“I can’t blame them either. As much as I love my home, the castle can be suffocating at times. But it does get us into trouble when they end up in certain situations.” He smiles warmly back at her, resting his hand over hers. “You look beautiful, Davina. But you look beautiful in anything. You could probably wear a potato sack and still be breath-taking,” he murmured in reply. He knew all too well how women could be; especially those with this lifestyle. They had to look perfect, all the time, and while he appreciated Davina’s effort to look nice, he didn’t want her to think that’s all he liked about her. He tore his gaze away from her to look around them, taking in the sights of the festival lights, smiling softly. “It is. It’s funny, I’ve never come to this festival before, even though they have it every year.”
Davina crinkled her nose at the idea of wearing a potato sack. “As nice of a compliment as that was, I think I’ll stick with dresses and normal clothes.” Growing up, she always felt like she was the less attractive between her and Phoebe, but she never really let it get to her. She loved her sister too much to be jealous of her. Everything Phoebe had was well deserved and she was nothing but supportive of her. Even if she was still a bit hurt by the turn of events with Phoebe and Ian’s wedding. “Really? I would come every year if I could. I love festivals of any kind, honestly. Even though I’m not the biggest fan of crowds.” She shrugged. “Let’s start this off right! We have to have some apple cider.” She pulled him over where the line of people waiting for drinks was. “So, tell me more about yourself. I know you like to run, you have been working for the Conroy’s for a long time, you have a sister, work all the time. That’s about all I know.”
phoebeconrcy:
–I’m just about ready to write an op-ed for the Times. No, it wasn’t a shotgun wedding. No, I’m not pregnant. Jesus Christ.
Yeah, the reporters suck. I guess they figure that’s the reason for such a spontaneous wedding.

As Davina looped her arm through his, Eli smiled, pulling her closer as they walked through the crowds of people taking part in the festivities. It was silent between them for a moment– until Davina turned to him, asking about work. He smiled, giving a slight shrug as they continued walking in unison. “It was good. It wasn’t particularly eventful, but in my case, that’s a good thing. Eventful usually means something bad, unfortunately. Unless a prince or princess sneaks out of the castle without letting anyone know, which does cause a bit of a stir.” With a family full of rebellious royals, it was something that occurred often; they’d all snuck out at one time or another– a couple of them more frequently. But they’d always been found, safe and sound, thankfully. Pushing away thoughts of work, he peered down at Davina, following as she led him around. “And how was your day? Did you do anything fun?”
“That has to be really stressful. I can’t imagine having your job; I’d be a worrywart every single day, especially with them liking to run off. Not that I blame them. I can’t imagine I wouldn’t be doing that if I were in their shoes. --I’m glad it was uneventful, though.” Davina smiled up at him, warmly. She thought back to the conversation she had with Alaska about her sister and felt a pang in her chest, but didn’t show it. She would worry about all of that after the date. “No, nothing really fun,” she admitted with a shrug of her shoulders. “I spent time with Amanda before her date, and then spent the rest of the time getting ready. You know how us girls are, we have to try on everything we own at least twice before picking the first thing we put on--had to make sure I looked good for tonight.” Her smile lit up her whole face, making her eyes sparkle beneath the lights. As they entered the center of the festival, she began showing a childlike amazement at all of the lights and decorations. Christmas really was her favorite time of the year and it just took her breath away. “I love this time of the year. It’s so magical.”

Elijah was usually cool, calm and collected– at least, he was good at appearing so, but after arranging for his date with Davina, he was suddenly very nervous. He tried to go about his day as normal, but the ticking clock was taunting him, a constant reminder of what was to come. Fortunately, he was able to get off early– he never missed a day, and it was rare that he took vacations or days off, so his boss had no problem giving him the rest of the day off. He headed to his quarters to wash the day off, wanting to look presentable– not fancy or anything, but nice. It was his first date in a really long while, after all.
Once he was dressed and clean shaven, he made his way to the great hall to wait for Davina to show up, nervously pacing as he took in deep breaths, reminding himself that it was just a date. When he saw her, though, he cleared his throat, quickly smiling up at her as she descended the stairs. “–Absolutely. Let’s get out of here.”
Davina noticed what seemed like nerves coming from him, and it made her a bit more comfortable. She wasn’t the only one nervous. It was nice. She grabbed her coat and headed out the door. Once they were both outside, she snaked her arm through his and began directing him towards the festivities. The cool air was definitely making her feel a bit more in the spirit, which she was thankful for.
Shyly, she glanced up at him. “How was work today? Anything exciting happen?” She hadn’t been on a date in... well, she didn’t know if she had ever really been on a date before. She’d been out with a guy before, sure, but it never felt like a date to her. Just... weird. This didn’t. It felt comfortable even with her nerves.

davina: merry Christmas Eve, Phoebe.
Dalijah
It was almost Christmas and Davina was feeling anything but in the mood. With her sister still in Paris and now married suddenly, she was just not in a festive mental state. Of course, she didn’t let that keep her down. She wanted that date with Elijah, and by golly, if she had to make herself the jolliest asshole this side of the nuthouse, she was going to do it.
She threw on a red dress with green hem around it, and finished getting ready. As she did so, she was humming Christmas carols to herself. She wasn’t going to let anything ruin this night. Not her feelings about her sister, or worrying about Amanda while she was with Miles. Davina was just going to allow herself to think about her for once, and Eli.
When she was finally done, she ran down the hallway, stopping as soon as she got to the stairs. She wasn’t going to allow herself to appear too eager, even if she was screaming on the inside. She smiled when she saw Eli already down there. She could feel her cheeks beginning to betray her already, but she didn’t care. “Are you ready to get your caroling on?”

are you fucking kidding me?
alaskatheduchess:
Relationships with our siblings are always evolving, apparently. Maybe you’re not as close right now, maybe there’s some things she’s kept from you, but you’ll come back to where you were before. Maybe things are just different now, because Ian.
It sucks, doesn’t it? How life changes people. And loss is inevitable in one sense or another.
are you fucking kidding me?
alaskatheduchess:
Maybe she was trying to avoid the embarrassment. Ian was being a bit stubborn about them. Maybe she thought she was going to be rejected, or something. But I get it. That saying, about secrets keeping people close? It’s bullshit. –I’d confront her when she gets back. Let her know that she hurts you when she isn’t honest with you, or keeps things from you intentionally. I doubt she does it purposefully– I don’t know her well enough, but she doesn’t seem to do anything with malice behind it.
Yeah, I suppose so. I mean, about the confronting her. I know she doesn’t do things maliciously. It’s not that kind of hurt, just the not being as close as we once were or that I thought we were kind of hurt.
are you fucking kidding me?
alaskatheduchess:
You’re probably right.
So, tell her that.
I did before, she said there wasn’t anything to tell until right then. But when you know something is going on and get told you’re wrong only to find you were onto something to begin with... I don’t know. It’s frustrating. I hate secrets. And she’s all I have. I mean, we have our parents, but I’m not really close to them. She’s my best friend.
are you fucking kidding me?
alaskatheduchess:
You’re feeling especially vengeful, aren’t you?
No, just pointing out, it would be a reward to them. I love my sister, I just wish she would tell me things.
are you fucking kidding me?
alaskatheduchess:
No idea. Back them up in public, obviously. Here though, I might send them to the dungeons for a year. Happy honeymoon.
You should separate them so they can’t make the most of it. Actually punish them and not give them privacy.
are you fucking kidding me?
alaskatheduchess:
I guess they were both pretty good at hiding it. She was engaged to Will, after all. Doesn’t excuse that they just got fucking married without telling anyone about it.
What are you going to do?
are you fucking kidding me?
alaskatheduchess:
I’m guessing your sister didn’t let you know either.
No, but I didn’t even know she had feelings for Ian until she was going after him. So I shouldn’t be surprised, I guess.
are you fucking kidding me?
alaskatheduchess:
I didn’t realize this had to be said, but if any of you assholes are planning on getting married, I would really appreciate a heads-up so I can know what the fuck to say when I’m asked about it in front of hundreds of people who apparently know more about my younger brother than I do!
I don’t blame you for being upset.
missamandagray:
Okay.
I don’t think it’s a good idea to leave it up to me. So you make the plans, and we’ll do it.
Why don’t we go for a walk around the castle? They’re decorated, too. And that way you get out, but not far from the castle. Best of both worlds.
elidonahue:
Agreed.
It’s new for me, too, to be honest. –So, Christmas lights, hot chocolate…. what else are we doing for our date, or are you planning on having me home by 9pm?
Don’t forget my off-key singing. I wasn’t planning on planning the whole night, but just seeing what happens naturally. And it’s that time of the year when it gets dark around 5, so you might be too exhausted to walk anymore by 9. --I heard it might snow tonight so that’ll add to the festive feeling. Maybe you can show me that ice rink you told me about.
