JONATHAN CRANExFem!READER
-sfw (except if you interpret the ending as pre-capture). Workaholics need to take breaks too.
Jonathan sits in his old, high-backed chair at an ancient desk, working on his newest formula. The last one seems to have the unwanted side effect of killing his victims test subjects. Well, killing them too soon, anyway.
Finally having finished a draft of the new formula, Jonathan goes to take a sip from the cup of tea his assistant, Y/N, brought him. It's cold. He looks up at the dusty wall clock to find that 6 hours had passed since she brought it to him, warm at that time. It only felt like minutes had passed. Upon starting to think on how the brain misinterprets time during intense focus, Jonathans stomach growls, confirming the clock's timeliness.
Raising from his chair and stretching the crick in his back (being thrown into a pile of crates by a certain masked nuisance is such a killer on the vertibae) Jonathan heads towards the kitchen to look for sustenance. He tries to remember when the last time he had been to a grocery store. This week? Last week?
After reaching the fridge, Jonathan is disheartened to see an half-emptied container orange juice, milk, a few eggs of unknown age, and some butter. He shuts the fridge door, contemplating when he'd bought the eggs, when he sees it sitting on the kitchen table. A plate of biscuits with gravy, sausages, buttered toast, and hash browns. All wrapped in some cellophane. Next to it a note:
Gone home for the night. Didn't want to disturb you. Hope this will suffice until I can go to the store for you tomarrow.
"Such a thoughtful girl" he mused, grabbing the plate and a fork to return to his office. She had proved to be a valuable asset in ways he had not expected. He had always been a very capable villain, but tends to become so focussed on his work, small things like food, sleep, and hygiene tend to fall from the schedule. But having her around to remind him that sleep is a bodily necessity, to cook meals, to look over his formulas for errors while he took a shower, eases the burden.
And she is agile enough to help in a fight. The Scarecrow rarely needed to fight (a spray of arisolized toxin was usually enough to get his point across) but there had been one or two times where a chemical delivery had gone sideways and having her around had kept a blade from getting put in his back.
Digging into a fork full of sausage, Jonathan started to think on an idea that had started to sound more enticing as time went on. An assistant during the day is fine, but at night the house feels quiet. He usually enjoys the solem and quite. But over the past year or so Y/N has been his assistant, the days she isnt working have become more noticeably quiet.
"Perhaps" Jonathan says, stairing decidedly at the now empty fork "its time to make her place here more....permanent. "
You can take this as a pre-kidnapping, pre-asking out, or pre-promotion ending. I tried to keep it so you could put any of most the Scarecrows in the role. Hope ya like it! 😁
