reasons why i loved spider-verse
psa: if you havent seen the movie you should probably skip out on this because like… spoilers, bruh
okay i had like a whole ass essay written out on this beautiful, wonderful movie but i kinda got writers block ig in the middle of it so here’s a list of why i love this damn movie
the animation was absolutely stunning. look, i know hundreds of people have said this already, but goddamn spider-verse was… beautiful. bright. i cant really think of words right now but the animation was so captivating and genuinely like… beautiful and unique and god i loved the amount of work they put into it and the universes different styles of animation and just. aaaaaaaaa
the fight scenes were so amazing to watch!! i know this is mainly bc of the animation and should be in the last point but god just literally everything about the fight scenes was great. the dialogue, the character interactions, the animation.
this movie wasnt just loud noises and bright animation, it found the time to squeeze in some great character moments throughout the film, for like… every character.
for once i was actually interested in every character and what their story was!! usually in movies theres always that one character that i just wish would have less screen time, but spiderverse didnt really… have that character. i mean i wasnt super interested in kingpin but i am really, really glad they put in his motivations instead of just making him the generic ass ‘i’m going to do it because i’m bad’ villain. but all the spider-people, aunt may, olivia, miles’ family, dude i was interested in them all.
they let the emotional moments sit!! i love how this film just let emotional moments have their time without being abruptly cut short by a joke. yes i still enjoy films that do this (e.g thor: ragnarok) but im really glad spider-verse did what they did.
i wasnt bored at all! like, not even for a second!! hell, even in movies i enjoy i always seem to have this moment of, oh god this scene is so long, or, or god this movie is dragging on, but spiderverse didnt make me think this at all. i always wanted to know what happened next and every single scene engaged me.
olivia octavius!! gonna be completely honest and say i did not expect that at all, but boy did i enjoy her character!
the soundtrack. the fucking soundtrack, oh my god. i dont even… im not even sure how to word this but like. the way the soundtrack wound its way and amplified every scene had me fuckin shook, okay. it was amazing.
aw man… that stan lee cameo. “you know, he’s my friend” “they always fit eventually” :’) also the stan lee and steve ditko (fuck i cant remember what its called exactly but like. when that quote appeared on screen, with steve ditko and stan lee’s names up the top and the glasses. i deadass almost burst into tears man)
god the references. i am a fucking sucker for references of any kinda and this movie did not disappoint me. the sam raimi references, the references to memes in the credits… a bunch more references i probably missed…
the end credit scene. i genuinely gasped out that when the lady (who i dont know the name of im sorry!!) said miguel. bruh. and also the fuckgin spider-man tv show animation… probably one of my fav end credit scenes. wow. and a bunch of other things that i probably forgot!! if you read all of this, ilysm!!
All of these things. I was crying or on the edge of tears through most of the movie.
I already had a bad feeling beforehand because of the “fuzziness” of this Space Crusade era plastic Space Marine scout. And after paint stripping it with Dettol this was basically confirmed. I can only speculate that somebody had previously (and not very sucessfully) tried to strip this mini with either a corrosive paint stripper like acetone (NEVER use on plastic minis). Or even had a go at it with a wire brush or something similar. In any case the surface details beneath the paint were already pretty worn away before the Dettol stripping and the smooth surfaces also damaged.
This 1st edition plastic Imperial Army/ Imperial Guard trooper cleaned up pretty well with Dettol. Added benefit: the cleaner also disolved the superglue joints. As always the paint stripper will not be able to remove glue/paint mix. But overall I am quite happy how it worked. And it confirmed that this early GW plastic is also resistant to Dettol.
Some 1st edition (Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader) plastic Space Marine bits from the legendary “Beakies” RTB01 box paint stripped with Dettol. The previous owner unfortunately used some rock hard melting glue to attach a metal plasma cannon to one arm, nothing much but to do about it than to later repair it with green stuff. But otherwise successful paint stripping operation, almost as good as new and the parts that were attached by superglue came apart nicely.
Remedial Schmaltz-Making
I’m making chicken soup which means that I have to trim a bunch of chicken thighs which means that it is schmaltz-o-clock feat. my Magen David ramen bowl.
So anyway the first step is to have a bunch of chicken fat and skin.
Slimy. Also gross.
You will also need an onion, a funnel, a jar, and cheesecloth, but not for a long time.
Next, chop up the chicken skin. This is easier if you chill it in the fridge for a while first.
Spread the skin and fat out in the widest frying pan you have and turn the burner on medium.
Chop up the onion while you wait for the fat to render out. You should occasionally scrape the bottom of the pan with your spatula and dislodge anything that’s trying to stick. Don’t get impatient and try to turn the heat up too high. Eventually (30 minutes or so? I didn’t time, but I should have), it should look like this:
Turn the heat down to low, stand back a bit, and throw in your chopped onion. Bring the heat back to medium.
Grab your cheesecloth, a funnel (I like to use a wide-mouth canning funnel but any funnel will do), and a jar. Spread the cheesecloth out inside the funnel and stand it in your jar in the sink.
When the onions are crispy and the schmaltz has turned golden, it’s time to strain it:
WAIT. STOP. Don’t throw away the crunchy bits. Those are called gribenes and I don’t know what happens if you throw them away but I expect it involves the earth swallowing you up or possibly getting yelled at by your donkey. Don’t do it. Spread them out on a towel to drain, then salt them lightly and eat them.
Huzzah. You have a jar of schmaltz. Now go saute things in it or make matzo balls. It keeps in the freezer indefinitely.

oh my godd the little look up at the end
Daenerys:
Grows up her entire life forced to live in exile
Grows up running from King Robert’s “The Usurper’s” assassins
Grows up hearing about how her brother’s children and wife were slaughtered.
Grows up knowing a member of her father’s own Kingsguard turned against him and killed him (this man’s father being the one who sacked King’s Landing during the Rebellion).
Gets news of her family’s kingdom being plunged into chaos - five different men declaring themselves “King” of all or part of Westeros and fighting over it. Kings murdered, Lords fighting lords, lands put to the torch, smallfolk terrorized and raped.
Her home country in a great amount of debt due to the “Usurper’s” profligacy and now the War of the Five Kings.
Doesn’t learn the truth about her father’s madness until the end of ASOS and then fears after that she may have the “taint” of madness and constantly worries about her own motivations (as opposed to a truly mad person who wouldn’t give a shit about it).
But no, go off and talk about how Daenerys “only” wants to return to Westeros and take the Iron Throne because she’s “entitled” and not at all because she thinks her country has been suffering under the rule of those who came after the end of the Targaryens and maybe, just maybe, wants to return her home country to the rule of law and ensure the safety of all its citizens, especially the smallfolk and civilian populations, and return her country to order.
“Ah, Arya. You have a wildness in you, child. ‘The wolf blood,’ my father used to call it. Lyanna had a touch of it, and my brother Brandon more than a touch. It brought them both to an early grave.” Arya heard sadness in his voice; he did not often speak of his father, or of the brother and sister who had died before she was born. "Lyanna might have carried a sword, if my lord father had allowed it. You remind me of her sometimes. You even look like her.“
”Lyanna was beautiful,“ Arya said, startled. Everybody said so. It was not a thing that was ever said of Arya.
“She was,” Eddard Stark agreed, “beautiful, and willful, and dead before her time.“ — A Game of Thrones, Arya II

Tumblr keeps suggesting this post and I’m going to reblog it every time I see it
You know we’re in the dark timeline when Stephenie Meyer has minded her own damned business for years and J.K. Rowling keeps tumbling down the metaphorical steps of murdering her own universe and personal character in the public eye for everyone to see.
Like, if in 2008 you had told me Stephenie Meyer would quietly retire and stay in her lane instead of continuing to write weird Mormon fantasy with nothing but white characters and J.K. Rowling would be on Twitter spouting some shit like “THE GOBLET OF FIRE WAS ACTUALLY ONCE A TRANS WOMAN, I’VE BEEN SITTING ON THIS SINCE 1986!” I’d say you were a fucking liar.
But here we are.
Reblogging for both the commentary and the blog name.
A Midsummer Night’s Dream [x]
What with the Mercutio/Romeo kiss from the other day I feel like I should have a tag specifically for “men kissing in Shakespeare plays even though it’s not in the text, but after 400 years of unresolved sexual tension it’s time.”
Asdfghjkl;:
Whaaat this is the most over the top dip-and-kiss I’ve ever seen and I love it
OR, maybe, just maybe, and hear me out here, MAYBE the actual reason is that not as many people in this day and age feel a pressing urge to spend money on mediocre food at an exploitative business just because some boobs are under a t-shirt in the same room? This promise was an exciting novelty only to a pre-internet and wealthier generation which simultaneously felt far less shame in leering at or catcalling women but far more shame in looking at porn. Hooters was softcore pseudo burlesque for married Christian men and the culture permitting its success will likely never be repeated and shouldn’t be.
Hooters always seemed really weird for me for this exact reason. It’s like this bizarre fusion of strip club and family restaurant that no one asked for. The food isnt great, everyone is fully clothed, even the staff exists in a creepy limbo where they’re not actually strippers, but they’re only there because of their tits. Its like if someone decided to turn exploitation into a chain restaurant.
Millennials go to an actual strip club or burlesque show if that’s what they’re into, and then to a good wings bar after. There’s no need for a completely mediocre combination of the two
How dare they accuse us of not liking boobs. How dare
harley quinn in dark nights metal: the resistance
I’ve said this before and I’ll point it out again -
Menstruation is caused by change in hormonal levels to stop the creation of a uterine lining and encourage the body to flush the lining out. The body does this by lowering estrogen levels and raising testosterone.
Or, to put it more plainly “That time of the month” is when female hormones most closely resemble male hormones. So if (cis) women aren’t suited to office at “That time of the month” then (cis) men are NEVER suited to office.
If you are a dude and don’t dig the ladies around you at their time of the month, just think! That is you all of the time.
And, on a final note, post-menopausal (cis) women are the most hormonally stable of all human demographics. They have fewer hormonal fluctuations of anyone, meaning older women like Hilary Clinton and Elizabeth Warren would theoretically be among the least likely candidates to make an irrational decision due to hormonal fluctuations, and if we were basing our leadership decisions on hormone levels, then only women over fifty should ever be allowed to hold office.
Reblogging hard for that last comment.
I WANTED TO SAY THIS BUT THEN SOMEONE ELSE DID and I’m damn proud.
GLORIOUS
