Being a Batman fan and living in Edinburgh is so fun...the gothic architecture + narrow winding staircases (these things are so cool but they are HELL to walk, trust) + bad weather + long winter nights, it's just so atmospheric! As far as capitals go it's pretty small and safe enough that I'd feel comfortable walking around at night, so it's not very similar to Gotham in that way...but the STYLE of it!! It could easily be an earlier Gotham! Maybe if you combined it with Glasgow, stirred the pot, then blew it up to the size of London you'd get an irl Gotham...and then ship it over to America lol
