hello everybody! I am so sorry for losing my muse as I did. I will admit Aella has not totally returned to me yet, but I hope she'll be able to soon. I offer my sincerest apologies to those who I had threads with but they got but on hold due to my lack of muse.
out-of-feathers: my apologies for not being here much. after seeing the new movie sequel to the series my primary muse is from, aella has been relatively squished in comparison, and thereby not giving me much to work with.
I will attempt drafts (3) when I have a suitable muse for them…I dislike forcing myself to reply to something, because I value the heart I put into my replies over actually getting a reply out.

Mutant School 101
Kitty was pleased when the other seemed to start smiling back. It wasn’t huge or anything, but even the small sign made the young brunette grin, glad to see that her partner wasn’t one of those that would completely close up and not talk at all. Not that Kitty hated those kinds of kids, but it made her feel bad when she couldn’t ease the other enough to even just talk to her. She just liked making sure everyone felt good.
Adjusting the backpack on her shoulders, she pursed her lips and tilted her head as the other looked at her. Yellow eyes… wow. At first, she would admit they surprised her, only because she hadn’t noticed them at first, but she quickly adjusted. Plenty of kids had some different looks about them. It also seemed that yellow eyes were the girl’s only noticeable aspect. The way the trench coat bulged a bit told her as much.
”That sounds great! Picnic it is, then! C’mon, we can hit the kitchen first and then go snag the blanket," she decided, thinking they should head out now, but the girl’s introduction instantly stopped her. Placing her feet together, she laughed sheepishly. "Oh, yeah, oops! I’m Katherine. But everyone around here calls me Kitty.”
Taking the other’s hand, she gripped it firmly and shook. With a bouncing smile, she then turned and started to lead the way off, already trying to decide what snacks they should grab.
The smile grew more relaxed, and a bit larger as her partner voiced enthusiasm for her idea. Looks like suggesting it hadn't been dumb after all. She never knew what sort of people she would come across - for all Aella knew, her partner (who soon introduced herself as 'Kitty') could have seen the idea of a picnic as dull, or simply something that didn't strike her fancy.
Aella took off at a light jog to keep up with Kitty after she spun around to lead the way. Following somebody who had been here longer than herself (or so she assumed) would be beneficial...she'd already almost gotten lost trying to find the classroom. "D'you think there's anything like peanuts? Or some kind of nut?" the girl questioned, unsure of what the school's kitchen had in store. "Sounds really weird to say, I guess, but I really like salty things!" Most people would go after something sour or bitter - too much salt generaly drove them away.
Luckily for Kitty, it took very little for Aella to begin opening up to people. So long as she felt at least somewhat comfortable and welcome, she'd let her true colors show in no time.
"Don't just give me the salt shaker, though..." her tone gained an edge of humorous laughter. "That would just be too much."
She let her eyes wander as she was led through the halls, keeping pace with her partner easily. Soon, her eyes fell upon what looked to be a closet that one student was sorting linens into. "Hey - is that where we'd get the picnic blanket?"
Not Alone
Particularly loud thoughts are always the ones that startle Charles, even when he’s working to block out the thoughts around him so that he can work. The thoughts that are the loudest, he finds, are the ones that are not meant to be heard. The ones that people try to hide are the ones that seem to scream, since they are the ones bothering them the most. This girl who’s just arrived on his property does not want anyone to know what she is, and that she hasn’t got a place to rest. She wants to hide, and Charles is a firm believer in helping people like her so they don’t have to.
Charles doesn’t think that going outside will be the best way to approach her— after all, he can’t exactly chase her down if she decides to run, can he?— so instead he projects into her mind his voice, trying to speak gently so she won’t scare.
’ —Aella? My name is Charles Xavier, and I’m a mutant like you. You’re at my school. If you would come inside, we could bandage up your wounds and talk about you perhaps joining my school for g i f t e d youngsters. ‘
When running for what could potentially be one's life, for a guarantee to see morning, even if not being chased, you can very easily fail to take in your surroundings, being so focused on simply running and the path ahead of you. That said, even eyes like hers didn't take in the surroundings she sprinted through in this situation. Her mind simply focused on one thing - shelter. From there she could tend to her injuries - those accumulated within the past week from when she last tended to any injuries she'd gathered on the run. She could also eat something. She'd needed to steal dry fruit and mix it with trail mix in order to keep moving.
Of course it didn't set well with her.
She'd altered her path slightly to veer toward the right when thoughts, which were not her own, entered her mind.
The startled teen froze in her tracks, able to hear what was inside her head more clearly than her own heartbeat or breath.
Charles?
Aella wondered if she was, suddenly, going insane. First what happened to her body, now this? Had the voice she heard whenever she thought gained some sense of individuality or sentience?
...how...how do you know my name? She felt a new wave of fear - this one spurred by uncertainty - hit her. Who are you? How are you in my head? Those questions flooded over, the word he'd used...'mutant', though alarming, had taken a temporary back-seat.
I thought this place was abandoned. That's what it looked like. Who are you? Why are you here, too?
In spite of herself, she felt the instinct to take some kind of shelter overcome her, and she turned slightly, facing what looked to be the main entrance before running to the door. She hesitated, though, once she touched the handle.
...are you sure it's safe?
Mutant School 101
Ethics was one of her favorite classes while also being one of her least favorite. She had other classes she preferred much more favorably, but she still loved the deep discussions that could come from this sort of a class. Especially when her power was used by so many politicians these days for why mutant registration should be a thing.
You fall through a wall accidentally one time and suddenly you’re in the news. Okay, your ability was in the news. No one had figured out it was her, it was all strangers who had suddenly seen her just disappear randomly, so she was lucky in that regard. However, that didn’t stop people of high authority from bringing up the strange story of “the little girl in Illinois who can walk through walls!”
Kitty could hardly wait for that to be brought up in class. Hopefully no one would laugh at her for having lost control and causing that to happen to begin with.
Sitting near the front, she bit her lip as she scrawled notes. When the new girl came in, she hardly glanced up at first. New students weren’t exactly a rare occurrence these days. And she had hardly been at the school, only a couple months. But more and more mutants kept popping up, it seemed.
At the assignment, the brunette perked her head up, listening with interest. Okay, not bad. She could do something like this. Sheesh, her abilities would be plain and simple. People told her every day how lucky she was to be able to do such and such. It seemed everyone around her could point out the positives while she was aware of the negatives.
Easy peasy.
At the sound of a voice, she realized it was her partner talking and so Kitty swung around in her seat, beaming a greeting. The thirteen year old tilted her head as she listened to the other before nodding. Her smile brightened and she stood up, shoving her notebook into her backpack and slinging it on. “Outside sounds great! Definitely! There’s some benches out on the lawn near the basketball court we could go to. Or I can grab a blanket and we can sit on the grass if you prefer? Oh, we could grab a snack, too! You hungry?”
Her face flushed when she realized how much she had just babbled.
“Sorry… I’m a bit excitable.”
Aella barely had time to even think of what to say next, as her partner turned to face her so quickly. The large smile on her face didn't waver for even a moment, and Aella felt the small, instinctive twitch of her own lips raising in return of the expression. Small things such as that - a smile from another person, further from somebody her age - made her feel better about anything.
Perhaps, as her parents had told her, a smile really was the most powerful of expressions.
A momentary scramble for the notebook and pen before her was soon followed with standing as well, hugging the item to her chest. She blinked once, yellow eyes rising to look at her partner enthusiastically as she continued to speak. The energy from the other girl was beginning to pick her up as much as her smile had.
"Don't apologize..." replied, her voice less quiet than it had been only moments ago, at it was more her voice, rather than a hesitant one.
"Hey - maybe we could grab a snack, blanket, and treat it kind of like a little picnic! We could do it before we do our homework, too, since it should be pretty easy anyway."
She remained looking at her partner, before being struck with the realization she had yet to introduce herself, or learn her partner's name. "Oh! By the way..." she offered a hand, "I'm Aella."
”Right — yeah. Not valuable.”
"Actually if you stare at it long enough it kind of looks like an antique."
Not helpful, but honesty is the best policy.

on my other rp account, I have both ICly and OOCly lost an rp partner for no rhyme or reason. the mun was very important to me personally, and their muse was VASTLY important to my muse. her heart is breaking and I'm dealing with this the best I can. that being said, I don't know how my mood/my other muse's heartbreak will impact Aella.
Our Life || Experiment Subjects AU

and she wakens apace: a paroxysm of torment and distress, pain wreaks turmoil upon svelte physique, and she writhes in agony for well-nigh an eternity ( electrocution was a frequent rousing tactic –– one could not disregard the lingering feel of numbness & the roaring miasma of scathed flesh ); oblivion evanesces altogether before becoming vague flickers of reality, dark eyes assay to focus upon anyone or anything, though her effort proves to be futile ( her vision would return eventually, as it always did; for the nonce, she would have to rely upon other sense, no matter how inadequate they were in juxtaposition to her eyes ). with fluttering lashes, she listens to the researchers, and replies to their inquiries at her own timid pace ( questions such as what she had seen, how she saw, and if she had experienced anything different from her last test; wonted questions are to be answered with wonted words, though the time lingers idly, and she grows tired ). albeit roughly, she is lifted from the gelid, metal table where she lay ( shuddering exhale withheld; her vision is keen by now ), and is recklessly set on her feet.
'twas a daily experience: waking up, or, rather, heaved from her intolerable cot whilst she slept, exposed to inhumane tests –– physical and mental ( though, she had not done many physical tests lately –– mayhaps the scientists finally grasped that those tests were idle, for her ‘abilities’ were mental, not physical; or mayhaps they were utterly bored with her constant failure ), before she was sent back to the small room that she shared with a friend, to wait for the next day’s repetition.
yet, she was used to it. she was used to the hard, cold cots; to the appalling sludge they offered her for breakfast, lunch, and supper; to the strange tests and injections; to the scientists whose names she never bothered to remember ( after all, she was just a number to them –– simply one more laboratory rat –– wherefore should she offer them the luxury ); she was accustomed to it all. and she presumed that she would remain there for the residue of her piteous days, or until the divested her of those days ( alas, ‘twas the demise of her former roommate, tormented until this dreaded place finally destroyed her ), whichever arrived first.
dull & vacant eyes gaze upon the white-tiled floors beneath as she is led to her room, lips part slightly, yet no words form; bare pallid feet drag as she walks ( she is exhausted, both physically and mentally, yet she could not bring herself to grouse in the presence of her escorts, out of fear. she would simply mutter to Aella about it later ). soon, the perpetual, tedious walk in the white hallways ends, and she is brought to her room –– a scientists pries open the door, before forcing her in ( she staggers slightly, but regains poise soon after ). the door shuts; carmine eyes land upon the exhausted figure of her roommate resting on the carpet; pallid features flicker with fret, and she forces herself to crouch alongside of her friend, prodding her shoulder with delicacy. a brief exhale, dust churns vigorously in laconic lungs, and she speaks for the first time in what seemed like days:

As she lay upon the ground, she felt her senses slowly beginning to shut the world around her out. The silence her room presented sometimes seemed to create a mighty roar which echoed in even the deepest crevices of her mind. It shook through her hollow bones, even driving her heart into an arrhythmia every now and then. That was normally when she spoke. But now, the silence was just that - silence. It was an uninterrupted reverie which cradled her as she attempted to force the terrible images from any test she'd endured - today's included - from her mind.
There was little she could do to entirely mute those memories, instead only using them to compare to one another, as though to find a way to tell herself, 'Today wasn't that bad after all. Remember last week - ?'. Sometimes it worked. Other times it made her want to fall asleep and forget everything.
A sigh escaped her lips, disrupting the quiet of the room. There was nothing she wanted more than to go outside. What was it even like out there? The only experience with the outside world she'd had was when she was transferred to this facility from one across the country. The truck she'd been transported in hadn't had windows (at least where she was). and they'd walked her into the facility from the loading dock at night. No sunlight for her.
...I wonder if I'll ever get to see real light.
That was when the door opened behind her. Aella remained still against the ground, immobile until the door shut again. The tension which had sprung up in her body slowly vanished as she focused her hearing on the footsteps she knew where Anna's.
When the other lowered herself, Aella barely comprehended the shifting of the carpet her ear was pressed against before the light feeling of a hand on her shoulder resulted in an instinctive twitch to show some kind of response.
" Anna . . ." She turned her head to face her friend, only one eye able to move to look at the other teen while the other remained against the ground.
". . . animal experimentation should be illegal."
It was a weak attempt at a joke; derogatory against herself, though the true meaning of it was the same - it was her own way of wishing they could each live something more akin to what they believed was a 'normal' life.
«☣» Genetic anomalies were always something Asher passed over upon first glance, so it was no surprise it took him a moment to register irises that were bright { and not in the way that signified an abundance of life }. Crimson met pools of yellow { similar in color to that of a daffodil he’s decided } his own irises blinking slightly, intrigued over coming into contact with someone else that shared something he could only call a defect.
“Yeah I’m sure; it’s fine, don’t worry ‘bout it. You’re not the first person to space out and Kami knows you won’t be the last."
Perhaps there was something of medical significance that signified the color of his irises? Unless he, appearing to be a teenager, was caught in some sort of 'rebellious' phase that made him want to appear demonic my purposefully altering the color of his eyes. She wouldn't put it past anybody, really.
". . . 'Kami' ?"
She blinked, tilting her head slightly to physically display the confusion which had settled over her. The term was vaguely familiar and yet, she found herself wondering what he referred to, and the origin of the word itself.
"Why does that sound familiar?"
Our Life || Experiment Subjects AU
Another day of tests which pushed her beyond the limits of what could be considered 'humane'. These had been physical, forcing upon her an array of activities which she had minimal experience in; the closest she ever came was any day spent in the 'Physical' ward of the laboratory.
Today, though, had been something else. Running for hours - some on a treadmill, some on a track, some on turf. Dribbling a soccer ball within a designated area. Running back and forth to a timed 'Pacer' test. Sit-ups, push-ups, pull-ups, and today a curve ball had been thrown - swimming.
One look at her could tell anybody she would utterly fail in the sport. Never before had she been in more water than a shower required. Yet she'd been given an hour to learn how to swim, or she would fail that part of the evaluation. She'd floundered helplessly for so much of it - her arms scrambling at the water while her wings flapped awkwardly at the surface, splashing water everywhere and making an inordinate amount of nose.
It was done, though. But no less stressful or traumatic, in a way only an experiment such as herself could know. Aella felt her knees give way when she reached the center of the room rough hands of scientists had shoved her into. Her room. Hers and Anna's, actually.
The girl collapsed to the ground, arms and legs spread-eagled over the carpet as she lay on her stomach, keeping her wings folded close to her back. She hurt all over, especially her shoulders, back, and wings. Today had been brutal.
Hopefully, Anna had been treated better.
Not Alone
Tiredness clawed its way through her body, dragging at her feet as she forced herself to continue on. How was it that she could find the motivation to continue moving however many hours after night had fallen? Part of it was her unwillingness to slow down until she found a suitable place for the night, and another part was fear.
Fear of whatever may be in the shadows. Fear of whomever else could be out here when she thought she was alone. Fear of anything she didn't know for certain, including herself to a degree.
Calm down. Calm down, right - breathe. That was something she could do until she found a place to stay. Passing under a streetlight, the girl glanced down at her hands, clutched around the straps of the duffel bag she had slung behind her like a knapsack.
Her nails were long compared to what she tried to keep as 'normal'.
Oh no...
A flare of desperation to control herself rose up, figuring it was the fear she'd felt growing since night fell accumulating, forcing those black...talons, whatever they were....to begin to grow again. She didn't have the means to cut them back or file them down, either. All she had were changes of clothes and an extra pair of shoes.
Aella kept her mind moving - thinking about anything she could - in order to distract herself. It proved to be effective, as she soon found herself leaning against a stone wall, looking across a large yard (perhaps?) stretched in front of an even larger, stone building. Both were overgrown, hardly a stone's-throw from what Aella would humorously term a rainforest.
It looks safe. Placing her hands on the wall, the teen vaulted over the wall, hissing as rocks which jutted out from their position in the wall scraped through her t-shirt and the bindings which closed her wings tightly against her back. That was now an injury she'd need to take care of.
In spite of the bindings, the wings were reaching a size which made them noticeable even still - they stuck out at the sides, pressing against the bindings, their main joint bulging up behind her shoulders, and feathers stuck out past the butt pockets of her jeans. They were getting harder to hide. Every day, it seemed, binding them got more and more painful as their size increased.
I just have to get inside this. Then I can try to take care of it. With that, she began running - a full sprint across the large yard, toward the house. Finally. I'll have somewhere to rest.
Some shuffling sounded like he was trying to roll and maybe m a y b e get up. “—O-Oh” He paused and gave her a thumbs up.
She supposed that was meant to reassure her. Silently, she reached out a hand, offering to help pull him to his feet.
