Navajo Generating Station. Largest coal plant west if the Mississippi is located on the Navajo Nation, near Page, Arizona United States. This plant provided electrical power to customers in Arizona, Nevada, and California. It also provided the power for pumping Colorado River water for the Central Arizona Project. On November 18, 2019, plant ceased commercial generation, and deconstruction is slated to begin in 2020. Goldfield, Arizona was founded in 1893, after the discovery of gold in the surrounding area of the Superstition Mountains. The town was abandoned twice by its residents, after the mine veins faulted. The land where the town is located was purchased by a private investor and is now a tourist attraction.
