Ā Ā Ā āEh?ā Russ asked, hearing her words, but not understanding them. That wasnāt unusual for him though. Most things went right over his head.Ā āTraveling where, exactly? The top tower?ā
āAnd please, do tell me what about it isnāt a suck fest?ā Dahlia huffed, annoyed already with this new body.Ā āAfter a while looking at the same walls becomes a bit of a downer.ā
Ā Ā Ā āThen donāt look atĀ āem?ā Russ asked, tone cocky, and laughed at the girl. His fingers felt empty without a roll between them, to the rubbed his lips instead.Ā āThey seem fine to me. But let me guess, princess, they arenāt to your pristine taste? You look like you are used to glamour. Not me, princess. Not me.ā
Xena looked over at Russel and laughed.Ā āThe only one I can stand taking care of you is little Russ.ā She teased.
Ā Ā Ā āLittle Russ?ā He raised an eyebrow, lazy grin still spread over his lips.Ā āI wouldnāt be saying that, but you wouldnāt know.ā
āBecause Iād much rather be doing something else today. I donāt really want to be at work.ā
Ā Ā Ā āOh, boo-hoo, the sane lady doesnāt want to care for the crazies. At least you get to clock out at the end of the day.āĀ

When Russel hugged him, Charlie felt safe. He felt comfortable. He felt at home. Wrapping his arms tight around the others waist, Charlie tried to stop his tears.Ā āI donāt want to forget..ā He whispered, burying his face in the others chest.Ā
Ā Ā Ā Having the boy all wrapped up in his arms felt too good to let any guilt in from what heād just done. The lie, what he wrote down in the book. That would haunt him, but it wasnāt like his dreams were already filled with regrets. What was one more? Instead of answering, Russel just clenched his jaw, and closed his eyes -- enjoying the moment he had with Charlie. Enjoying this moment he belongedĀ in.
Xena let out a hollar, letting go of the ropes the girl leaned back further. Letting the wind blow through her hair.Ā āGod this is so amazing!ā She called as the swing started to slow down. Stopping the swing, Xena walked over to Russ.Ā āYouāre turn.ā She said with a wiggle of her brows.Ā
Ā Ā Signature mischievous grin on his face, Russ raised his own brows with a chuckle, settling into the seat.Ā āItās been years,ā He confessed, beginning to pump his legs.Ā āSince I have done this.ā

Charlie watched Russel as he wrote, the panic in his chest starting to die down.Ā āI donāt want to forgetā¦.I canāt forget you.ā He said, his voice cracking slightly. Sure there were things Charlie wanted to forget, the bully from this morning, the mean girl from the party. But this, this was one person he didnāt want to forget. One person he wanted to love, if only he knew how.
Ā Ā Ā Moving closer slowly, and inching the book backwards on the bed as he did, Russel slid up to Charlieās side, pulling the smaller boy into him gently. He was cautious with Russ, more so than he was normally with people. A cheek rested on the dusting of dark hair and Russel gave a long sigh. He had no more joints to smoke, and he wasnāt ready to leave.Ā āYou wonāt forget me. Iām in the book.ā

When he yelled, Charlie dropped the book. Scrambling back along the bed, he pulled his knees to his chest. Trying to slow his rapid heart beat.Ā āI need to rememberā¦.ā He whispered, his eyes on the open journal. Looking up to Russel he shook his head.Ā āWhy wonāt you help me! You said you would help me!ā
Ā Ā Ā The book now for his taking, Russel felt an unnerving calm flow over him, taking the pen back in his hand.Ā āHold on,ā Russ answered with a small smile, taking in a breath before he continued, this time the writing a little less stiff, less perfect. Natural. This is Russel. He is very important. He keeps me safe. He helps me remember. I never will forget him. Russel is very important.Ā TheĀ āneedā turned into aĀ āneverā. The true message was changed, and giving another wide smile after heād finished writing, Russ closed the book. Set it to the side.Ā āDonāt worry Charlie. I wrote it down. You wonāt forget. I wrote it down, Iām in the book, itās fine.ā
Xena smiled wide as she swung. The high from the weed, mixed with the high feeling from being pushed on the swing made Xena let out a loud laugh. Leaning back, the girl looked over at Russ.Ā āI love flying!āĀ
Ā Ā As she glanced back, Russ gave a dramatic wave, also laughing as if this were the most exhilerating moment of his life. Each time Xena swung back, Russel gave her a push, sending her higher and higher on the swing.Ā āPut your arms out, shake your hair. Feel the wind!ā

He stopped writing, his eyes had caught that.Ā āW-why not? I..itās not a lie..atleast I donāt think it is.ā Charlie felt his world slowly start to fall apart, heād finally managed to do it. The boy had managed to get the one person he knew could help him remember to hate him. Quickly taking the journal and the pen back from Russel, Charlie had to finish the writing. He had to remember.Ā āNo. No! Itās not a lie! I need to remember this. I need to!ā Charlie cried, his cheeks were already wet with tears as he frantically tried to remember how the words were spelled. āI have to remember! I have to be normal!ā He screamed. Ā
Ā Ā Ā The book left Russelās fingers, and then the panic set in again.Ā āStop it,ā Russ answered, calmly at first, reaching out for the book. But Charlie was hysterical already, shaking hands and tears. The one slow beat of the dying heart in Russelās chest had gotten faster, and he tried harder to get the book back. What if Charlie wrote it down, what if everything was ruined? It couldnāt.Ā āStop it!ā

Wringing his hands slightly, the dark haired boy looked down.Ā āT-this is Russel. He is very important. He keeps me safe. He helps me remember, I need him. I love him. Russel is very important.ā
Ā Ā Ā As Charlie spoke, Russ moved slowly, taking care on each letter until everything halted to a stop -- need. Love.Ā Those words made the hair on the back of his neck stick up, and Russelās hand stopped completely.Ā āI--I canāt write this,ā Russ finally answered, half of the word needĀ written, just an n and an e. He stared down at the page, the unfinished description.Ā āIām not going to let a.. fucking lie be a memory.ā

Charlie nodded quickly. He didnāt know what else to say at the moment. He was toā¦he was to, he didnāt know what he was right now. Charlie just knew he was happy, the boy was content. For the few rare moments that he was here with Russel, Charlie was normal. Sitting back, the forgetful boy reached for his journal, shaking hands reached for the picture and a pen. Flipping the book to a blank page near the front he handed the item to Russ.Ā āWrite what I say. Alright?ā
Ā Ā Ā Grinning wildly without a clear reason, Russ took the pen and book, staring down. It was lucky his high was wearing out or his already horrible hand-writing would be entirely unreadable.Ā āYeah, go,ā Russel agreed, poising the pen over the page. Heād make it pretty. Heād make it look nice. This was important.

Charlie couldnāt remember for the life of him, if heād kissed anyone before. He knew what kissing was, and he sort of knew what it meant. But, he couldnāt recall if heād done it before. Needless to say, this was a memory Charlie would be sure to never forget. The way Russās heart beat matched his, the way their lips moved together, like an exotic dance only they could perform. The feel of the others hands on his body, each touch searing its one sort of print into his memory. Charlie had never felt more at peace with himself. Charlie had never felt so normal.Ā
Ā Ā Ā For several long, perfect minutes -- time had slowed, stopped completely. They were high, both of them, riding it out tangled up in each other. But after a while, who really knew how long, the ache of passion in Russ started to wane again, replaced with the sense of dread, and he broke the kiss. Russel wasnāt so aware of heartbeats anymore, of the heat that kept up on his face.Ā āPut my picture back in the book. Write us down. Iāll do it,ā Russel mumbled softly, leaning in close as he spoke. This had to be real, this hadĀ to be remembered. He couldnāt get lost again.
āWell, with that head of hair, Iād say you qualify as aĀ āpretty ladyā.ā Xena teased before sticking a joint between her lips. Lighting it as she sat on the swing she took a long drag.Ā āWell, you gonna push me or not?ā
Ā Ā Ā āAw, thank you. That means so much,ā Russel smiled with a laugh, flipping his hair around before taking a seat behind her. Grabbing the ropes and stepping backwards until they were pulled taunt, he let go, sending Xena wooshing forward.Ā āFly, girl. Fly away.ā

When Russ had started to cuss, the boy started to tense. Was he doing something wrong. It all felt so right for it to be wrong. Charlie hesitated for a moment, his hands coming up to rest on Russelās chest. He was about to push back, when the the other returned his advances. They were here, high on life, on high on, whatever was in that white tube. The boy just felt high, and he loved it. Long pale fingers knotted Russelās shirt. Afraid that if he let go of the boy, this whole experience would vanish, and he wouldnāt be able to even remember it.Ā
Ā Ā Ā The slow beating of their hearts in chests pressed together mixed up, making one thump. In this moment, Russ didnāt feel alone. Heād kissed so many people over his years, especially in the time he spent homeless. But there was a comfort in this kiss, a certain sense of belonging. It made him ache, his bones finally feeling the pain of all heād bottled up. Charlie was remembering, right now. He had him in his hands, and he was leaning back now, pulling Charlie with him so he scooted across the bed until Russelās back hit the wall. He couldnāt pull Charlie close enough, there wasnāt enough space that couldnāt be closed.

Ā Ā The gentle force of Charlieās lips on Russelās hit somewhere in the ruffian, and his hands went to Charlieās shoulders. For a moment, it was like he couldnāt breath. A minute ago, heād lost this precious boy. There was no recognition, no redemption in his blue eyes -- now, heād come to him. To Russel. Maybe Kat couldnāt come back, but Charlie could. And that was what mattered to Russ. āShit, shit,ā Russ mumbled against the others lips, everything in him swelling. Something was hurting his eyes, stinging behind closed lids. It was tears. āShit,ā Russ mumbled one last time before forcing thought away, a hand slowly going up to the dark hair, gentle and tender, like all of this would shatter in an instant if he moved too fast.
