Don't ask, just accept it. Orc Choppa from Atelier-Nemesis.com
Leather: Just Some Comissions
I haven't posted here in FOREVER. First off, if you aren't already, like me on facebook.
http://www.facebook.com/blackmarketarmory
Secondly, here are a couple of recent pieces. This is a leaf pouch I made for a friend, just a progress shot though. This one was pretty challenging because of all the leaf ridges, but I love the way it came out.
Its not pictured here, but the outer edge is all one piece of leather. I actually carved the bottom of the leaf and stem out and used a paint brush to color it differently than the rest.
And this is just a sword frog I made for another friend of mine.
I've adopted the crossed axes as my brand stamp. Not sure why, I just like them.
Cheers!
Leather: Getting there...
So sheers wern't cutting it. They're pretty good for around 4oz leather... but useless against 8-10oz (which is what I've got). So instead, I'm arming myself with an exacto knife. It takes longer, but the result is much better.
Second attempt. The only photoshop effects used here were to adjust some of the levels... make the image a little more vibrant.
A co-worker of mine introduced me to something today called New Aesthetic / Glitch. It's a movement in art right now... bringing digital defects and randomness to the real world. Here's my first stab at it. I may not have been completely loyal to the style ( glitched a file, then edited in photoshop ), but I still love the way it came out.
Its reminiscent of a flower in the midst of a storm.
Leather: Thick as Hell!
I didn't realize how... physical making leather armor is. It's hard work!
Let's backtrack a little here. I'm a sort of tank/barbarian build for my larp character. I neeeed more armor. So I figured I'd give Lamellar a try. So I ordered the tools and some scrap veg tanned leather from Ebay, figuring it would be cheaper. There's a reason why it much cheaper. The stuff is about 1/8th inch thick! Not to mention I didn't get appropriate cutting tools for something that thick. Big sheers, although awesome, aren't gonna cut the mustard.
I've been hacking away for a couple of hours. I think I may have 8 individual plates done. That's IT!
More updates at some point.
Chainmail: Protect Your Mead
New product available from the Black Market Armory! If you're in a more RP based LARP, immersion is pretty important. You can't lug around Gatorade bottles. But, everyone does the drinking skins / horns.
So I decided to switch it up a little.
Now available at the Black Market Armory.
From a crafting point of view, I started this out similar to the chainmail bag. It's just a standard 4 in 1 weave, with one link reduction row to curve at the top of the bottle.
Chainmail: The Seal
Wax seal son! Black Market Armory is legit!
The level of win in this photo is immeasurable.
What can you do when you’re stuck for ideas and lost for a place to seek out inspiration? It turns out that a great, tried‒and‒true way to discover new, creative ideas is to free associate.
Basically viewing a random image, watching a video, reading a phrase, or doing something…
Tons of hits on The Thinkerbot today. Love seeing my app take off. Exciting!
Chainmail: Flower Sheet
So the last post I made had a keychain with mobius knots strung together. I thought it had the possibility to look really cool in sheet form.
Its basically a japanese 2/4 weave, but each center hub is a mobius knot. It looks awesome, thought its flexibility is limited. As far as I've seen, this hasn't been done before. I might be onto something new here.
*Update*
So the weave isn't as original as I thought. Just found this on Etsy.

Chainmail: Bits and Bobs
Just been keeping busy filling items into my new Etsy store. Here's some things.
My first try at a chain pouch. It went mostly well, but not well enough to make it a store staple. Selling it off for $15 bucks.
Mobius Knot Keychain. This is my first time trying this weave. Its really fun and fairly easy. I'd love to do a piece of armor with this weave, maybe for a mage.

Chainmail: The Black Market Armory
After finishing up the personal pieces I wanted, I sort of got bored. No reason to make maille if I don't need any. Unless... I open an Etsy store!
So now you can buy from the Black Market Armory. I'm only selling my maille gloves through there right now, but more products on the way.

Caplet, maybe 90% of the way there. I have to figure out what to do with the bottom part.
The Thinkerbot!
This is a little tool I've been working on on and off over the course of a few months. My bosses at NAIL tasked me to make an inspiration generator. They wanted it to be either completely passive or require very little work to operate.
So this is what I made:
It pulls information from Flickr and Youtube (Either Pictures, Video, or Audio) and displays them. You can click the navigation to do either one item at a time, or you can click the timer and let it iterate through the choices for you every 30 seconds.
