On June 9th from 6-9, the Friends of the Edinburg Public Library will host a Painting with Friends event. For $20-$25, participants will be directed by a local artist in painting either a usable canvas bag or canvas capable of being hung in the home. We started with a rough study of the subject on site. It was suggested we use colored pencils, but my teacher said pastels were okay. The pastels were my cheap ones, hence the lack of true colors. So I spent all that time painting the undercoat only to find out that I was going to cover it up. Not only that, but instead of using a brush, I was "required" to use a pallette knife to apply the paint. Not only that, but I had to use the one oil painting skill that I have difficulty with, i.e., color matching and mixing. I'll be applying the details in the coming week. Apparently, this is how #VanGogh painted. There is a jowl missing and the all important skater hair flop on the left side of the face.
