.

Elliot sighed softly, “Me too. But we’ll just … we’ll stick together, right? And get out of there if things start going badly.” he said carefully. Of course, that was if x would allow them to. There was a lot that Elliot would do to keep his secret.

Roxy nodded. “Definitely.” She was glad that she and Elliot had each other’s back. Maybe if she stuck with him, there was no chance of her making a fool of herself and admitting her secret to anyone. That would be a disaster, and she had no idea what she’d do if it happened.

“Never fear, sister mine! There’s no party that’s going to dare start without the two of us!” Roxy was probably going to be able to see straight through his forced cheerfulness, but Freddie figured he’d give it a crack anyway. He’d spent a good portion of his childhood and teenage years hiding things from his family, he’d gotten good at it. Hence, Roxy had no idea about his summer activities beyond ‘Fred slagged around with a bunch of people’. And his attendance at this stupid party was going to assure it stayed that way. 

Roxanne raised an eyebrow. Even through her own forced excitement about the party, she could tell something was bugging her brother.  “That is true, but also did you really think that faux happiness was going to work on me, brother dearest? You couldn’t even hide that time you broke Nana Molly’s vase from me, I had to help you blame Dom. Come on, spill. What’s up? You should know I’m not exactly happy about this forbidden party either.”

This was a bad idea. There was literally nothing about this idea that could go in his favor. And yet… Scorpius was hovering around the refreshment table and staring holes through the alcohol. Bad idea. Super bad idea. He spun around to walk away, only to bump right into someone. ‘’Oh! Sorry!’’

“Sorry! That was my fault.” Roxanne replied, wincing as she tried not to spill any of her drink. “Are you okay, Scorp? You look a bit sick.” In saying that, there weren’t exactly many people at the party who didn’t look like someone in a dressed like voldemort was going to jump out at any second.

Elliot shrugged slightly at Roxanne’s words, “Well, at least we’re not going alone. I don’t know … something about this whole party in the forbidden forest thing just feels like a really bad idea to me.”

Roxanne nodded. “I know, El. I have this feeling that it’s just going to end badly, not to mention the fact that I’m not the biggest fan of the forest.” She adjusted her hair, and finally placed her wand with everything else she might need in her bag.

Roxanne would really rather not go to this party. Any time she was around both alcohol and her best friend, was a potential opportunity to spill her feelings, and probably ruin their friendship forever. As they got ready together, Rox vowed to herself that it wouldn’t happen, not tonight. She was her best friend, nothing more. “Come on, I told the others we’d meet them in the entrance hall.”

Maureen turned towards the other in surprise when she heard a voice. She hadn’t expected anyone else to join her. But the frown of surprise on her face was soon replaced by a smile. “I agree, and it would most likely boost our motivation to go to class. Maybe I’d be more excited about Ancient Runes classes if they were outside.”

“That’s exactly what I thought!” Roxanne replied, smiling at the girl. “I mean, I feel like it would definitely help me pay attention. I just prefer to be out in fresh air, I already feel like I do more homework if I’m out by the lake, like I can actually breathe for once.”

Aimee didn’t know if the Weasley’s and the Potter’s understood Aimee’s resentment towards them. She felt as if they walked around on a bubble, and everything fell perfectly in place for them. Of course, Aimee was blinded from knowing the truth, but it didn’t stop her from making snappy comments. Especially when they engaged with her “Because not everything can’t be all roses, Weasley.” Aimee shook her head.

Roxanne rolled her eyes. “Well I think it would help people work more.” She shrugged. She’d never understood Aimee’s seemingly irrational dislike of her, they’d barely interacted, and yet the girl just really seemed to hate her. Roxanne wasn’t too bothered by it, she wasn’t big on girl hate, so she wasn’t just going to hate her back for no reason.
