The three little baby sperels arrived just in time for Christmas! They all have slightly different personalities, though all of them seemed equally uncertain about the Holliday decor around the house. The rest of their flock probably won’t arrive until March, so between now and then I’ll be sure to post plenty pics of these 3 to show how they’re adapting to their new (happy?) lives.

OK, so right now, it’s looking like our first convention for 2015 will be… [cue trumpet fanfare sound effect and… PLAY!]

Yes! SAKURA-CON!

Sakura-Con was the sperels’ very first convention ever (as well as their definite favorite thus far), and they couldn’t be more excited to return! As long as the baby sperels arrive in time for the event, we shall all be there with big giant smiles. Oh, and wings - yes! - let’s all wear wings :)

Here’s a little post-DesignerCon photo montage for all who couldn’t attend the event in person. Needless to say, these photos capture only a very very very very VERY small portion of all the amazing sights from this past weekend, so do run a search on the #designercon tag to see more if you weren’t there to witness it all firsthand.

As for the sperels’ experience of the event, they had a fantastic time, with highlights including: early Sunday morning martial arts training with Hyperactive Monkey's Great Grand Master; a visit from the incredibly chill @AlbertBabyCat, followed shortly thereafter by a visit from @theurbanraptor and his All-Terrain Walking Boom Box (AKA the AT-BT); having a full 10' x 10' booth for the first time, and, partly for that reason, having my brother join in on the fun for the first time as well; finally getting to meet @spankystokes and the gigantic Stroll at his booth; and - aside from reconnecting with just a handful of friends who were either attending or exhibiting at the event - most attendees at DesignerCon had never ever seen the sperels before so it was great to make so many new friends and fans!

And of course it wouldn’t have been ‘Designer’Con without all the great designers! The sperels were excited to meet and hang out with a mummified Flat Bonnie and friends, and also excited to meet (but a bit too intimidated to hang out with) Old Beetaronomy and a Beetling, created by Scott Tolleson and Lana Crooks.

We forgot to get the names of those cute little woodland creatures you see in photo #6, so if anyone knows, please tell us whom we should credit.

For DesignerCon, the sperels wanted their table display to convey the drudgery of their oppression, so we brought little mining carts for the buttons, and decorated the table surface to resemble a factory environment. Now let’s see if one of these sperels can escape the table to go fly around and enjoy some of the other amazing booths at DesignerCon :)

This is Chester. When I was in Afghanistan I got a care package from one of those “Adopt a Soldier” programs that lets families send care packages to service men and women who are deployed overseas. Anyway, I got this care package, and it came with the usual stuff: Baby wipes, crackers, peanut butter, the Dad threw in a pack of cigarettes, and there was some jerky. But there was also a little beanie baby gold fish and a hand written note from a 7 year old girl that said “Dear Soldier, (I wasn’t even mad) I hope you are doing well. I’m sorry you have to miss thanksgiving with your family. This is my friend Chester. He keeps me safe from monsters, but I think you need him more than I do. I hope he keeps you safe from the monsters you’re fighting. Take good care of him for me”.

You bet your ass that little fish was in my pocket every time I went on patrol.
