MONTHLY UPDATE MARCH 2026
Featuring: fic of the month, general life updates, and debbie downer galore
Hello to you all from Japan! As I'm writing this, I'm laying in my hotel bed in Takayama, eating shit due to the altitude. More on that later.
This last month has been incredibly hectic for me. I have been overwhelmed with stress, therapy, preparation for this trip, as well as grief, and as such have had very little time to engage in fic writing. I'm hoping to rectify that soon, however, as being on this trip has given me a much needed break from the daily stressors of life. I am incredibly privileged to be able to go on holiday. The world feels like a pretty shit place at the moment, I won't go too much into that, but I'm incredibly grateful I have access to see the beauty it has to offer too. For all those suffering from poor mental health, overwhelm, anxiety and the like, I really do recommend taking a break. It won't be an instant fix, and it certainly won't solve your problems, but it sure can ease the burden, even just for a moment.
I've not only had my share of mental health problems, though, as I have recently been diagnosed with Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS), aka eat shit and die syndrome. It essentially means my heart doesn't work it should, and as such nothing else in my body works as it should. My heart is constantly having to work overtime to pump blood to my head, leading to a whole list of symptoms and other health issues that I can't ve bothered to list here. If you're interested you can look it up yourself. But that's also currently why I'm not feeling the best, as Takayama is 650m above sea level, and also the highest altitude I've ever been without being in a pressurized cabin. It's a beautiful place, I love the mountains and the scenery so much and I even got to touch snow for the very first time!! It just sucks that I literally feel like dying all the time lmao. We leave tomorrow though so I should start feeling better soon :)
Last but not least, we unfortunately has to say goodbye to my dear cat Nala, who was 16 years old, suffering from dementia and hyperthyroidism. I honestly didn't even expect she'd last as long as she did, but I'm grateful for every moment I managed to have with her. Rest in peace, Nala.
I'm sorry for how much of a downer post this is, but I want to keep y'all informed as to where I'm at so you can know where my writing is at. Which is to say, not very far.
I'm really trying to finish this chapter, but I ended up scrapping the whole second half of it because I knew that it wasn't what I wanted to write, and that i was just forcing myself to get something out for the sake of it. I'm still chipping away at it though, and I'm always getting new ideas for future plot points and moments later down the track. It's just a matter of getting there.
But thankfully I have managed to sneak in some reading time, which means it's time for FOTM!
And the fic of the month for March is...
Valshamr by Sombraline!
This fic has been such an interesting read. It's an Avengers AU, where Asgard has attempted to invade Earth, leading to a 10 year war between the Avengers and the Aesir. Loki acts as Odin's unyielding servant, with Tony trying to find a way to put an end to all the fighting. It's been so fascinating to learn all of the subtle changes of this universe, as they're not explicitly stated most of the time, instead being slowly dripfed as the story goes on. It's also incredibly clever, both character wise and plot wise, giving subtle enough clues to hint towards answers that end up seeming obvious in hindsight. It really is incredibly well written and I very much highly recommend it.
Sorry for all the negative talk in this post, but I really am optimistic that things will get better. I hit a pretty rough patch starting off this year, but I haven't backed down yet, and I don't plan on doing so anytime soon.
Thank you all for sticking with me. Truly. I sincerely appreciate you choosing to spend your time learning a little more about me and my story, and I hope some of my words can help someone else out there who feels a similar way.
I'm not giving up. So, until next time, always remember...
To be cringe is to be free!
