Amane on the brain again

Thinking abt why Amane feels most comfortable with Fuuta and not Shidou and Mappi who were actively being very gentle and kind to her. (for Mappi I think its more so that she justified it to herself after she died to ease the guilt, but can still apply to her even if it applies most to Shidou) .

Like Shidou was very gentle and kind and everything, but he still was similar to her parents. Its stated that, when she followed the rules, her parents were very kind, but they switched up entirely whenever she broke the rules. Given how few adults Amane has interacted with, she's obviously going to see the similarities between Shidou and her parents and assume that, should she mess up, he will be just as cruel to her. This could be why she is so staunchly against anything he tries to encourage her to do like trying pancakes or being more open to medicine. She could be interpreting it as "He's trying to bait me into messing up, and then I'm gonna get hurt. This is a test of my faith and I must stay strong." I think that this was the main thing stopping her from getting closer to him. Not the medicine, not the way he dismissed her feelings ("No, I don’t understand. It’s my job as an adult to teach you that throwing a temper tantrum isn’t going to make everything go your way. If it’s a test of endurance you want, I’m happy to oblige, Amane."), but the way he was kind to her like her parents were.

This brings us to Fuuta, almost the exact opposite of Shidou. Fuuta is loud, arrogant, aggressive, and will absolutely speak his mind and complain when he feels like it. Fuuta isn't sugarcoating things or being overly sweet to her because she is a kid. He respects her and treats her like a fellow person, not someone who is less valid in their feelings because they are younger. He makes being a kid less of a problem because with him, being a kid doesn't mean that adults can do anything and she just has to take it because she knows less. Fuuta isn't acting gentle all the time like Shidou and her parents, so it's harder to associate the two given just how out of the ordinary Fuuta is to her. Amane doesn't have to worry about a sudden switch up because it's just so hard to imagine someone who is already this aggressive and impulsive and different switching to the brutal cruelty of her parents. She trusts Fuuta enough to cut her hair. She trusts him enough to poke fun at him without getting hurt.

In regards to the cult aspect, Fuuta isn't following her because he genuinely believes her doctrine. He's following her because she is the only one who believed that he could change. "I know it’s not normal to get rid of medical treatment! And the things they taught me may also be just some ordinary, pretty children’s tale, I know that! But without a doubt, it was salvation to me! I needed someone to believe that me, who’s good-for-nothing, could be saved, and to tell me that I could start over from here on!" (fuuta t3 vd) . Their dynamic is sweet to me and it makes me happy to think that Amane has at least one adult whom she can trust.

This topic has been done to death by this fandom, but the idea that there is a more 'feminine' one in Whizzvin's dynamic is just.. completely wrong, or at least mostly. Neither of them are supposed to be written to be more or less masculine than the other, and I often see Whizzer's athleticism as an argument against this, but I don't exactly think that his love for keeping fit and staying objectively attractive is either masculine or feminine; it's a very neutral thing and anyone of any gender can have the same mindset. A lot of Marvin's need for control over Whizzer stems from his own internal world and how he perceives gender, and due to how obviously repressed he is, American society's view/s on it at the time and his blatant internalised homophobia and misogyny, Marvin's views on gender roles and masculinity v. femininity are very abstract and very warped. He is threatened by Whizzer, both because Marvin is attracted towards a man's blatant masculinity and because he believes he does not possess the same/similar traits, and if he can make an attempt to undermine his lover's masculinity then he will have the more power over him (however, ultimately, I'd argue and say Whizzer had a lot more control over Marvin in certain aspects, but it's nearly midnight for me and I can't be bothered to talk about that). Like a lot of the Marvin Trilogy, Marvin's actions are because of him fearing having no control.
