“i don’t know if you’ve talked to jaehee recently, but you should reach out. you have a lot in common,” ilyoon commented, looking up at haena over the steam of his latte. “of course, don’t if it would be too much for you. i don’t want you putting yourself in upsetting positions. i just think you two have some....similar traumas.” @haenarv
“i was sent to watch the new group practice, offer advice and all but...i was under the impression there were a few more members in daybreak,” he admitted with a little laugh, looking at the empty studio. “did this become a solo venture while i was away hosting idol project?” @rvchibin
“i saw the premiere of your new drama last week,” ilyoon began, shooting kyuyeol a tiny smile. “you know....you aren’t nearly as tall on tv. they say the camera adds 10 lbs, but it seems to remove 5 inches too...” @rvkyuyeol
“it must have been somewhat surreal to see your daughter on the show, in a special guest vicinity. how old is she, now? fifteen or so?” he asked, musing aloud. “all of your kids have grown up so fast. i’m impressed with how talented they all seem to be so young. though, i suppose i shouldn’t be--they have good genes.” @rvjinkyung
“i just wanted to touch base. i wasn’t really allowed to intervene as a mentor, but...well, i could tell you were going through it,” he admitted, looking back at jaehee once they were done ordering. “how are you holding up?” @rvjaehee
“if i say something weird, please don’t hesitate to correct me,” jina said with a wry smile, adjusting her phone that was open to voice memos and brushing invisible dust of her notebook. “i’m used to interviewing wrestlers, not idols. but i’m excited to be able to sit down with you today~”
“i’m sure it won’t be that big of a deal,” he assured her, adjusting his sleeves and getting comfortable in his seat at the table, across from her. “i’m looking forward to this, too-- i haven’t done much, press or career, since idol project. it’s nice to explore that all a little more.”
“it’s so cool hearing songs come out that i did the topline and demo for,” seulki said with a grin, scrolling through the new releases on her phone. “like… i know how the song is going to go, but i get to discover it through someone else’s voice and hear how they put their spin on it. i feel like i make coloring books, and now i get to see how people interpret the lines.”
“what do you like more-- this, or deviant?” he asked curiously. “like surely having your own songs is nice but... there’s so much opportunity to explore concepts here, no? am i way off base?”

[ you’re probably right. i just have so much dread before i go to a therapist. it’s not healthy but it’s so much easier to just compartmentalize. ]
he sighed. he got it, unfortunately. he understood. gently taking her hand and squeezing, he looked her in the eye. “well... i’m no professional, but you know i’m always here to listen, right? i may not have solutions, but i have time to listen.”

[ i was mostly joking. of course i got a ton of therapy when everything happened… i haven’t gone in a couple years, which is probably a mistake, but i haven’t felt like i needed it ]
“well..... i can’t tell you what to do, nor am i in any place to decide how your metal state is for you. but it could be good to go back. sometimes you don’t thank you need something until it’s too late.”

the woman laughed, rolling her eyes
[ maybe i just need to be in therapy ]
“haena, honey, if you’re not already in therapy, it’s something you should probably look into,” he laughed, rolling his eyes right back.
“there’s nothing more frustrating than knowing the name of something, but having to call it something stupid,” meilin sighed dramatically, adjusting her ponytail. “like doing a back extension roll with an extra kick to take out someone’s legs, but having it be called something ridiculous like the equalizer? i think it’s going to be the death of me.”
“okay.... what’s a back extension roll though. i feel like i’d be able to weigh in more if i knew what you were talking about, but all i’m thinking about is dinner rolls.”

she sighed.
[ how do you manage to stay so positive despite absolutely everything? it’s a skill i need to learn ]
“it’s all how you talk to yourself. inner dialogue,” ilyoon replied. “and it’s hard. it takes a long time. but the more you retrain yourself to be kind, the softer and more generous your general outlook is.”
haenarv:
[ don’t they? haven’t you of all people seen the worst of this industry, ilyoon? ]
“i have. you know i have. but focusing on just the people who have done me wrong, instead of the thousands of people who have been there for me and have helped me on my way? seems silly.”
hyorv:
“both my dogs are good dogs. the best dogs, actually. really proud of them for just goin out there every day and being the best…”
“they’re clearly just following suit after their owner-- you’re a role model.”

“I can’t imagine being a soloist myself, that would be so weird,” Baohui said. “But yeah, I’m pretty sure it’s going to be a big group – I’ve gotten to know a couple of the guys a little but I’m still awkward with them.”
“that’s the thing about these idol groups, though-- since you dorm together and have to spend so much time working together to prepare for a debut, and when you do debut you spend so much time together, you’ll get to know each other pretty fast.”
hyorv:
“yeah, exactly! he’s really well behaved, though. like he’s nuts, but he’s house trained and not destructive and has never bitten or nipped me or anything, so i’m optimistic.”
“those are all the important pieces! seems like you have a good dog on your hands.”
haenarv:
[ i would certainly hope so, but you never know. maybe she just has really good connections. or the intelligence to be careful about who she acts a fool around. ]
“now, don’t be pessimistic. i’d like to think she’s probably just a bit naive and clueless. not everyone has terrible intentions,” ilyoon teased.
