Behold my rainworld AU. I call it the voidborn au because a large chunk of the plot is moved along by, or revolving around the voidborn (Saint, Watcher, Enocht, and Martyr)

There's also the iterator M.O.T.H., who, after learning the truth of the void, tries to find another way to kill iterators, and starts making creatures specifically to do just that. And then he let's them loose.

The Night.

Nightcat sat in front of a karma flower, thousands upon millions of thoughts running throughout her head. The rot, the void, strands of golden silk, pain, loss...

She remembered the echo, what was their name? They had seen her for what she was, a being beyond time. They taught her to manipulate the cycle, to bend the line.

She remembered the golden worm, it's eyes as pale as her own. It helped her (or maybe she helped it?) To close the line into a circle.

She remembered the king of decay, a flawed mimicry of the artificial gods before. She helped him, willingly or not, she didn't remember, to spread his disease into the worlds. An ever expanding spiral.

I've always thought hunter had some kind of skin strap on their back given to them by nsh that they use to hold their spears

I'm surprised I've never seen anyone else with a similar idea

It's always gross icky downpour hunter stabbing it into rot cysts on it's back which always sounded extremely painful and impractical to me

The idea is interesting but the rot cysts being how they hold the spear seems to be canon since vanilla rather than dp

Taking the sleep screen into consideration where a large rot cyst is present on their back with no other clear way for a spear to be held present. This is mostly just me extrapolating from incomplete data, your idea sounds interesting and could lead to more detailed Hunter designs

Though my thought with 'the skin strap' idea was that the rot would still be in the way of it, making it kind of useless

An interesting thought with 'the stabbing the spear through the rot' idea would be that it could have not caused physical harm to Hunter (that would be some weird in-world explanation that differentiates from interpretation to interpretation)

Another (in-world) idea is that stabbing it would slow down the growth, that's my personal favourite in-world/lore writing thing that I include in my AUs

Hunter has a very prominent x shaped scar on their left leg that also appears in other art

Also vanilla hunter does NOT have rot. They are a creature acting against their place in the ecosystem and thus has become karmically imbalanced

This is stated in the original kickstarter post regarding the hunter

The karmic imbalance makes so much more sense and just adds onto the intricate way the game depicts Buddhism

Buddhists do not eat meat. So Hunter being a prey animal that has now transitioned into a predator, defying their role in the ecosystem is now being punished for breaking the delicate balance

That's way more interesting than the rot in Downpour

Perhaps if people really wanted to include the rot they could say that the karmic imbalance caused it? That's moreso if someone were to really like the rot in dp though

Survivor: actually, you don't need to kill the vulture to get it's mask. All you need is a good throw to hit it in the face and the mask'll just fall off. Though avoiding it's counterattack would be quite difficult.

Monk: And the mask would only scare away the lizards you're trying to tame! So that's probably not the best idea.
