how have we gotten to the point where people are afraid to be sexually attracted to real actual people???? what are we doing? it's okay if you wanna fuck that person, that's normal. like are we okay???????
at any rate, you can rest assured that i will never be shamed into not wanting to fuck. people are hot and i will continue to celebrate that fact. sex is good and sexual feelings are good.
*again. Have we gotten to that point again. We’ve gotten to that point a lot in the last few centuries (assuming you are US/UK based. I don’t know what everyone else’s history is with Puritanism but we’ve done this a few times).
I mean you could say that the US exists because of the puritans. Shaming people about fucking really does end poorly.
Nah, I’m afraid the US was reasonably inevitable, puritans or no.
I mean yeah probably, they just (unfortunately) got there first. We'd be a much different country if they hadn't. Probably a better one.
Oh, I have to disagree. Christopher Columbus wasn’t a puritan. The famous Puritans weren’t even the first British people to set up colonies in America. And they weren’t the governments and companies who ripped it apart. They sucked and you’d have been better off without them but they were a drop in the ocean compared to the forces that really created the US as it is today and that, unfortunately, what pretty much inevitable in this time line.
I know he wasn't, but a LOT of the people who were "fleeing religious persecution" were. Puritans founded all of the new England colonies. The pilgrims were puritans. They had a huge influence in early founding of what would later become the us, and that lingering cultural influence is why conservatism had such an easy time taking hold. Like it's a whole ass thing and really big part of American history. It's not really an agree or disagree sort of thing...it's literally just a factual accounting of one of the major cultural influences on the founding of America. The mayflower was full of colonists who founded the first American colony in plymoth and they were a sect of puritans (the main difference being that they were separatists.). The earliest American colonists were puritans. The companies funded it and whatnot, but the people they were funding to come live here and the hands that killed natives were puritans. They got here first and established the first colonies and then established all of new England. They are the reason Americans are weird about sex and nudity, why evangelical versions of Christianity has such a chokehold on us, why America doesn't have a liberal party, and why conservatives are fuckin...everywhere.
