hm haven’t posted on this one in a long time

been almost half a year since i made a pride month thing and i still can’t get myself to post anything

oh wow i haven’t posted art on here in a long time. there’s a lot of characters so im not going to name them all this time. also giving very little context i know but im tired and just want to post now. maybe ill hunt down the digital art next time

I think this is the first time I’ve posted any AU versions of my characters. Jordan and Angel are a toxic fucking train wreck in the Opposites AU, but I need to work on pinning down their individual personalities. I mostly know what I’m doing with Angel but I’m still figuring out Jordan. I’ve definitely nailed down their older two kids. They are perfect and I don’t think I’ll need to do any major changes to them.

Most of what I’ve drawn since, with the exception of digital art. I found one other small page but I hit the ten image limit so another time.

had half an hour to kill before work... which is also why i didn’t have time to finish details on grif (alas, no nostrils for the man to breathe). anyways, a friend in the rvb fandom recently invited me to join a multi artist project, but i wasn’t sure if id be able to hold myself to completing a finished piece right now. still, it did make me miss drawing rvb characters enough to draw them in this edition of “drawing the eyes first and hoping for the best”

The other artwork from the last few months that I haven’t posted— reverse chronological order. Both fanart and OCs. Some of the notes I wrote will make a little more sense chronologically though haha.

Was going to do drawings of blue team over time. might add one of two more if i feel up to it so i can include Tex and Kai. I still want to finish this… so we’ll see.

The first sketches for the priorly mentioned concept. Also some sketches after I heard that animators in the industry who drew the eyes first got both more dynamic and faster character art. If anyone is wondering, both of those cat kiddos were intended to be Jordan (specific) haha. Though the laying on the grass one really gives Shadow vibes.

Some sketches of OCs— with some fun lettering for their names. The “(maybe)” is because I was so focused on drawing Jordan’s body proportioned correctly that I didn’t think ahead of time about which alter I was drawing, and the facial expression doesn’t immediately make me think of anyone in particular. So. idk it’s someone i guess lol

More practice with body types.

Revamped some characters I haven’t done anything with since high school. Premise is basically these people representing concepts that people value (love, fear, nature, etc) have powers and protect the multiverse. The story basically begins that a few of the Guardians were killed, so new chosen ones must be trained in to take their place… But the threat that took those lives is still at large, and these new Guardians in training must figure out how to embody these roles that they don’t feel suit them.

Wanted to practice drawing fatter characters. Body types vary quite a bit when I draw some OCs, because I have trouble getting all but my pencil thin characters to look right (years of practice of a single body type, sigh). Hopefully I can nail down exactly how I want each of them to look soonish. These are at least close to how I imagine. Katsy’s legs turned out too short and Eva’s turned out too long though. It’s fine. I can leave it. I should sleep. It’s fine.

So yeah. Lots of little doodles practicing body shapes too. Got a little silly with it at the end bc i wanted to fill the page.

how i think some hazbin hotel sinners would’ve looked in life

My decision for skin tones was basically just taking the color in the show and giving it more of a reddish/orangish hue. I assume the grayscale skin tones are meant to reflect how they looked in life but with an overexaggerated “deathly pallor”. Which is a neat concept. Since I’m imitating the art style of the show I didn’t vary eyebrows shape or thickness, include any lip outlines, or vary body shape. Sometime I might draw some of the characters in my own art style but we’ll see.

Those late 18th century hairstyles are harder to draw than I expected. I just couldn’t get the side poofs to look right. (I was tempted to do long braids or something similar imitating the cobra “hair” he has in Hell but instead went for historical accuracy of what I could find for black men in late 1700s England).

For Angel Dust, I looked up typical outfits from mafia movies as well as women’s fashion in the year he supposedly died. Settled for a men’s button up that he keeps half unbuttoned and a women’s belt and pencil skirt. I assume he kept his drag hobby secret from his family until they got to Hell, but I wanted to incorporate at least some of his feminine style in this.

For Alastor went with 1920s men’s fashion since he died in the early 30s. I kept the monocle very stylized like in the show.

I’d like to get around to the other characters, but with how many projects I tend to put on hold and not get back to I’m not making any promises.

An animatic I started a year ago. And then I got sick for a few days and it broke my focus streak and I couldn't get myself to work on it again. Although I still had the file, since I graduated I no longer have access to Photoshop (fuck that I'm not paying for that), so I spent tonight learning to use the Clip Studio Paint timeline and retiming all of the frames as well as taking photos of the frames I never got around to drawing digitally and adding those in too. I would like to continue it at some point. I do know how I want some of the unmade visuals to look so maybe I can scribble some more down.

you ever make a tumblr equivalent for your fictional world? i just wrote a bunch of posts that would absolutely be on tumblr in the nether in my nine realms paracosm. memes, discourse about terminology, etc

that is how i am spending my work break apparently. i love worldbuilding but i have been noticing parallels between some fictional “races” and real world groups and have been debating whether to make it intentional coding or leave it at a coincidence

finally settled on hairstyles for some of my black-coded characters i previously gave straight hair! found refs, made rough sketches. excited for whenever the next chance i get to do some digital art is

and his sister’s new hair texture with her old undercut honestly looks even better on her than before

still getting used to loose curls on pluto, but it’s the hairstyle i’ve liked best so far for him because it lets me maintain some of the old features of his hairstyle. might add some more volume when i start sketching digitally but his mom was white-coded and i need to redesign his dad’s hair since that’s the black-coded side and i gave that hyena straight to slightly wavy hair and that cannot stand. yes it’s fantasy and i can do what i want and demigods probably have more genetic variety due to gods not being limited by what’s typical in mortals but i need to stop being a coward and give that hair some TEXTURE

eva is the type to change her hair up a lot so i’ve tried out every hair type and multiple braid styles on her at this point. leaning towards her natural texture being more curly than coily but still want to do a lot of variety and change it up fairly frequently

hel is the first character in that universe that i gave the correct hair type all the way back in high school (after years of straight hair). i’m debating between braids and locs, and i think the tie breaker will be up to finding old art and seeing what i did first. in a bit of a rush and away from home rn so not as much access to my old art. i guess technically he doesn’t need the same hairstyle forever tho so i could do one when he’s a teen and the other as an adult

i’m just kind of rambling but this will also be an easy place for me to find these notes again and also i’ve got that “excited about finding new things about a character that feel so right” serotonin rush

very very rough so i’m looking forward to making digital sketches whenever i can and updating some wips

i definitely need to keep practicing but i’m making progress

Here are some sketches I did last night. Wanted to play around with hairstyles for a few characters but got too tired to continue.

I went from deciding “If I do any art tonight it will be the Queer Canyon title screen” to oh i wanna sketch

to “i wanna work on those vertigo and roga character sketches on my computer from months ago” (i added very little tonight)

to “oh i should remake that old unfinished pride ocs thing from 2016(?) using the above drawing file since i’m already doing two characters per layer as sort of dress up dolls for references and drawing different clothes” (the mentioned old thing:)

to “wait i never revamped pluto and nakir’s hair like i’ve been meaning to for years” (pluto is half-spotted hyena, half italian wolf and nakir is a lion— funny enough the first time i made human versions of the trio, laki was black and the other two were white. then i decided not long after to make appearance as humans match up with where each animal species is initially from so it swapped… it took a long time to slowly change hair textures since i was so attached to my old designs. especially for major characters. honestly thanks @chromaticroses for all the posts about drawing black characters. it was a push i needed to do this small thing that felt daunting. i definitely still need to practice but it’s a start)

and now it’s 4:30 am and i’m tired so i’m done for the night but i just wanted to share because i think things turned out good and i realized i hardly post on this blog (though tbf i’ve hardly drawn in the last year)

i’ve had the trio as characters for almost a decade now. thanks for all the ocs, young teen me. many have changed over the years, but at their core, most of them are the same people they used to be and have very similar designs to back then as well.

let your characters evolve as you learn and experience new things, and let what you want them to be push you to learn and experience even more new things whether it’s falling down a research rabbit hole on a period in history or on a gender identity, or learning to draw a new body type

mostly just happy with how Carolina turned out

i spent so long trying different hair styles for Simmons and finally ended with the ponytail because i was sick of being the nerd’s hairdresser at that point lol
