this is how you find yourself—

pretend it doesn’t hurt. (but it does, it does.)

walk into the dark. keep a fast time. edge around corners until you’ve lost them. 

build a bridge.

build a wall and a castle and an army and a cellar to lock away your monsters. when they destroy each one, build something new.

shadow someone you think you love. fall back when you realize you cannot possibly follow them. continue to fall back when you realize all they want is to keep you following.

admit to yourself what you are. categorize it accordingly.

destroy yourself. make the performance convincing. (they will know.)

search for answers in a book full of riddles. more questions will follow. it will eat away at you, slowly, savoring.

find the truth and realize it is only a lie. constructed of glimmering magic cogs and gilded bolts and the power of a secret. tear it apart. chew on the pieces until you can no longer distinguish between the metal and the blood in your mouth.

this is how you find yourself and lose yourself in equal measure: become a ghost.
