brow quirking upward, talia watched the other who was clearly frustrated. she could understand why. after all, the device wouldn’t shut up. once the mobile phone was chucked in her direction, the sound blared in her ears even more. “nothing to fret over, yakiri.” talia took it in her hands, observing the device carefully. there were all of four buttons on the phone, the first two did nothing except made the screen turn black. however, a button on the other side made it louder. with wide eyes, she pressed the one below it. sure enough, the sound started dwindling down. “wait, i think i did something.”

the fact there were barely any buttons to press on that thing made it all the more complicated to understand, some other things she’s been getting the hang of better but this was most definitely a challenge. leaning over, she rests her head in her hands, watching as the other analyzed it better than she did. as the sound started going down, her head perks up a little, intrigued by whatever talia just found. “i think you broke it.” she says jokingly but with a serious demeanor, before cracking up a little smile. “but, can you like, turn it off completely? i don’t think this thing ever goes to sleep.”

she’d been so distracted trying to silence her phone, she barely paid any attention to where she was going to. it’d been ringing for the past six hours or so, every five minutes. some alarm she’d somehow set up, apparently. roxy wasn’t even that old, and not everything was made out of stone back in the 70′s yet she was having the hardest time adjusting to these stupid ‘smart phones’. in a cry for help, she stops the first person walking towards, gently grabbing their arm to catch their attention. “ i’m sorry, excuse me, do you know how to shut this fucking thing off? this alarm has been going on forever, i don’t even know what it is alarming me about and i’m this close to smashing it on the ground. ”

“ certainly something, of course. i just ain’t sure what exactly, the more i think about it the more...lost i feel. y’know? ” she sighs, mostly to herself. of course she knew, girl seemed as out of place as she did. or at least she assumed so. it seemed like there was no point in trying to understand what was going on but rather just go with it. it was cruel, and unnecessary. roxanne had been spending her nights wondering if a second shot was really worth it. for some reason it seemed like the other girl had just come to the realization of her death...was that not already a given? perhaps not everybody realized it right away. she didn’t want to be insensitive about it though, “ what makes you think that? ”

brow slightly furrows for a second, the question throwing her off just a bit. she wouldn’t be as outraged as she was if she were truly high when asking for a job, since if that were to be the case then the girl’s assumption would’ve been correct. “ no? no, i’m pretty certain i was not, at the time. ” she wasn’t now either ( thought with everything happening, she might as well be ) “ and why do you think that? i’m pretty sure they didn’t hire me because they thought i was. ” roxy didn’t really want a stupid job anyway, she didn’t want to take part in any of this. looking over the girl’s features, they poke at her memory. a vaguely familiar face. “ i’m sorry, do i know you ? ”

it was impossible not to snicker, a grin tugging the corners of his mouth at the thought. she wasn’t the only one – his first week in town only seemed to consist of him asking what year it was, as if he’d somehow become an irritating knock-off marty mcfly. “ least you can brag about havin’ YEARS of experience under your belt. bosses love that. ” oh, they did. particularly when he caught himself scrawling the wrong year on his own job contract. “ dunno. everythin’s weird around here, but i think it’s always like that. ‘s nothing wrong with you. ”

now that was a possible solution to her current situation, something she hadn’t thought about. maybe it wasn’t as easy as just going up to someone and telling them about all the years of experience she had, but it was worth a shot. at least, it was better than getting to the specifics of it all. “you know, you’re right, i should try that. after all they’re always looking for young people but with years of experience.” technically she didn’t exactly fit in the young category, as somebody born in the 50′s could be hardly considered young, but then again...not that anybody would take her seriously if she were to tell them her birthdate. “truly, at first i thought this was some sort of very elaborated prank, now i don’t know what to make of it.”

a soft grin pulls at her lips the moment the words ‘that stuff’ are said, just the way it’s said accompanied by the choice of words is enough to take her back to her late teenage years, everybody in her year getting high like it was the law and her mother echoing in the back of her mind ‘ don’t you there get anywhere near that stuff ’ & just like that her amused grin turns into a melancholic one. “ maybe. honestly, i was kind of thinking that, just tryna make some logic out of this whole bloody mess. but the more i think about it, the further away i am from finding a sensible answer. each day i’m convinced i wish to take no part in this...this, whatever this is. ”

“Nineteen seventy five?,” Vince murmured. He did what he’d always done lately, mentally calculated how far that’d been from him when he was…well, where he was meant to be. Thirty one years after his death. Technically, she was from the future. He didn’t fathom ever getting to see the seventies, much less the year they were currently living in. He still hadn’t adjusted. Every day, he woke up feeling and thinking it was the 40s. Only when he stepped outside did the illusion wear off. Vince made himself get out of bed, one day at a time. Made himself walk around, talk to people, embrace reality. If he wasn’t such a fucking miscreant, he’d wonder if this was heaven. But he hadn’t been that lucky in life. “Try being me and your only experience is bootlegging.”

“mhm,” humming softly, nodding her head gently just once. for a second wondering if he was just another normal man as confused by her words as the girl she’d just begged for a job to was. she quickly tried to think of something else to say to make this sound less... insane, but her thoughts are interrupted by what she assumed was him trying to make it sound like he could relate to her current situation. a relieved small smile barely tugs at her lips. glad to find someone else struggling to adjust, that and the fact that his experience would be practically useless now. “bootlegging? i suppose you could become a drug lord now or something.”
