âYou got it, boss,â Julian mused with a smile. He hooked his thumb toward the coffee shop, then turned in that direction, beckoning Rose to follow. âIâm Julian, by the way.âÂ
The walk to the coffee shop was short, as it was just at the corner, and once they got inside, the scent of coffees and cakes swirled around them. Julian took a deep breath and exhaled slowly. âMannn, I could just eat this entire place. What are your thoughts on pumpkin spice latte? Does it make me basic as hell to really want one right now?â
The brunette smiled, quick to then express surprise when she realized they hadnât exchanged names. She brings her hand up for a tiny wave, chuckling. âRose!â She answers, lips spreading into a wide grin, eyes curving with it. As they walk in, the scents infiltrate Roseâs nose canals like a fat kid in a candy factory. She loved food, even when she wasnât hungry. She laughs at his question, pulling back slightly for dramatic effect. âI love PSLâs, so I totally take offense to that.â She adds another fit of chuckles, motioning back beside him soon after. âSo, definitely make that two--- and Iâll go ahead and grab myself a bagel on the side because I simply canât resist the carbs.â

Maverick rocked back and forth on his heels, letting out a sigh, âYeah I canât â I canât remember. I donât know. Sometimes I forget things.â
âAlright...,â she chuckles with a perplexed brow. Although Rose was always open to helping out people, strangers even, she couldnât help but have her guard up. After all, she was slightly paranoid. âYou got money on you? If you canât find your place I can help you to a motel?â
millie-harperâ:
Millie had to laugh at that mental image, a group of kids starting an elaborate scheme just to watch a woman run after a bag. âSorry, it isnât funny but picturing these kids coming up with something like that was just amusing to me.â Looking at the woman beside her, Millie motioned with her hand for her to follow after her. âCome on, thereâs a coffee shop I love right around the corner. Iâll buy you a coffee and you can pretend that you may or may not have been conned by kids.â
âNo, laugh. Itâs funny, itâs always funny when itâs at my demise,â she gives in, lips pushing together into a thin line. Rose always had a weird sense of humor--- if it wasnât cruel, there wasnât a single thing that she didnât find funny. At her offer, the tired brunette smiles softly at the act of kindness, tilting her head to the side with a bashful look. âI think many would decline, especially if it was out of pity, but not me. I definitely am desperate to pretend like none of this ever happened.â

Following his relationship with Harper, he hadnât put much thought into the idea of dating again. While heâd had the chance to process and start moving himself along, it became hard to think of someone new. Really it was hard to think of much at all considering the direction life had taken him and his siblings. Even after the worst of it was over and the fear had washed out of him, his lack of a âlove lifeâ hadnât come to mind until people in his life started pointing it out. Conversations which soon enough ended with old dating apps being downloaded back onto his phone. With them the reminder that for all his confidence nerves were for everyone. A thought Tristan repeated to himself as some form of reassurance while he waited for her arrival. Heâd been excited about the date before walking into the barâhaving planned it out days beforeâit was only a matter of getting himself back into that mindset. And sooner would be best, he thought, noticing her presence by the door. âRose?â His voice comes lightly, so as not to startle her. âHey, glad you found the place.â Taking in her appearance, he offers a smile, sincere in the compliment that follows. âYou look really nice.â
His voice brought a shiver down her spine, mostly because she had already planned to ditch him when she noticed how much younger he was. There was something traumatizing about their age difference--- it reminded Rose all too much of her fatherâs scandal a couple of years ago. Still, there wasnât a bad bone in her body (at least, intentionally). So, she turned with a nervous grin, waving her hand awkwardly. âTristan!â She greets, chuckling. âYeah! Thank goodness I opted for a taxi rather than trying to get here on my own, right? Parking these days are a nightmare.â After getting a good look at him, Rose had to admit he wasnât bad to look at. If she were younger, there wouldnât have been a second thought. âOh, thanks,â she replies, genuinely appreciative of the compliment. Rose hardly ever got good feedback when it came to her appearance--- mostly because she was too tired to put in some actual effort. âYou are... not too bad yourself!â She adds, hoping it came out as smoothly as she intended. âSorry I was, like... lingering around the exit--- I mean, entrance. I got nervous and wanted a fresh of breath air.â She then waves her hand, chuckling again. â---I mean, a breath of fresh air.â

Cursing to herself when Eleanor watched the bag fall to the floor, she winced and started to help the brunette with her bag, making sure that nothing was getting away from her. Helping the girl with her bag, Eleanor gave her a sheepish look and stood up. âAre you sure? I didnât break anything, did I?â she asked nervously before rubbing her eyes and stifling a yawn. âDisoriented?â Eleanor asked with worry and furrowed her brows. âAre you okay? Are you feeling anything? Do you need to sit down?â
Rose couldnât help but chuckle at her nervous question, shaking her head with a grin. âItâd take a lot more than a little run in to break something--- me, or the stuff I got,â she reassures her. âNo, Iâm fine. Just, long hours of my eyes glued to a screen and a hunched-ish back, nothing a good nap and some late night snacking couldnât cure.â After settling her belongings, she wants to ask again how the other is, gesturing her way. âYouâre okay though, right?â

Brody came to a sudden halt as someone nearly walked into him, a frown forming on his forehead as his eyes fell on the girl standing in front of him. She seemed out of breath, as if sheâd been chasing something or someone. Her words only confirmed that assumption. âI⊠havenât, actually. Sorry. Iâm guessing youâre looking for a kid with a purse?â
â---Yeah,â she breathes heavily, desperately attempting to keep her shit together. Thereâs truly nothing more embarrassing than being more out of breath than usual to a complete stranger. âHe shoved me in order to grab this ladyâs purse and I just ran on instinct--- even though Iâm not so sure I could exactly get it back,â she chuckles awkwardly.Â

Anyone who knew Noel knew that time was truly a social construct for them. Their schedule was usually all over the place and there was a reason they made sure they were in constant contact with their team. Their assistant had just started to get them to adhere to an actual calendar, though they would swear by their internal calendar, that their memory was sharper than ever. It was why they could remember all the Tuesdays when the Tacorina truck would show up. It also helped that they had built a pretty decent relationship with the owners and they had made sure to teach Noel how to get the alerts for the truck on their phone. But it was easy enough to commit to every Tuesday, usually strolling through in the middle of the day, fresh from a nap after staying up late working. It was why they never felt any shame of the usual Pacifico beer that accompanied their tacos. âMake mine extra spicy today, jefe, Iâm trying to clear my sinuses here,â they joked as they pulled their wallet out of their pocket, eyebrow raising when someone approached them. âHi,â they replied with a soft laugh, an easy smile spreading on their face as the woman explained herself. âI noticed you too,â they said as they handed a bill to the person at the truck, eyes still on Rose. âIâm glad to know someone else has the level of commitment I have to these tacos, it may be the only commitment Iâm able to hold up,â they joked, before holding out their hand. âNice to meet you Rose, Iâm Noel.â They grabbed their beer and took a long sip before pointing at a nearby table. âYou want to join me for lunch today? Fair warning, Iâm a talker so if youâre not looking for a conversation you may want to decline my invitation,â they said with a soft laugh, backing up towards the table as they kept their eyes on Rose and waited for her answer. âIf you do sit with me though, I need to know what your favorite movie is first.â
Rose laughed loudly, finding their statement to be all too relatable. âOh, I can definitely attest to that,â she nods. At their offer, the brunette raises her brows with a sure grin, nodding immediately. âYeah, why not? Itâs better than my usual sidewalk choice.â Rose follows Noel to the table but pauses when they propose a condition, one that caused her to ponder for a minute. â---Man, I canât pick just one. I love movies, itâs almost a crime to have a favorite.â Still, Rose is determined to give them an answer, continuing to ponder after she places her own plate and water bottle on the table. âI guess the first thing that comes to mind is the Lord of the Rings movies? I grew up on them, so they hold a special place in my heart.â She then takes a seat proudly, gesturing towards Noel. âAnd you? ---Oh, and throw in your favorite book too,â she grins mischievously.Â

âAnd here I was thinking she was hitting on me.â He pretended to be offended. âWell, I have to admit the thought of looking ordinary does wound my ego,â he said with a chuckle. âOh wow! Thatâs worse than being ordinary. Did you tell them something?â
"She couldâve,â she smiles with a perked brow, nodding. âNothing except for âhave a nice dayâ, really. Iâm not very confrontational, so... I kinda just take it. Donât feel sorry for me though, Iâm used to that sorta thing. It doesnât really bother me anymore.â
