he woke up early that morning to go for a swim, leaving everybody else to sleep in. he’s a creature of habit. something he developed from his time during the marines. the water glistens off his skin as he finally emerges out of the ocean, finding that he is no longer alone out here. ❝ good morning. you heading in for a swim? ❞

he had resigned himself to his fate. with the woman he loved finally free of her emotional tether to him, she was safe. he didn’t have to fight anymore, didn’t have to disappoint her anymore, didn’t have to live with her being in danger because of him anymore.

of course, losing that focus, losing that driving force, didn’t leave him with much else. he got up, did his job, and didn’t give a damn about the consequences. unattached and unfeeling, he worked alongside klaus, ensuring his iron fist rule over the city.

the sight of familiar blonde hair stopped him dead in his tracks, and for the first time since madeline came home for the last time, the vampire actually found himself hesitating. “if it’s all the same to you, i think i’ll stand.” memories threatened to worm their way into the forefront of his thinking, but he pushed them down to face the hybrid, speaking to him solely. “what the fuck is she doing here?”

he regarded jeremy cooly as he reacted to the blonde haired vampire being here, cutting into his steak and taking a bite before swallowing it down with a gulp of wine. if he didn’t want to join him that was his deal, klaus wasn’t going to force him. jeremy had already proved his loyalty to him. 

yet he did take note of the anger at seeing evelyn here but he let it go. he had use of both of them and both were willing to help him for their own reasons.  ❝ she came to tell me i have a traitor in my mist and to come be on team klaus. ❞ his gaze turning to the blonde with a smile who met his gaze equally.

she wasn’t looking at jeremy. or anyone else in that room for that matter as she was trying to draw the traitor out. the silence in the room is almost deafening before a chair screeches and one of the vampires makes a run for it.

Tristan’s lips pressed against Aurora’s forehead and her eyes closed at the contact.  Even with her eyes closed, her arms did not fumble or falter as they wrapped around his waist to pull him in toward her.  Aurora didn’t mind snow—but only if she could view it from the comfort of the hearth of a warm fire, had she been close enough to the window to feel the chill of it or god forbid outside, she’d have declared her hatred for the stuff.  But she wasn’t outside.  She was next to a crackling fire with mulled wine and a house beautifully done up for Christmas.  And her brother.  “Don’t think that you can distract me from your promise that I could open a present early, brother.”

A content sigh leaves his lips as she wraps his arms around him and his arms instinctually do the same in return. Content. It’s a rare and fleeting feeling but that’s just what he feels as he stands here with her and it’s just them. No Lucien, no Strix, just his sister. He lets out a chuckle as he lets go of her, glancing underneath the pile of presents that sat underneath the tree. He had gathered presents from all across the globe. Her favorite perfume, a new purse from one of her favorite designers, a silk red dress and the accessories to go with it to name a few.  ❝ I had no intention my darling sister. By all means, choose one. ❞
