Y'know, being in the fandom for as long as I have, you'd think I'm capable of being able to handle seeing shit takes in a proper and respectful manner.
That is not the case when the take is so fucking horrendous and outright WRONG that i feel like pulling my hair out just reading this.
SO. I do not have tiktok myself, but I do have a friend that does. And, today, they sent me this screenshot;
And, sure, you could argue "The tags say shitpost! They're not being serious!"
Even if that's the case, they're being a blatant liar, and they're continuing to lie within the comments.
"I don't remember exactly but I think it was a QnA." If you cannot even verify for certain, why speak as though you know it all?
Upon being sent these, I went on a little hunt. Was Yoruko's sexuality ever really confirmed? Because I do not believe it was. So, the very first thing I did was go to LINUJ's tistory page, in which he speaks on all of the characters all the time, and then I found the character setting story for Yoruko Kabuya. And, sure, you could argue that since I am using google to translate, this may not all be accurate, but i would like to put forward this statement from LINUJ regarding her;
Specifically, the part reading "There have been quite a few people asking about Kabuya's sexual orientation via email... I have, and will continue to, remain silent on this issue. In a way, this is an open question.
This applies not only to Kabuya, but also to other characters. When I create a character, I don't consider their sexual identity. While aspects like Kabuya's might emerge as the story progresses, I generally avoid such detailed characterizations.
I fundamentally respect all gender identities. I think I've said something similar before, but when a creator explicitly defines a certain character, I think it's like crushing the imagination of consumers."
So, yes; you can view her as Bisexual. Nobody can stop you from viewing Yoruko Kabuya as Bisexual. However, do NOT go around complaining of Bi Erasure when the common interpretation is different from your own.
Yoruko Kabuya is viewed as a lesbian due to her mannerisms in canon. Many lesbians connect and relate to her, and it's extremely easy to read her feelings towards Sora as romantic.
Now, for the QnA they mentioned-- i managed to track down a remnant of it. The QnA they were discussing? The one from the now lost evernote-- even with the bookmarked link, it will not load. So, relying on a reddit post, google translated, I will put something down in their Favor;
"Kabuya is said to be closer to bisexual among the three."
So, yes, some could say LINUJ confirmed her sexuality here. Some could argue "Bi Erasure!" once more. But, nonetheless, it is important to acknowledge both statements from LINUJ;
Yoruko's sexuality is undefined. The most we know of it is that it's "Closer to bisexual." And, in canon, she is shown to be Extremely Sapphic. Even in the statement from the evernote, it is not entirely for certain.
And I am saying that, not to go "Oh!! oh!! Bisexual people, the sin! The tragedy!" I am saying that due to the wording. It could very well have been caused by the google translation, which is known to be inherently untrustworthy, but "is said to be closer" is a phrasing that rings uncertainty. I would argue it could be read as "Could be viewed as closer to bisexual", but I am not certain myself. I just know the wording feels uncertain to read.
So why did I make this post? I made this post because the creator of the aforementioned tiktok has previously described Yoruko as a character lacking substance; a character whose only defining trait is "Quirky Lesbian."
I went on a long, long, rant regarding this statement. It can be read here, with an ending addition from another person.
The aforementioned user's hatred of Yoruko is so utterly stupid that it rang of misinformation the moment my eyes fell upon those words. It rang of poor research as I read their comments, as though they couldn't even be so much as bothered to confirm their own words, for they despised a character that much.
I read their words, and it spoke to me of wanting to be right, but not daring to do research. It spoke of the old fandom, in which misinformation such as "Mikako Kurokawa poisoned herself!" ran rampant and unchecked. It spoke of a lack of care and passion for the duology, as true care and passion would show duly research and investigation.
This is not true love of a story nor characters, for you can even appreciate a character you despise. This is trying to be right for the sake of others having to admit it, so you might hold it above their heads in a little parade.
This is the immature desperation to be smug, when you really are only causing harm and making others feel worse, all while doing nothing but standing and going "WELL! i'm not sure but it's true!" instead of saying "I could be wrong, but i do believe I remember this being said."
If one is to be right in their uncertainty, they must first admit that they could be wrong.
To conclude; this person could be right and could be wrong, but their words are half-baked and full of ignorance. This person could be a fan, but not enough so to consume all statements LINUJ makes. This person could be a fan, but until the day they recognize a character for being beyond one thing, they will never truly be able to call themselves one.
That is my opinion, at least.
honestly i think this was just a big ramble that was probably all over the place. i'm dealing with killer stomach cramps rn chat please help me I canNOT think straight.
