Grief is weird

In the way that at random I’ll want to call you

And I remember I can’t

Sometimes listening to your voicemails

And it makes me feel close to you, like you’re not gone

I’ll listen to the songs we loved together

And even in conversations with people who don’t know you

I’ll laugh and I’ll reference something you did that was absurd and hilarious

Or I’ll even just think about how you’d find the conversation funny too

I’m afraid to forget the cadence of your voice or your laugh

I think of our past lives

And I hope for our next

And I think about how over the next 60 or so years that I hope to inhabit the earth, that I have to do so without you

That is such a terribly long time to miss someone

And I don’t want anyone to forget you either

And I wonder will my sisters and I still talk about you as much as we do now

And will i I still be close to your brother in all those years I have left
