I'm not saying I dislike the "having to wait for and earn the captaincy" storyline. There's obviously a lot of really interesting stories there and great character beats that have resulted in some of my favorite Trek characters. But there is an extremely noticeable pattern in which show leads need character development to move up the ranks

And who is presented as inherently qualified from the beginning

And before anyone mentions her, yes, I know we have Captain Freeman, but she's not the lead of her show

Everytime this post gets a note I remember the person that accused me of putting Kirk on here "three times to make it look like a bigger issue." First of all, it would still be an issue even if I did only use one Kirk, though I do think tos and aos Kirk are different enough characters with different enough storylines to both be included. Second of all. Pike is such a cardboard cutout of a man people don't even recognize him as his own character, and that's hilarious to me personally

i think it's funny when a character is almost exclusively referred to by their last name by other people and this carries over into their internal monologue when someone writes from their pov. not even on a first name basis with herself

…but I also think my tendency is to approach all text, whether it’s the Hebrew Bible or Star Trek or Steven Universe with the Midrashic impulse…

I think for medieval travelogue for bajorans: it’s a vedek who felt called to the prophets but has a travellers caste. Something like relief work would have worked but she instead became something of a folklorist, chronicling regional traditions and customs of the worship of prophets. I want her to be very similar to ibn battuta, in terms of wildly intense variety of experiences and accuracy of descriptions. This is one of the most different of the styles of book that I’ve tried, so I’m torn between the TRAVEL magazine and like. Older copies of actual medival Turkish art or like. gullivars travels

Im also so torn about including the light solar ship? Bc that feels like that would dominate what otherwise would be a very interesting creative project, bc just incorporating the feel of old travel writing is hard enough
