Ruzan Petrosyan-Red Apple
Ruzan Petrosyan- Red Apple
Description:
There is a tradition in Armenia called Red Apple. It symbolizes the virginity of a young girl. On the first night of marriage, if the girl is a virgin, the husband's parents send a red apple to the girl's parents. they entertain the neighbors in order to inform about the virginity and purity of their daughter. That tradition seems to be out of time, but it still exists in the villages today. Today's brave generation is fighting against that tradition. In 2008, a Swiss feminist artist filmed a group of activist girls from the Armenian Women's Resource Center, where the girls were handing out red apples to people.
As well as shouting the lines written on the sign: "we are not a doormat".
I used pieces of that video from the archive, edited, changed, as well as the part where I eat a red apple and pass by the bridal shop, and throw the apple on the ground near the bride's dress. my performance was a protest against the red apple tradition on the first night of the wedding, I approached it with sarcasm while eating the apple. it was a delicious fruit to me, not a symbol of a girl's virginity
Ruzan Petrosyan- Escape( experimental video)
Bob Dylan says: no one is free, even the birds are chained in the sky. we are chained by our thoughts, our desires, the people around us, our memories, culture, religion... inside each of us there is a bird imprisoned, which always wants to escape, to be freed, to get out. we are looking for a way to run away from our thoughts, dreams, ourselves, the world, our fears. where, we don't know. to freedom. A girl is like a bird in self-search. You meet yourself in search of escape, and you will not escape from yourself.
I read Bukowski's poem "The Bluebird", it's so similar to this state of mind desire to get out of it all. sometimes we feel the need to escape. And one of the means of escape is running, movement. it is therapy. The castles are fenced, they look like cages, the girl is running in the castle, looking for a way to escape. I made the video in Salzburg.
Ruzan Petrosyan Salzburg says mp4
Each city has its own character, its own word. As you walk, you read different posts. The people of Salzburg already know these writings, but not me. What the city is talking about?
I photographed the posters in German and English, the graffiti, and made abstract poetry out of them. What does Salzburg say?… Every day on my way to the castle I found a small heart on the ground. I decided to collect them. I thought in my mind: this is the hearth of Salzburg, which I will take with me, to come back again!
Play at Home:
When your chances are slim and you are alone in a room with four walls, you need to create, as, the phone is the only way. I shot during the quarantine, when a coronavirus epidemic broke out around the world and people were forced to close their homes. When I returned from Germany to Armenia and didn’t take my camera with me. A month later, I had to return to Germany to continue working on my art project. But because of quarantine, I stayed in my country. I was alone at home, I didn't have any filming equipment, I only had my phone. On my birthday so that I wouldn't feel alone, I decided to draw my guests. I chose them according to the current situation, because every day on TV I saw the President of France, the Chancellor of Germany, and the Prime Minister of Armenia, the Minister of Health of Armenia, who were talking about the pandemic. The Armenian commandant talked every day about the restrictions on leaving the house. It was reported that Germany was providing 5,000 euros in support to the artists. Afterwards, there were heated discussions about the absence of the head of the Civil Aviation Authority of Armenia from the country. As for Ryan Air's flight to Armenia ... we saw all this every day on TV and on Facebook. There was talk of social support, but the artists were off the list. So I decided to have a meeting at the same table between them and the artists on my birthday. I really got into that role and I saw a great preparation for my birthday, I celebrated the day well. I really liked that idea, I celebrated all the other holidays coming the same way. Then I decided to make a movie with my phone. This video is about not feeling alone during quarantine, dreaming mentally, the desire is to stage through art. That we don’t appreciate what we have, and what we don't have, we stage. Staying at home, I relived my childhood games and decided to play at home, this time through art.
The title of the video installation is taken from Leonard Cohen's famous song "Waiting for the miracle".
Our life is waiting, everyone is waiting, the life of an artist is more. In addition to everyday expectations, the artist is also waiting for big changes in art, values, maybe a miracle... What is the reality of the artist today, what problems does he face in art? Many artists, not adapting to reality, try to settle in another country, trying to find themselves in a different reality, culture. And what is it like, is it like the previous one? Or is it just an escape? Artists of different nationalities and ethnic backgrounds from different countries speak about it separately in their native language. In fact, they were supposed to be in front of the camera, but because of the coronavirus, when the border closed, I spoke to them on Zoom. They answer two questions sitting in profile - What is my reality in my birthplace, in my current place of residence? And the third question, what am I waiting for, sitting in front of it.
Ruzan Petrosyan- Here's my station
Description: This was my first flight since 2019 from Armenia to Austria, Salzburg, after almost two years of quarantine, when the borders finally opened! So, I didn’t want to do anything, just to enjoy my freedom, to appreciate the moment of that opportunity. Enjoy the city streets! These are the buildings that everyone in Salzburg takes pictures of, admires. I pass through all the buildings: Salzburg Cathedral-Dom, Mozart's birth house, beautiful buildings where people live.. I dance in all the rooms, and of course, in the end, my station is the beautiful castle of the heights and the building of the Salzburg International Summer Academy of Fine Arts where passed my days.

Nothing prevents you from creating a work of art, even the distance, both social and physical. The internet allows everything in the 21st century, you can videotape, communicate online, especially recently during the pandemic, online communication has become relevant, poetic lines about distance performance in zoom. We did the same, from a distance it is so impressive that’s like we are in the same room the voice responds in space. words lines about space and distance.SHOW LESS
Description: We can see art in everything, make art from everything. We use poetry, song, music, dance to make it more influential in a film, creating art from one art to another. Leonard Cohen's song "I am your man", first I translated it into Armenian, then I wrote it on my dress. The song became poetry, then words, then a play on words, then he walked with me, appearing in an experimental video. Let's take a walk!

Video about of human’s right. It is also about human discrimination, sex, advantages and disadvantages. People from different nationalities express oneself her emotions, have their rights and they speak to the world in front of the camera their own language and say what rights each one has.
I used the citation Emily Dickinson's poem “Who are You”. We often ask and listen this question. So that we know who we are? People of different nationalities respond in their own language and ask each other: Who are You?
It’s a three-part photo story in different situations. This is a self-video. She is separated in her corner and tries to play in front of the camera. She is alone with his emotions and doesn't notice the camera. She is silent, but the facial expressions, movements, the body say everything. It’s not enough for a person to know only to know his name. You should try to recognize her inside, story. She said: “You Know My Name, Not My Story!”

Our soul is exquisite and fragile and must be in harmony with the body.
Description: Micro Expression happens when people have hidden their feelings from themselves or when they deliberately try to conceal their feelings from others. Emotions play a key roll in all of our interactions. They are all people like us, they live next to us, our friends, neighbors, a traveler, a foreigner, protesting demonstrators: one can be very fragile, but it seems strong, and the other is the opposite, one it seems simple and primitive, the other is a profound philosopher. So, what is the human mind? Can you to read? Try it! Peoples from different nationalities silently show their emotions and feelings:one with one word, another with a long mind.
