he watches baohui connect his earphones in silence “ …it’s okay. just be careful. ” chen clears his throat, frowning to himself at the flash of irritation he suddenly feels. “ um. are you done for today? ”

Honestly, he wanted to just disappear right there, he felt so embarrassed. “I was taking a short break,” Baohui said, closing his phone and setting it aside.

“i think, at this point, we might as well have dorms in china and in korea,” junxi commented, suppressing a giant yawn. “i know we’re never in china for more than a couple months at a time, but think about it– we go there enough. and wouldn’t travel be way less stressful if we just had our own rooms and didn’t have to worry about hotel accommodations sucking?” @chenrv​ @rvquin​ @rvbaohui​

“Less stressful for us, but it would probably more stressful for them to maintain it?” Baohui mused aloud. “Honestly, though... I think I’d prefer just having our own dorm in China too. I don’t care if I’m a pro at packing, living out of a suitcase is so not fun.”

“i got asked in an interview yesterday about how new age chooses who’s in what unit, and i feel bad, because i just froze,” raein said, rubbing the back of his neck. “i have no idea what’s going on– do you think new age knows what’s going on?” @rvroyi​ @rvsangmin​ @sangheerv​ @chenrv​ @rvbaohui​ @rvquin​

“You know, sometimes I’m not sure they do know what’s going on - they probably throw darts to decide what we’re doing, it’s so random sometimes,” Baohui said.

“hey, i think scope blue and byulbit antares are going to be in china at the same time this month!” tiwi gushed, checking the schedule her manager sent her on her phone once more to be sure. “we should get some of our groups together and do something fun! we could take pictures for fansites too if we really wanted to, but i think it could be cool bonding! you know, both super groups’ mandarin units and all~” @chenrv​ @rvbaohui​

“We definitely should! I don’t think we’ve had any overlap before so it could be a good time,” Baohui said with a grin.

“ um, baohui?” chen starts but stops, hesitating, pressing his lips together in a small uncomfortable gesture. “ listen, i— i don't mean to be rude, but i'm trying to practice right now and what you’re doing is very distracting. ” he addressed as he eyed at the other member of kaleidoscope carefully. @rvbaohui

Baohui had taken a brief break from his own practicing to look at a video someone had sent to him - he had his earbuds popped in so he wouldn’t bother anyone with the sound so he admittedly was confused that he was being confronted. Before he looked down and realized that the earbuds were not in fact plugged in to the phone.”Oh god,” he said, pausing the video and plugging the earbuds back in. “I’m sorry, I have no idea how I didn’t realize sooner.”

“exactly. and i mean, look at terra! they barely had time to bond, some of them, what with being added to the group on a whim without training together,” he pointed out. “they started awkward and look at them now! maybe it’s just a company thing. we have to pay our dues or something.”

“Yeah, I guess you’re right... I don’t think I would’ve guessed Nat hadn’t met the rest of them from seeing them together now, they all seem super tight,” Baohui said, then shrugging. “Maybe... I guess it’s just a hurdle we all have to get over.”

“you made the right choice,” sanghee encouraged with a grin. “we’re kind of known as the dance company. now you’re gonna end up being a slash-level amazing dancer,” he insisted teasingly.

“God, one can only hope,” Baohui said with a laugh. “We’ll need that for these routines they have us doing, some of them have been bonkers.”

“there’s an old urban legend that every tiem idol project has an elimination, four more people are added to our dorm….” sangmin joked, snorting. “i’m surprised they haven’t done that already! like, other groups usually partner with other companies for foreign distribution. i think it’s a testament to the pull new age really has that they haven’t had to do that…” he shrugged. “i like the new dorm building, though. it’s a lot bigger. and it’s nice that we can hang out with the byulbit members too…”

“Experts say there’s no correlation between these two things, but we just aren’t positive yet,” Baohui said with a laugh. “I like it, too. Almost got lost trying to find the way back to my room the first night, though...  but yeah, it’s cool that we can hang out with them. When they’re around, anyway.”

“well, i mean– i bet you could if you were so good at twisting things that you’re basically a scan artist. but i don’t know enough about any of that to really say,” sunjoo shrugged. “well, i mean, i guess that’s smart. might as well debut the popular ones who everyone know first.”

“Can’t say I know enough about that, myself,” Baohui responded. “Yeah, that’s what I was thinking. They get debuted first and it helps build a stable fanbase for the rest of the group. At least, I hope that’s the case.”

“it’s different there too, though. like…i don’t know how much  you’ve talked to rosie, but she’s happy,” mengxia commented. “like….she’s in her comfort zone, and she’s happy just being there. and biyi too– she seems like she’s just excited to be in a group again. new age totally has it’s faults, but it’s a lot better than i think most people realize.”

“I haven’t really talked to her much,” Baohui admitted sheepishly. “But I definitely understand. Getting to be there with the group is great -- just being part of the dance practice for Black on Black was one of the most exciting things that I’ve gotten to do. And I appreciate New Age taking chances.”

“after i got eliminated, i stopped caring and paying attention,” she retorted bluntly. “all of it was so stupid regardless- it wasn’t worth my energy and time anymore.”

“I guess there’s not really a point in keeping track of it when you’re out of the competition,” Baohui mused. “The show is entertaining, but... really, it all looks extremely overwhelming. Did they invite you guys to come, or did Liberty have to apply on their own to be there?”

“oh definitely. it’s different elsewhere, but at new age, it’s a lot nicer when everyone’s together,” junxi said. maybe that’s why new age’s groups ended up so big– all the trainees just vibed so well together. “that’s super kindof you to say, thank you! i was surprised the show even let me on, let alone everything that happened afterwards. i still don’t think i’ve processed it all.”

“For sure, it feels like there’s a lot more camaraderie here, at least in my experience,” Baohui said. He had friends at Liberty, sure, but the groups being smaller bred a lot more competition. “You’re welcome! It’s cool that mnet took a chance, they should do it more I think... “

“white is the big teaser unit! my mom said anyone who’s in that unit is gonna be in some unit somewhere,” raein enthused. “if it’s going to be as big as byulbit, they’re going to need us!”

“Well, here’s hoping, right?” Baohui said. He was pretty much starting from scratch, so he didn’t expect it to happen soon. “I wonder how many units there’s going to end up being for Scope, because Byulbit already has a ton...” he mused.

“maybe it….builds character?” he offered, laughing

“Sure, I’ll buy it,” Baohui laughed. “It’s like those trust exercises.”

“the fact that going to idol project felt less crowded says a lot,” sangmin snorted. he loved new age, but staying at the creed dorms was nice. he got a lot more space. “i wonder when new age is going to hit their breaking point…”

“It probably got less crowded by the week, considering how the show was. Seems to be the complete opposite here,” Baohui laughed. “I think they sort of did already, moving us to the new dorm building and all... I wonder if they’re going to have to create sub-sub-labels for Byulbit eventually.”

“i can imagine,” sanghee said with a nod. “we learn… different skills,” he laughed. “it must be so hard, going from a company with no dance, to the dance company.”

“It’s definitely hard, but... I’m still glad that I moved here. Dancing is all I wanted to do for a long time, it’s good to finally be somewhere I can go all in on it,” Baohui said.

“I feel like the only time i can sleep is prepping for schedules? like while i’m getting my hair or makeup done and they don’t like that either; so at night i’ve been trying to take melatonin.. which is why i forgot to wash my face but.. still to be scolded because i’m not getting enough sleep is dumb. i’m happy to debut but i’m still a human being, you know?”

“I guess I can see why they wouldn’t like it--there’s probably a risk of makeup getting ruined. It’s a little ridiculous that they’d scold you for forgetting to wash your face or sleeping... they’re not your dermatologist. Is it the same one working with you a lot?“
