January 27th, 2017
“Yeah… now this is my shit!” The player enthused whilst turning up the radio station, sat in his black Aston Martin. “It’s seven o’ clock, on the dot, I’m in my drop top… cruisin the streets. I gotta real pretty pretty little thang that’s waiting for me. I pull up!” He sang out before realizing that his best friend and teammate was still nowhere in sight.
Looking at the time, he deeply sighed to himself before pressing the call button.
“Yo D! What the hell is taking you so damn long man? We were supposed to be at your club by 12. It’s now 11:58!“
“Look Terrence… I’m not coming.” The man of the hour nonchalantly replied over the phone.
“Fuck you mean “you’re not coming”? This party is for you, Derek!“ His best friend argued, now starting to get frustrated.
"I said what I said man. Besides, I didn’t ask for this damn party.”
“Derek… these people have come all this way just to welcome your black ass back! Therefore, stop this shit and get outside. I’m not gonna tell you again.” Terrence simply had no energy for Derek’s shitty mood. If this were any other night, he would’ve let this go. However, a lot of planning and love went into making this night in particular special for the troubled player… and he was not about to take no for an answer.
"You’re not hearing me, T. I said I’m not coming. Tell those people to take their asses home. You know they’re only there to get put on anyway. Fuck em." Derek shot back. He really was in no mood for company.
"D… come on man. You’ve got Jelena and I. You know we have and will always have your back. She went to a lot of trouble to help plan this for you, you know that?”
After hearing those words from his best friend, the player took a few seconds to think to himself. Both Jelena and Terrence were like siblings to him. In fact, blood couldn’t make them any closer. They were simply his family and honestly, he’d pretty much do anything for them. However, after going through what felt like the lowest point in his life… Derek just didn’t feel like celebrating anything or with anyone.
Backstory
One of the most infamous brawls in NBA history occurred on October 28, 2016 after a brief scuffle between Derek Roman and Josh Smith (LA Clippers). Due to a hard foul, a fan threw a beverage on Derek… causing all hell to break loose. Derek and a fellow Devil’s teammate jumped into the stands and punched the beverage thrower. More players and fans jumped in the brawl to try and separate the two, but Derek was too far gone. After the smoke had cleared, Derek was ordered to pay a $50,000 fine whilst receiving a 3 month ban, a 6 month probation, a year of anger management classes… plus 100 hours of community service. The beverage thrower however, would suffer from a broken eye socket and a broken jaw. He would also be banned from attending any future games the LA Devil’s would play.
…..
“T, I swear if it wasn’t for the fact that y'all were like family to me… I would not even consider this shit. Count yourselves lucky. You owe me one.” The player finally replied after much thought.
“I owe you one for attending your own damn party? Really nig… you know what, never mind.” Terrence shook his head and laughed. “I appreciate it brother.”
“Man whatever. I’ll be down in 5.”
“Now that’s what I like to hear.”
“And I’m taking my Ferrari. Not tryna hear your non-singing ass, and shit.” Derek shot back, unable to hold back his laughter. Terrence could only accept his L since Derek actually could sing.
After a few more minutes, both players were set to go. They drove off in their sports cars ready to see what the night had in store for them.

12:30am
Club Rome was usually one of the hottest places to be at in Downtown, Los Angeles. And tonight was no different. Party goers were stood waiting outside impatiently in ques that filled the entire block, whilst several celebrities, athletes, socialites and vips entered the infamous club. However, no entrance would be more anticipated than that of Club Rome’s very own… Derek Marcel Roman.
After spending a few months off the court following the incident that occurred, people couldn’t wait to see the return of the “Bad Boy” of Basketball… and now was finally the time.
Once the two black sports cars pulled up to the valet parking, the unruly crowd began to get even wilder. The loud ruckus outside was going head-to-head with the party going on inside. And as if that wasn’t enough… the paparazzi began to swarm in to get their first glimpse of the player. Meanwhile, back in their cars the two players exchanged a few text messages.
…..
Terrence: Looking kinda crazy out there. You ready?
Derek: I stay ready.
Terrence: Aight. Let’s go.
…..
And with that said, the two players exited their cars only to be almost deafened by the crowd and blinded by the flashing lights.
“Look… it’s Derek Roman and Terrence Wall!” One of the paparazzi called out, whilst taking endless shots. The party goers began to get even crazier.
“Derek, Derek… over here!” Another followed. “Is it true you went to rehab?”
“Guess the Roman Emperor finally lived up to the Bad Boy name?” Yet another added, instantly causing both Derek and Terrence stopped dead in their tracks.
If looks could kill, this camera man would be six feet under. Derek could feel himself begin to lose it, however once Terrence grabbed his shoulder… he began to calm down, though still mad as fuck. This had always been Terrence’s way of calming the player down since they both got drafted together and grew very close. Derek had always been the hotheaded one, ready to kick ass and ask questions later… whilst Terrence was the calm and collected one though would knock someone the hell out if need be.
Deciding to take the high road, the player just continued to walk alongside his teammate… finally entering the club.
________________________________________________________________
The missing presence of the player didn’t even seem to matter as the party was in full swing! The bartenders were busy fixing one drink after the other, as the DJ continued to play straight fire whilst the strippers dropped down and got their eagle on. It was fair to say that everyone was having the time of their lives, and Derek couldn’t help but grin as they made their way through.
“Well damn…” the player mused, observing his surroundings.
“And your stupid ass didn’t wanna come.” Terrence added, soaking up the scene.
“Haha, aight… I’ll give you that. This shit is lit!”
“And it’s about to get even better.” Terrence continued as he caught the attention of the DJ, giving him the signal.
“Aight ladies & gentlemen… Club Rome is about to get even more turnt up! The man of the hour, the Roman Emperor himself… Derek “Bad Boy” Roman has finally arrived!” The crowd went wild as the spotlight hit the star athlete. “Glad to have you back brotha! Now let’s really crank this shit up. This one’s for you D-Ro!” The DJ finally added, before dropping Panda – by Desiigner, causing everyone in the club to to lose their shit.
Derek saluted the DJ before making his way through the rest of the club with Terrence. As they continued to greet everyone, a less than impressed Jelena spotted them and made her move…
“And what time do you call this?” Came the bark of the feisty female.
“Baby, baby, calm down. I was on time… blame Derek.” Terrence replied, trying to relax his fiancée with a kiss to the forehead. However, Derek was too busy catching the attention of several thirsty women to realise how pissed his friend was.
“Derek!” She yelled, hitting his shoulder.
“Oh my bad, Jelena. I just wasn’t feeling up to it… but T convinced me to come, and I see why. You’ve done a great job and I really appreciate beautiful.” He continued, using his charm to his advantage. She rolled her eyes as the player leaned in to hug her. “You’re lucky I love you like a brother.”
“Haha. Take it easy on T… for me.” He whispered.
“I’ll see.” The two laughed, before Derek went back to entertaining his waiting group of females.
“So… can I get some of that love too?” Terrence spoke whilst wrapping his arms around Jelena’s waist.
“Should’ve gotten here when I told you to. You had one job, Terrence!” Jelena fiercely shot back, slapping his hand… however he only tightened his grip.
“He’s here now, isn’t he?” He softly placed a kiss on the side of her neck. “I’ll make it up to you when we get home…”
His words only caused the vixen to grin. The couple shared a quick kiss and headed to the VIP booth.
…..
1:45am
After checking out the strippers alongside a few other basketball players, Derek joined Terrence & Jelena back in VIP with a few groupies tagging along.
“Man, y’all outdid yourselves tonight!” He enthused before taking a swig of his Hennessey.
“As did you. Looks like Peaches made at least $5k.” Jelena looked over to the stripper, then back at Derek.
“$10k actually.” The smug player corrected, causing the groupies to swoon.
“You’ve got to be kidding me…” Terrence added, shaking his head.
“I’m young, single and rich as fuck.”
“Mmm… that’s right Zaddy!” One of his jump-offs spoke, rubbing on his upper thigh.
“I can’t.” Jelena replied in disgust.
“Chill.” He laughed. “You think I’d really spend that much on some random girl? Come on now. I am Derek Roman. I gave her $1k.”
“You’re still a mess.”
“Thank you.”
They all laughed until getting interrupted by another young female, and a group of very familiar faces.
“Jey!” The young dancer called out, waving vigorously.
“Oh my gosh, Ahsha! Come here girl.” Jelena replied just as excited. “I was starting to think you weren’t going to make it.” She continued as the beautiful dancer made her way into the booth.
“You know me, I wouldn’t miss a party like this for the world.”
“Me either!” Her friend Kyle added.
Jelena hugged the young beauty, before introducing her to the rest.
“Guys, this is my little cousin Ahsha.”
“Hey y’all!” She sweetly spoke. However, Derek was too busy whispering sweet nothings into yet another groupies ear.
“You and Terrence have already met.” Jelena continued, as her fiancé got up to give Ahsha a hug. “What’s up trouble?”
“Please… you’re engaged to trouble.” She shot back, winking at her older cousin.
“Haha! Touché.”
“Speaking of trouble… this is Derek. Derek!” Jelena called out again, finally grabbing the player’s attention. “This is my cousin, Ahsha. She’s a Devil Girl now, so stay away from her.” She continued jokingly. However, the minute both the player and the young dancer set their eyes on one another… it was as if the room had stood completely still. Dressed in a black lace playsuit in which showed off her small yet alluring cleavage, whilst complimented by her peep-toe Givenchy ankle boots, and set of sterling silver Michael Kors jewellery… the dancer was simply breath taking. The fact that her hair was bone straight, made the player weak in the knees.
He wasn’t the only one feeling some type of way though. Ahsha couldn’t seem to take her eyes off of the infamous bad boy. His chiselled features and muscular body had her breathless. Plus, it didn’t help that he was wearing the hell out of his Tom Ford black velvet blazer, with a slightly opened fitted white shirt, matching fitted black trousers, black Gucci loafers and a huge silver Rolex to finish the look.
“A Devil Girl huh?” The player stood up and reached over to shake her hand. “Derek Roman.”
“Ahsha… Hayes.” She replied, feeling her heartbeat begin to increase. “I know who you are.” She continued, trying to play it off. Did she mention that he smelt like sex? His cologne was invading all of her senses and don’t get her started on that deep ass voice of his!
“Oh yeah? Well it’s a shame that I don’t know you. Maybe we can change that…” He cooed, eyes still fixated on hers as their hands stayed linked together.
“Maybe not. I have a boyfriend.” She immediately snapped back into reality, pulling her hand out of his.
“Of course.” Came his simple reply as he slowly looked her up and down. Damn she was sexy! “So, that means you can’t have friends?”
“It means… she has a boyfriend, Derek.” Jelena interrupted, shaking her head.
“I have enough friends.” Ahsha added.
“Alright.” He chuckled. “Well hopefully I’ll see you around, Miss. Hayes?”
“Don’t bank on it.” She winked, before taking her place beside her cousin and catching up.
Derek could barely think straight. Whichever one of his groupies had his attention before… was a distant memory now. All he could think of was Ahsha, and getting to know her. He continued to watch on as she engaged in conversation with Jelena. Just the way her eyes twinkled as her raspy laugh filled the VIP section, had him transfixed. The player simply couldn’t understand what it was about the young dancer, but man did she have him feeling things he had never felt for any other woman before.
Just as the player continued to enjoy the view of his new “interest”, another familiar face made their way over to the desired athlete and his guests.
“Sorry ma’am… I can’t let you past.” The bodyguard stood beside the velvet rope spoke, causing the young female to get irritated.
“I’m with Derek.” She added with enough bite in her voice.
“Ma’am I can’t let you…”
“Derek!” She called out, causing the player to look up only to roll his eyes.
“Yo Jeff, it’s fine. Let her through.” He simply added, receiving a nod from the bodyguard.
“That’s what I thought…” Came her sassy reply before setting her eyes on the very man she’s been waiting for. “Now I know you’re not just going to sit there…” She seductively spoke, placing her hands on her hips. By now, everyone was looking at the scene before them ready to see what would happen next. The player stood up and approached the beautiful temptress…
“You didn’t have to make a scene.”
“And you didn’t have to be so damn fine… but shit happens.” She purred, running her hands up his torso before placing them on either side of his face.
“I’m serious, Claudette.”
“Mmm… you’re so sexy when you get mad baby.” And just like that she kissed his lips, to which the player couldn’t resist.
Terrence and Jelena simply went back to talking, as this was nothing new… whilst Derek’s other groupies didn’t seem too bothered and decided to entertain themselves. However, Ahsha couldn’t help but feel some type of way. Was she jealous? How could she be jealous of a girl she barely knew and a guy she literally just met? Her eyes stayed on the player and his jump-off as they continued to exchange kisses. She instantly began to feel herself get heated and knew she had to find an excuse to leave the area.
“I’m going to call Keith. He was meant to be here by now.” The dancer said to her cousin, before getting up and heading for the barrier. “Sorry… excuse me.” She added whilst trying to get past Derek and his girl?
“Woah, woah… you leaving already?” The player instantly shot back, gently grabbing her arm. He was not ready to see Ahsha go.
Oh, so now he remembers me? She thought to herself before replying. “No, just going to make a call.”
“Ahh, to your man right?” He grinned, earning an unamused look from both women.
“Right.” Ahsha bluntly added before immediately leaving the scene.
“Cute.” Claudette sarcastically spoke, rolling her eyes. However, Derek couldn’t help but sense something was bothering the young dancer. Seeing her walk away like that had an instant effect on him. Suddenly, Claudette’s presence was no longer necessary or needed.

3:00am
The player had spent a good 15 minutes in search of the newest addition to the Los Angeles Devil Girls, however just when he began to think she had left… he heard two voices coming from one of the pods in the back.
“You do this every fucking time, Keith.”
“Baby… you know how it goes. I’m an artist, I stay travelling and shit. I’ll make it up to you though. I promise.”
“Same shit, different day. I’m over it.”
“Ahsha, you better not hang up on me.”
“I have nothing more to say to your ass, Keith.”
“Does it sound like I’m done talking? Cos I’m not done talking. I said I’m sorry. Now do you accept it or nah?”
“How about you let the girl in the back answer that for you. Bye Keith.”
“Come on Ahsha, she’s just some chick on our tour bus. You know I’ve got…”
Before the ex-NFL player turned struggling artist could finish his sentence, Derek grabbed the phone from Ahsha and hung it up to her surprise.
“You’re welcome.” The player spoke.
“I know you did not just do that?” Ahsha replied, annoyed… yet secretly grateful.
“I’m sorry, did you not hear how he was talking to you?”
“That was none of your damn business.” She shot back.
“Well, I’m not about to stand here and listen to some punk talk to you or any female like that for that matter… especially not in my club.”
“Okay, 1… I am grown and can defend my damn self. 2… I just met you, therefore you don’t owe me anything.”
“My mother raised me better than that. He was being disrespectful, therefore I stepped in like a man should.”
“Again, you had no right to intervene. You should get back to your groupies now.”
“I’m not worried about them right now.”
“But you’re worried about me now all of a sudden? Right.” Ahsha no longer cared how she sounded or came across.
“That’s right. And I always will be from now on.” Derek’s tone was now serious as he sat down beside her. “Look Ahsha, not many people get to see this side of me… but for some reason, I’m drawn to you.” The player honestly spoke, earning an eye roll from the dancer.
“Wonder how many times you’ve said that line. All you men are the same. You say shit to get your way, then go back on your word.”
“Ahsha…” He grabbed her hand. “Here what I am saying. This isn’t the Bad Boy or the Roman Emperor coming at you… this is Derek Marcel Roman.” They locked eyes once again, causing an instant reaction. “I know we just met, but I want to get to know you for real. I don’t know what it is or why you appear differently to all of these other chicks… however, that doesn’t matter.”
“I have a boyfriend, Derek.” She firmly added, trying her hardest not to fall for his words.
“That clearly doesn’t respect you.”
“That’s beside the point. We have been together for 3 years. Besides, don’t you have something going on with Claudia?”
“Years don’t mean a damn thing if there’s no respect. By now you can tell that I clearly give zero fucks about ole dude… and as for Claudette, it’s nothing more than just sex.”
“Didn’t seem that way.” Ahsha replied, breaking eye contact.
“Well that’s what it is, Ahsha. I have no reason to lie to you.” Derek continued, using his hand to raise her chin.
For a brief moment, they could both sense one another’s intentions. All Ahsha wanted was for Derek to kiss her, and the player knew this. His eyes stayed fixated on hers before slowly travelling down to her plump lips. He had never felt the desperate urge to taste another woman’s lips this badly before, until now. The player began to softly caress the dancer’s cheek causing her to weaken at his touch. However, Ahsha just couldn’t let this happen. Things were moving way too fast!
Once his head began to slowly close in on hers… she slightly turned her head causing his soft lips to press against the side of her mouth.
“I can’t.” She whispered, as his head remained on the side of her face. Just his scent was driving her wild. Ahsha wanted him bad, but had to recollect herself.
“I’ve never wanted to kiss another woman this bad before.” His deep voice sounded in her ear, only making resisting him harder. “I want you… but I understand. No pressure.” He pulled away.
“This can’t happen again, Derek.” Ahsha’s tone instantly changed as she immediately stood up. She had to distance herself from him before things got way out of hand.
“It takes two, Ahsha. Remember that.” Derek calmly shot back, smoothing out his trousers before standing up also.
They both remained silent as their eyes locked in on one another’s once again, before getting interrupted for the second time that night.
“There you are, Daddy. How you gon leave me hangin like that?” She purred with the most devilish look in her eyes. “I was looking everywhere for you.” Claudette added before noticing that he wasn’t alone.
“Am I interrupting something or?” The vixen was fuming at the sight. Why did Derek seem so interested in this nobody? She thought to herself.
“No. I was just leaving.” Ahsha replied as she began to leave the vicinity. Derek’s eyes stayed on her.
“Good.” Claudette sassed, causing Ahsha to stop and look back at her.
“Excuse you?” She raised her eyebrow.
“No, excuse you! Did I stutter?”
“I dunno. Forming actual sentences doesn’t seem like your strongest suit.” Ahsha shot back, causing Derek’s eyes to widen. This was the second time that Ahsha displayed that she could defend herself, only impressing him more. This girl was phenomenal. Articulate, classy, talented, could put you in your place if need be… and beyond sexy. The player was sold.
“Come again bitch?” Claudette moved in closer to her.
“Oh, so now you can’t hear?” Ahsha squared up. Tonight was not the night to get on her bad side. “Listen… I may look sweet, but trust me… I will put a jump-off in her place with no problem. Do not try me.” She continued with the nastiest glare.
“You found the wrong fucking one today!” Claudette snapped, raising her hand to slap Ahsha… however Derek rushed over so quick that they both didn’t even see him coming. He strongly grabbed the vixen’s raised arm with the fiercest look in his eyes. The player was pissed!
“Have you lost your fucking mind, Claudette?” He spoke through gritted teeth. “Have you!”
“So you’re defending this bitch now, Derek?”
“Calm yo ass down.” His voice now raised.
Ahsha had had enough. She needed to leave the club now, before acting even more out of character.
“Count yourself lucky, bitch.” Claudette shouted out.
“No. You count yourself lucky… bitch.” She finally added, before strutting away.
“Ahsha, I’m sorry.” Derek called out sincerely. Claudette had possibly ruined any chances of getting to know Ahsha on a deeper level, and he was beyond livid.
The dancer heard his voice but continued to walk. She saw the trouble that came with dealing with someone like Derek and decided from this point onwards, to stay far away from the player. Keith’s no good ass was enough, so she thought. However, there was just something about Derek. Something she really couldn’t seem to put her finger on, ignore, or fight off.
Things were about to get interesting from here on out.
________________________________________________________________
The player was ready to call it a night after what had just taken place between Ahsha and Claudette. After making his way back to the party ready to say his goodbyes to his best friend, the very person he was looking for rushed up to him looking less than impressed.
“What the hell did you do?” Terrence exclaimed.
“What are you talking about, T?”
“Ahsha came out here like she was ready to kick someone’s ass, told Jelena only getting her pissed too… then they both rushed outta here. Did you try to mack on her or some shit? After Jelena done told your ass that she has a man? D what is wrong with y…”
“Yo, calm the hell down Terrence. It wasn’t even like that. Ahsha and I had a moment. Everything was going well til Claudette’s crazy ass interrupted and fucked things up. They both got into it, and Ahsha left.” He sighed, whilst shaking his head.
“Derek, man…”
“I didn’t expect shit to go down like this, T. Had to check Claudette’s ass right in front of Ahsha… and now I think I’ve blown my chances with her.” The player looked down.
“What chances? What part of “she has a man” do you not understand?” Terrence shot back.
“If I want something… I’ll do everything in my power to get it. And you of all people know that I do not back down from a challenge.”
“Just leave her alone, D. She’s not like the other girls man.”
“Exactly.”
“All this for some sex?”
“Nah. I can get sex anytime, anyplace, anywhere. What I can’t get is a good woman with a genuine heart. All this… for a woman I want to be with.” Derek confidently spoke.
“You’ve gotta be kidding me right now man. You’ve never settled for anyone, let alone been in a committed relationship.” Terrence was actually baffled.
“There’s a time for everything, T. I see what you and Jey have… and I want that. Those 3 months away from the court, away from the fast life, away from everyone, really opened my eyes. I would’ve given anything to have a down ass chick by my side during that time… and now I think I’ve finally found her. Ahsha is for me, I know it! And I’ll do everything I can to let her know that.”
“You just met her though?” His best friend seriously wasn’t understanding.
“I guess when you know, you just know.” The player shrugged. Terrence finally got it.
“Pshhh… well alright then player. I hear that, and I seriously wish you good luck. You’re gonna need it cos Jelena is going to roast your ass.”
“My mama always said “Love doesn’t come easy”. I’m ready.” Derek laughed, and dabbed his best friend. The two players continued to laugh about the whole thing as they finally made their way out of the club.
With his eyes now set on Ahsha Hayes, Derek Roman was ready to face everything life was about to throw at him, in order to get his dream girl.
This was just the beginning…
