mack being asked about his goal and immediately saying he didn’t do much and it was all his teammates. complimenting france for how well they played and saying they had a lot of chances but jet has been fantastic in net for them. being so smiley and patient and kind with the french reporters and getting named the mvp while handling all his new captain responsibilities with grace. he’s amazing. he really was made for this. nineteen years old and already shining under such bright lights and being someone everyone else looks to and is in awe of

I hope I can pay you back with some playoff nights next season. 

The way this made me tear up. You can genuinely feel the love he has for the city and for the Sharks and I think that’s kinda rare. It’s easy to say that your current team means a lot to you and still move on as soon as you can, but he seems so genuine about his love.

“It was a bit lonely for sure. I missed my friends back home and the routine I had there.” He’s literally just a baby😭

“We want the Shark Tank back. We want it rocking. I know we can make some more Good Old Days. We gotta make it happen. Otherwise I'm gonna be hearing from Joe.”

And he just had to mention Will. He even did so twice. Fork found in kitchen.

“But we just stuck with it. Nobody quit. Nobody checked out. And we found a way in OT. Will with a beauty one-timer (decent pass, too).”

“Then the other day I got to go to Bachrodt Elementary with Will and Zack to do a little reading circle with a class, and I feel like we crushed it. (You tell me.) One of the kids even made a little sign for Ned, and he spelled his name right and everything. It was so much fun, and after the Olympics, it was the perfect reminder of what we’re doing this for. Maybe it’s a cliche, but when you really feel a part of a community, it means a lot more to wear the sweater. And I love wearing this sweater.”

will immediately running to grab mack’s goal puck to keep it… and then turning around to show it off with that huge smile actually consumed me. like that immediate certainty, needing to make sure it’s saved, to hold onto it for them. not even a second of hesitation. and the way he shows it to mack like look what i got for you like the moment isn’t complete until he gives a piece of it back to him, until he’s kept it safe for them. idk how people question how much he likes mack when he does things like this. like what else could that even be, really

if you think about it actually the most romantic thing about this entire affair is will skating directly to the net to grab mack's record-breaking puck. because everyone else was yelling and screaming and hugging mack but will got up quietly and made sure that mack got his keepsake. something to remember this moment by later when everyone else is long gone home. whole world is celebrating you right now and you're celebrating with us and i'm going to choose to give that up—to sacrifice sharing this once-in-a-lifetime moment with you—just so you have this memento. just so you have a talisman to help you remember to celebrate yourself even when it's a new season, a new year; even when you're chasing down the next record (because there'll always be a next record, for mack). because i know you struggle with that, when you're the last person who ever should. because i think you should be allowed to be happy about getting what you want. because i care about the hockey of it all, but i also care about you. because i love you. you should be proud.
