Fortunately or unfortunately, nothing lasts forever… Respect how temporary things can be, and you’ll appreciate them at a whole new level, including those not-so-pleasent feelings and emotions.

Both our triumphs and failures will fade and make room for something new, and the cycle will repeat. So don’t over do it with basking in glory, or drowning yourself in sorrow.. It will all pass… Change is a promise #Love

Sincerely Yours

Dear, I wanted to write a poem Solely about you.

Long-handed it would be. Written with such eloquence And brilliance that you would approve.

On a fine sheet of paper, Not on a cheap, loose one Used for everyday exchanges.

Oh, how I intended to write But the more I wanted to The more nervous I became. 

My hand was idle, Ready to spill ink Yet my mind stationary. 

Ideas remained ideas. Feelings didn’t translate into phrases. Words ceased to stain the sheet.

P.S. How does one, make love With only a paper and a pen?

Lemons

They say to make lemonade When life gives you lemons, But I say to throw them right back.

If you’re being bombarded with lemons, Grab a bat And start swinging.

Show life that your mother Didn’t raise no quitter.

When life decides to throw you a curved lemon, Hit that sucker out the park. Tell it, ‘not today’.

Run around with your head held high. Remember that life can be sour, But never strike out.

The Girl I Want:

I want a girl who is tall,  But obviously not taller than me. 

A girl who knows her worth  Yet isn’t a total diva. 

I want a girl with long hair. Not as long as mother’s, But long enough to play with.

A girl with 20/20 vision,  Yet won’t bat an eye  To any other guy.

I want a girl who is into me,  Not the way people are into new songs, But in the way folks listened To records without end.

More Than Friends

I’m jumping with glee, For I never believed This could happen to me.

Years I waited for you In and out Of plain view.

I left behind, A bread trail of clues For you to find.

Little did I know, That I had what I wanted all along. Now we have a special glow.

My best friend Brought my searching To an end.

Now I’m jumping with glee, For I never believed This could happen to me!

For all you love birds; who drive each other crazy, yet can’t stand to be away from one another. This one is for you, Happy Valentines.

This Old Yo-Yo:

I’m bipolar, I go from one extreme to the other. From cold to hot, And hot to cold. I am a wreck. The most negligible things disturb me at times, Other times, the most obnoxious things don’t even make me flinch.

I’m like a yo-yo; I go from high to low, And low to high. Some days I’m a sweetheart, More than often, I’m just a hot-tempered old man. Every day is a new struggle, An unknown challenge to accept.

I got internal issues, Conflicts within me. Mini wars sprouting from my being. Dilemmas devouring me. Venom running through my veins. Though I’m a flawed old man, I have you.

You are the lifesaver in my life. The seat-belt protecting me Ever so tightly from anyone and anything. You are the sturdy cane holding me up, You are my everything.

A yo-yo is nothing without its string, And you, my darling, are my string. You calm me down when I’m outrageous, And raise me up when I’m at my lowest. Genuinely, you always find time for me. Gracefully, you rewind me back to good health every day. Thank you for never giving up On this old gadget.

Human Action Figure:

I may only be a boy, But I am not your toy.

Like an action figure, I have certain motions, Most importantly, I also have emotions.

My flesh may be a bit elastic, But babe, don’t confuse it with plastic. I, too have blood and veins circulating my body, Please don’t treat me like a nobody.

My heart is tender, And yes, it can surrender. My body isn’t indestructible, It’s actually quite slender.

I don’t come with additional accessories Or replaceable parts. If you weren’t certain, you shouldn’t have Put me in your cart. I was fine at the mart.

Instructions weren’t included, No manual was attached. A warranty wasn’t even guaranteed.  

You took a chance with me. In the beginning, you gave me lust, But soon I was left to collect dust.

Mother Nature:

Funerals are portrayed as overcast days With rain and fog. Yet, when your day finally came, The sun was ever beaming down.

The heat blazed through our button up white shirts, Piercing into our aching dark hearts. The rays of sun scowling our bowed heads. Our once wrinkless slacks Now bore many scars from kneeling.

The neckties beautifully wrapped around Our heat beaten necks, Now showed signs of restlessness.

While all this was occurring to us, There you were, Laying ever so peacefully in your coffin. With your unharmed suit and tie, Firmly pressed slacks and gleaming black shoes. Oblivious to the weather, You were the only exception to Mother Nature.

Rain didn't fall from up above, As forecasted for funerals. But raindrops did fall from our faces. The promised fog didn't appear, Such as your memory will never fog From our hearts and minds.

A Beautiful Soul

Like the Great Wall of China, A beauty has erected impenetrable walls.

Though not made from stone, These barriers don’t stand alone. They cover her whole perimeter.

These unyielding panels stretch From her head to her toes. Every inch of her body, Is heavily guarded and protected.

The fortress she has constructed, Has been successful at stopping invading foes. These walls have put an end to predators, As well as the unwanted visitors.

These iron curtains, Have securely secluded her from Heartbreaks and life altogether.

She’s lived too long behind enclosed walls. Sunlight doesn’t even penetrate. Rumors say that beyond the unforsaken walls, Lies a beautiful soul.

A beauty that has never known what love is. Never gave nor received a kiss. She’s lived her entire life without taking risks.

Like the Berlin Wall, This beauty must demolish her defenses. Liberate her inner beauty, Take a chance and let herself shine.

Empty Chair:

My appetite Consists of eating light. Nothing too dark nor too bright. Everything is measured precisely in portions, Nothing is ever out of proportion. I eat the same old thing every day, During holidays and on my birthday. Life soon becomes bland, Just lifting my hand To eat is a struggle.

My life no longer has flavor, I forgot how it feels to savor. You were my salt. Without you, life came to a halt. I even tried chopping sticks Yet, that still didn’t do the trick. Quickly I became restless, For everything is tasteless. The sugar in my lemonade Doesn’t taste quite as sweet Without you at my aid. Food makes people feel hefty Yet, it makes me feel empty.

No longer are you across the table Keeping me mentally stable. This table of two is reserved for one; The additional plate is no longer required, An extra glass isn’t obligatory. The second set of silverware Is nowhere to be found. All I have now is an empty chair, Where you used to be.

An illusion: 

A spectacular show you orchestrated With my feelings as the main event.   What you did to me was a felony, Now I’m in deep agony.

In your ceaseless appetite, I was merely a bite-size chocolate, Dumb of me for being so easy to manipulate.

It didn’t even take you awhile To become so agile, Stupid of me for being so fragile.

Everything was in vain, The same story repeats yet again Heartbreak is where I end and begin. With you I had high hopes, Now my heart is tangled by ropes. You burst my bubble, Foolish of me for being so gullible

You played with me the way a ventriloquist Finds pleasure playing with their dummy. You’ve made me illusional Worst, left me Unemotional.

I have to remind myself that you’re not poetry even though I write about you. Poetry is pure, genuine and honest. You are empty promises, cold disappointments and painful lies. You are nothing like poetry. And I wish it hadn’t taken me this long to see.
