Regarding NSFW Tags

Something I have noticed is people seem to be under the impression that NSFW means X-rated or something along those lines. That’s not really what it means.

NSFW does not just mean X-rated, pornographic, ect.

It doesn’t even necassarily mean only sexual content.

By deliberately not tagging things ‘NSFW’ you are not making any kind of social stand.

NSFW stands for ‘Not Safe For Work’, that’s literally all it is. It is warning those at work that they could get in trouble for looking at that content at work.

It also allows people to blacklist that tag so that it doesn’t show up on their dash.

It also helps those with children who don’t want their little kids looking at such things.

That way, they can still follow you but not have to worry about something popping up on their dash and cause them to get fired, or risk having their little kids see things that are inappropriate for their age.

NSFW could be gore, swearing, nudity, sex.

I could use some help with the WoW timeline. If my blood elf character was a child when Arthas attacked Eversong/Silvermoon then how old would she be now?

I am, unfortunately, not very good with these sorts of things.  But maybe my followers can help?

Do any of you guys know? Or could you at least boost this to find someone who does to help this RPer out?

How To Be a Good RP Partner

Do:

Respect the fact that your RP partner has a life outside of RP. Work, family, friends, children, medical issues, school, or even just other hobbies/TV shows/other games. Respect any of it. If you don’t, they’ll likely become stressed, annoyed, or burnt out.

Show that you appreciate them. You can do this by: sending them messages, expressing your excitement about your story with them, share ideas with them, or even just flat out tell them.

Respect their boundaries. Some people don’t like to discuss OOC things with their RP partners. This doesn’t mean they don’t like you as a person or that they don’t want to be friends within the RP world. They just might be a private person.

Send them prompts/memes/asks that they reblog. It shows that you’re invested in the story and learning more about their character and it helps keep the RP going even in little ways. Just because you RP with them regularly doesn’t mean you can’t send them things on tumblr.

Communicate! This is something that we see talked about a lot but it’s surprising how often it isn’t really done.  If you have a problem with how something is going, tell them. If you feel like something is wrong, ask them! It doesn’t do either person any good if things aren’t talked about.

If your partner comes to you with something they feel is wrong or they have a question, ect. Be honest!

Don’t:

Harbor resentment about something until you blow up on your partner.

Do something or push for something that they have already told you that they are not comfortable with.

Try to change their character.

Discourage them from RPing with others.

Guilt them for not RPing with you.

Take them for granted.

Keep them as a “trophy” once you have them and then rarely RP with them after that, stringing them along.

Lie to them. About anything.

Thank you for making this blog! There's this canon character I really want to rp as, but someone on here already made an account for them. Their blog is also so much better than anything I could do, so I don't know why anyone would rp with me over them. Should I just go for it or should I give up? And do you have any other advice for rping a character who is already being portrayed?

I say go for it!  RPing is all about having fun and you should feel comfortable to RP anything that you want to. RP communities are pretty big on tumblr and in my opinion, there’s more than enough room for multiples of canon characters. Many times original characters have have multiples of similar types of characters anyway, so why not?

As for RPing a character who is already being portrayed, I’d say that if you want to stand out a bit from the other person then maybe look for extra details you could incorporate into your writing. Often times, I find it’s the subtle details that catch people’s attention.

In any type of character, portrayal is more important than how a blog looks. But there are many pre-made templates that you can use that look nice and are simple to put together. If you just google ‘free tumblr themes’, you can find all sorts of styles to choose from. And if you get stuck using those, you could ask for a friend to help!

The most important thing about RP is having fun so don’t hold yourself back!
