Miles groaned as she called him ‘majesty’ even though he didn’t hate what he was or who he was, he sometimes would get very annoyed by being called that instead of his name. He let it roll off his back and began leading the way, staying only one step ahead of her. “I came out here a lot over the years; it was nice to just get away from the craziness. And not even my siblings know this place exists, if you can believe that. I’d come back home and they’d ask me where I was, to which I would reply with ‘the woods’ and they would just laugh. I suppose it would be rather silly of an idea, but I enjoy the peace and quiet.” He fell silent, looking around at the trees, embracing the silence. “I did show one other person, Ava.” He still sometimes found it hard to talk about her, but he knew he needed to. “Ava was the only girl I ever really cared about. I was in love with her. I wanted to marry her. Especially after I found out we were going to have a baby, but unfortunately, it never worked out.” He stuffed his hands in his pockets, letting his head drop to stare at the ground. “She passed away right after having our daughter.”
Amanda followed close behind Miles-- not wanting to fall behind and hold him back, and also because she wanted to stay close to him and listen while he spoke. "It’s not silly,” she replied as she stared down at the ground, trying her best not to trip or make a fool of herself. As they came to a stop, she took a deep breath, looking up around them, taking in the sight of nature around them. It was breath-taking. And quiet. So quiet and peaceful. She understood why it was his favorite place. As he spoke again, she brought her gaze back to him, raising her brow. She’d never expected him to reveal such private information-- she was speechless for a long moment, not sure what to say to him. She wasn’t sure how long ago it had happened, but it obviously still hurt him. “I’m so sorry... That’s.... I can’t even imagine how hard that was.” And he had a daughter. She was shocked by the information, still unsure of how to approach the subject. Again she was quiet, before stepping towards him, resting a hand on his arm. “So you have a daughter.” She gave him an encouraging smile. “How old is she? What’s her name?”

You couldn’t be more right. –Real talk, though. Wouldn’t a little baby running around be adorable? I don’t know if I’m ready for that yet, but I want it.
So adorable. I’m excited about Prince William and Amber having twins, and I’m not even related to the babies, so you can imagine how I’ll be when it’s your turn one day.

–I’m just about ready to write an op-ed for the Times. No, it wasn’t a shotgun wedding. No, I’m not pregnant. Jesus Christ.
Even if you are pregnant and decided to get married, it’s not anyone’s business. I’d love to be an aunt, though, just saying.

Miles shook his head at her curtsy. He hated that from anyone, but tolerated it from people he didn’t know well. It felt so weird seeing her doing it. Made him feel as though they really weren’t equals, at least in her eyes. He actually saw her as a much better person, but didn’t want to go down that road just yet. He half smiled, feeling a bit of his confidence–or maybe it was just hopefulness–disappear. He shut the door once she was in and slid in the driver’s seat. “I didn’t say.” Without another word, he hit the gas and left the castle behind them in a cloud of dust.
Once away from the castle, he slowed down a bit, though he was still going faster than the speed limit. The road was deserted and wrapped around a mountain. He glanced over at her once, but kept his eyes on the road the rest of the time. He maybe a speed demon, but he didn’t have a death wish. “I hope you enjoy it. It’s somewhere very special to me. The place I go when I need to do some thinking.”
When his car finally came to a stop, he hopped out and opened the door for her, offering her his hand. It was a little gravel parking lot around a lot of open fields with woods off to the side. “We need to walk the rest of the way.” He gestured to the woods. “My baby gets me a lot of places, but she can’t handle the woods.” He looked over at her. “It’s not terribly far. About a mile.”
Amanda, caught off guard by the sudden speed in which the car took off, immediately grasped the car handle to feel more secure, but after a moment, her hand fell back onto her lap, feeling safer than she’d ever felt with just about anyone-- plus, Miles seemed to slow down a bit. She was curious to know where they were going, especially as he began talking about it. She was honored he was taking her to somewhere so special. It was a bit nerve-wracking too; she didn’t want to somehow taint his love for a place he obviously held very dear to his heart. But she pushed past the insecurities in her head, smiling gently. “I’m honored you want to take me there.” And of course I’ll love it, she wanted to say, but she stopped before the words could slip from her mouth. She sighed in frustration with herself, looking out the window and staying quiet for the rest of the ride. She was relieved when the car finally came to a stop, but only felt more nervous as he came around and helped her out of the car, stepping carefully in the gravel. She was glad she’d slipped on a pair of boots to combat against the cold weather-- plus, she wasn’t sure she’d be able to walk around in the woods in a pair of high heels. “I don’t mind a walk. I did enjoy the car ride-- but I could use the fresh air,” she replied, stepping further away from the car, the gravel and fallen leaves beneath her boots crunching-- a sound she found extremely satisfying. “Lead the way, your Majesty.”

Miles took his sister’s advice and decided to take Amanda away from the castle and give her some distraction. He hadn’t talked to her much since she came back, for fear of suffocating her while she sorted things out in her head. But Alaska was right and that was a dangerous thing when left alone for too long. He kept his distance, but made sure to keep his eye on her.
He was leaning against his car (Vanquish), waiting for Amanda to make her way out. He had the whole night planned out and wouldn’t take no for an answer. It was a date, but not romantically. Just where they could be in each other’s company and get to know each other better. Part of him was worried about telling her about Zoey. Zoey didn’t even know about Zoey. He wasn’t ready to have that conversation, yet, but if he ever wanted something to happen between him and Amanda, she needed to know.
When he heard someone approaching, he stood up and smiled, bowing as he opened the passenger side door. “You are looking beautiful today.” He wasn’t flirting with her, just being his normal self and he always loved to compliment people. Hoping to get a genuine smile in response.

Amanda had been spending a little too much time alone; if she wasn’t in her bedroom, she was on the grounds, taking long walks in the garden, and even into the forest behind the castle. It was nice to get away from the cheeriness of the place, as Christmas approached and decorations were set up in preparation for the holiday. She usually loved Christmas, but her heart wasn’t in it this year. She was still shaken up after the kidnapping ordeal she, Sarah and Zoey had been through, and even though she hadn’t been physically hurt, part of her felt broken, like she’d lost her innocence. The world had changed in those couple of weeks she’d spent in that dark room, and she didn’t think she’d ever be able to look at it the same way again.
She’d been hesitant when Miles invited her out-- she’d politely refused at first, but he’d managed to convince her, though it wasn’t hard once she found out he was going to be taking her out of the castle. She hadn’t been out in forever, it felt like, and decided maybe it was what she needed in order to lift her spirits back up. She was nervous about being around Miles, since they had kissed when he’d come for them, but hadn’t spoken much since. He kept his distance, and though she liked his company, she was grateful that he hadn’t pushed his presence upon her in the last few weeks. She was sure she would’ve said something or done something she regretted, and even though she wasn’t sure where they stood after that kiss, didn’t want to lose him as a friend.
As she approached Miles, she kept her eyes down, only looking up when he spoke to her, curtsying before him as was customary to do in front of a royal-- even if he insisted on being informal, but after so much time without talking, she didn’t feel right just saying hello. “Thank you. You look very handsome,” she murmured softly, eyes looking him over with fondness. “Where are we going, I don’t think you mentioned it.” She moved past him, climbing into the passenger seat as he held the door open for her.

As the beeping that had become his lullaby lately began to beat louder, Miles began to get alarmed. He wasn’t sure of what to do, knowing telling someone to calm down never did anything. “I’m not even sure - maybe 10 hours or so. Getting rest that you need.” His stomach knotted as he watched her, hating seeing her all hooked up to the machines. “I, uh, yeah. Hang on.” Miles ran out of the room and when he returned he was with a nurse. She began looking over Amanda’s vitals and checking the IV. He stepped to the side and grabbed half of the sandwich he bought while she had visitors. He placed it on the tray and moved it closer to her, not wanting to get in the way of the nurse. He pulled the chair up on the other side of her and sat down, watching intently with what the nurse was doing.
“Oh.” She felt like she could sleep for another three days, at least. She watched him leave the room, her heart racing, wanting him to come back and stay near her, even if Zoey and Sarah were in the room with her. She breathed out a quiet sigh of relief when he came back in, a nurse following behind him. “I feel fine,” she repeated, snapping at the nurse-- not meaning to sound so crabby and rude-- she just wanted to be free of the needle in her skin, and not be surrounded by a bunch of machines making her feel like she was about to die. Her eyes softened when Miles pushed a sandwich over to her, blinking away tears as she looked down at her blanket, not wanting him to see her get all emotional over a sandwich. “Thank you.” She winced as the nurse finally pulled the IV out-- a little rougher than necessary, she thought, but she was grateful to have it out. She watched the woman go, before reaching for the sandwich, taking a big bite-- not even caring what kind it was, she just wanted to put something in her stomach. She took another big bite, when she realized Miles was still there, sitting right at her bedside, watching her scarf down food. Blushing, she carefully set the half eaten sandwich down, chewing slowly and a little less aggressively.

You just have to trust me. Everything, you, everyone, it’s all going to be okay.
Whatever you want to do. It’s all up to you.
Okay.
I don’t think it’s a good idea to leave it up to me. So you make the plans, and we’ll do it.
royal-davinac:
I’m sorry that happened to you. I’m glad it wasn’t worse, but that’s bad enough. And they’re not going to get to lay another finger on you. Don’t worry about that. –Beat’s me. He talks to me. Makes me ramble on like some weirdo.
I missed you so much.
I hope not. --Well, he must really like you then. You’re a beautiful weirdo, though, which I’m sure he agrees with.
If you want to go see lights, we can go. I think it’s better if I’m not cooped up in my room.

Miles never left Amanda’s side; even as she slept, he stayed right beside her, only leaving when Phoebe and Davina visited her. He had barely slept since the day they found her, not wanting to risk being asleep when she woke up. When he heard her starting to stir, he jumped up and ran to her bedside. “You were dehydrated and they wanted to do tests to make sure you were okay.” He frowned, hating seeing her hooked up to all of the machines and everything. “Be careful, don’t hurt yourself. You have an IV in your arm and those are super painful if you move the needle. You need your rest. Do you need anything?”
Miles’ presence near her immediately calmed Amanda down; sure, her heart was suddenly racing, nervous at the sight of him, but she was safe with him. Even if they were in an unfamiliar room she’d never seen before. “How long have I been out?” She asked, looking to the IV in arm, brow furrowing as she inspected it, wanting to take it out despite his warning; she was uncomfortable, she wanted to walk and move, after being pretty much stuck in the dark for two weeks. “I need to get out of here. --And food. I’m starving.” Despite her need to leave, she hadn’t moved an inch, not wanting to alarm Miles. “Can you ask them to take it out? I feel fine. My body just hurts.”
royal-davinac:
Joke is on them; the castle wasn’t just looking for Sarah or Zoey, they were looking for you. If you had been the only one, the same amount of search parties would’ve been sent out. Miles would’ve turned the world upside down to get you home–not to mention Phoebe and myself. What did they do to you? –I have a date with Eli. Other than that, just happy to have my other sister safe and sound.
Nothing. Mostly just kept us in that dark room. Sometimes had us come out and sit there while they talked, joking about how they’d find a way to make money off of me. They only started to get more aggressive, I think, when they knew they were going to be found. Not aggressive, that’s not the right word. Maybe... frantic. Asking a lot of questions, making threats. No useful information, I guess, because then it got quiet and Miles showed up not too long after. I guess we weren’t worth getting killed over. For now, at least. --A date? That’s.... I’m really happy for you, Davina. He must be special. He’s so quiet though, how do you get him to talk?
I’m happy to be back too. I missed you.
royal-davinac:
You’re not overthinking. We’re all messed up, some more than others, but you can’t be fine this soon after. Nobody is. –Uh, not really all that much.
They thought I was Tristan, when they took me. So I guess it’s kind of a blessing it was me they took instead. They were pissed when they found out I’m not worth anything. --No?
royal-davinac:
It could have, yes. But just because it could have been worse doesn’t take away from how bad it was. Give yourself time, Manda. I wouldn’t expect you to be your normal self. That’d be weird. You’re going to be okay, you just have to heal some. Let yourself.
I’m probably just overthinking everything. I’ll be fine. --Anyway, what’s going on with you?
royal-davinac:
You went through a lot, Amanda. It’s okay to take time to heal and it’s okay to be in a funk. Don’t try to push yourself. Please?
I didn’t die, though. It could’ve been a lot worse, and yet, it feels like some part of me is broken.
