Burkitt Lymphoma is a cancer of the lymphatic system.

Pathology shows small cells with round nuclei, coarse chromatin, multiple nucleoli, and frequent mitosis. Macrophages are plump from ingesting many cells and are in abundance within the tumor giving “starry sky” appearance.

Reciprocal translocation places c-MYC gene (encodes TF) from Ch. 8 under the control of Ig heavy chain promoters/enhancers on Ch. 14. Myc protein is involved in cell proliferation. Excess Myc protein causes unregulated overproduction and overexpression of lymphoid cells.
