"Shit..." His gaze was practically glued to the window, eyeing the storm outside forlornly. "Been raining pretty bad almost all day now."
âHasnât slowed down even a little bit, huh? Iâd be impressed if I wasnât worried about floodingâŚâ
âI kinda wanted to order a pizza, too. But, like⌠itâd be pretty messed up to just make someone drive all the way here in this weatherâŚâ
Jowi approached the window, gazing out at the storm next to Ryuji,
âDoesnât your one friend live in like⌠a sketchy old attic above a cafe? You think heâs doing ok? No leaks or anything on his end?â
"No, if anything I'd say it's only coming down harder..." Certainly didn't seem as though the downpour would stop.
"I mean, if you really wanted to - we could still order one - yeah, it wouldn't be great for someone to drive out in this weather but at lrast they'd be in a car most of the ride, yeah...?"
Plus, he wasn't super confident about his own cooking skills!
"I mean the attic is totally spooky and sketchy - but like you said, it is above a cafe and I don't think Boss would ever risk it," He admits, shaking his head. "Still...probably isn't the most comfortable setting."
âAaah⌠itâs fine. I could just make one with what we have here.â He admitted, checking his phone, âKarla should be home soon, anyway. I can ask her to pick up some things on the way.â
He turned towards the kitchen, tapping away at his phone to message his cousin,
âI made dinner for me and her a lot growing up. We were on our own a lot, so I picked up a few things.â He explained, âAny toppings youâd want in particular?â
Thinking about LeBlanc, Jowi let out an amused huff,
âYeah⌠youâre probably right. That old man wouldnât let anything be a risk to that cafe. Besides, you said that your friend was pretty crafty. Heâd probably patch up any leaks himself. Feel bad for his cat, though. Canât imagine heâs having a good time.â

âThatâs a good question⌠I was thinking⌠maybe getting my momâs name? Somewhere around I guess maybe you could get your dadâs? Maybe we could kinda get them in the same spot? That way theyâre matching, but⌠not embarrassing if something changes later down the line, right?â

Jowi sighed, looking around at the gangsters in the alley. None of these guys were anything special. If he was gonna fight all of these thugs, the least they could do is make it interesting. They were coming at him with just⌠Normal weapons. Pipes, knives, maybe a handgun? Boring.
He dispatched them with ease. As advanced as the tech around here seemed, it looked like the thugs were just the same as everywhere else. Thinking they were tough just because they had numbers. As they were tossed around the alley, heâd sigh in disinterest. Maybe this plane was a bit of a waste of time. Not like he could fix a whole space-faring civilization by himself.
Suddenly, another presence could be felt. It was rare for someone to get so close to him without him noticing, so he jumped to get some distance between him and theâŚ
Holy shit thatâs a tall dude.
This guy must have been around nine feet tall. Sure, back home, heâd seen bigger people, but it was rare to see what seemed to be a human this size outside of his home. The guy was pale as a vampire, too⌠though the fact this planet seemed to be forever at night time somehow might have something to do with that.
âSo⌠you wanna fight, too?â
Konrad Curze was, by every conceivable definition, a tall manâeven folded in upon himself like some starving carrion bird perched atop a corpse. The irony of it all was that he was not even the tallest of his brothers, yet the perpetual hunch of his spine made him appear as though he were attempting to make liars of anyone who dared describe him as lesser in stature. And lies, in moments such as these, were unforgivable things.
Bone and armor groaned as he slowly unfurled.
The sound was not unlike an ancient crypt forced open after centuries sealed shutâsharp cracks rippling through his frame, more fitting for some withered elder than the pale, scar-laced features of the Primarch himself. Nine feet became ten. Ten stretched into twelve. Until, with horrifying finality, Konrad Curze stood at the full and monstrous height of fifteen feet, gaunt and looming like death given flesh.
The voice drew his attention instantly.
Black eyes snapped toward the smaller figure, pupils narrowing to predatory slits as a slow grin peeled across his face. It was not a human expression. It lacked warmth, lacked humor. The line of sharpened teeth bared more like a starving beast deciding whether prey was worth the effort of the chase.
The Primarch of the Eighth Legion was infamous for cruelty beyond comprehensionâfor flayed corpses hung in cathedral streets, for screams echoing through hive cities long after the guilty had died. Entire worlds whispered his name like a prayer against the dark.
Yet this was not a threat.
Not fully.
The Nostraman demigod merely stared at the newcomer with the terrible stillness of something deciding where best to cut.
âTell me,â Curze hissed at last, his voice seeming to crawl from the shadows around him rather than from his own throat. âIs it common upon this world for its inhabitants to attempt murdering every stranger they encounter?â
His grin widened by a fraction.
âOr am I simply fortunate?â
Oh, he was even taller. Made no difference to the Planeswalker. After the war with Phyrexia, there was nothing left for him to fear. Heâd stared into the very eyes of corruption. Seen the unholy soul of Yawgmothâs children, and triumphed. He had faced down the gods of Theros, faced Nicol Bolas on the battlefield. A tall, armored animal-man-thing was nothing he couldnât handle.
He approached the primarch, getting within armâs reach of the giant, and looked straight up at him.
âFighting and killing are two very different things. Youâd think someone in such fancy armor would know the difference.â He retorted,
âAs for the local customs? Iâm not from around here, so youâd have to ask them. Theyâll be awake shortly. I just knocked them out. Challenging me to a fight is no reason for them to die.â
His hands firmly planted in his pockets, he stood his ground. If this massive man wanted to intimidate him, he would have to try much, much harder. The Heroâs eyes pierced back at Curze, studying. Taking note of every tiny movement he made. Ready to act at less than a momentâs notice.
âSo⌠if youâre gonna show me those gross-ass teeth, you might as well tell me who they belong to.â
"It's that d-darn ol' Homunculus again... I s-swear... D-don't ever m-make a t-teleportin' Homunculus..."
âWhy did you make a teleporting Homunculus? Wasnât that whole fiasco with Grblshnt enough?â
"O-Okay... But listen... Grblshnt w-was NOT my fault!! It w-was my familiar Jimmy's fault. S-silly frog jumped onto the hearth and kn-knocked the damn mystical m-mirror of time down."
"The H-Homunculus, I w-will take full c-credit for!"
âYeah⌠I probably shouldnât have just left something made of Temporal Glass just hanging there⌠Iâll take some blame for that, too.â

God DAMN, these rich people schools. Well, thatâs where he assumed he was, anyways. Where else would have such a state-of-the-art system that identified him as some kind of âerrorâ and begun to hunt him down? No school anywhere near his neighborhood, that was for sure. Worse still, he didnât even know HOW he got into such a place.
Was it for a dare? It could be, he never backed down from oneâŚbut that still didnât explain anything! Had he been drunk when he got in? No, he hadnât broken into the liquor cabinet in awhile, and as far as he could remember, sobering up didnât happen so suddenlyâ
In his haste, he vaulted over a wall, intent on running to the other side when he hit someone, grunting as he stumbled back. âOi, what givesâ?!â HolyâŚfuck, this guy was tallâŚ!
Jowi stopped, looking down at the kid whoâd just slammed into him. He looked⌠kinda familiar. Truth be told, he was actually pretty bad with faces. He identified people by how they move and their voices more than their faces. Almost like a kind of face blindness. So if heâd seen this kid before, he definitely didnât recognize them.
âWow⌠you kinda slammed into me pretty hard, there. You okay? Doesnât seem like youâre bleeding or anything, so thatâs a good start.â
He knelt down, offering the seemingly lost child his hand to help them up,
âNameâs Jowi. Though, I guess .you could call me by my hero name, too. Hachiman, in that case. Either is fine. Are you lost? Or just⌠I guess maybe itâs possible a quirk got you sent here at random. Not a terrible place to end up, though. You did find your way to UA.â

It Canât Rain All the Time (Starter for @electricea)
It had been a while since Karla had been home. She often found herself spending long periods of time away, despite being the same age as Jowi. In fact, sheâd been out and about the city so long she hadnât even met Ryuji until now, on a dark, rainstorming night, the front door of the apartment would abruptly swing open, her eerie purple eyes glowing against the darkness, as she glanced over at the other. She didnât say anything, as she walked in, closing the door behind her, waist length hair soaked in rain flowing behind her like wiry cords, as she made her way towards Ryuji.
Her heavy boots thudded against the wooden floor as she approached, the water coating her outfit only providing the smallest of highlights along her build, making her seem almost formless until she was nearly in front of the other. She reached out, a pale, cold hand extending forwards towards him,
âHey! Iâm Karla! Jowiâs cousin! You must be Ryuji! You want to order pizza, or something? I havenât eaten in like a month!â
On a night like tonight he was more than content to stay huddled in his apartment, he was wearing his favourite (and warmest!) hoodie for comfort and he'd even draped a blanket over his legs as he was fully content to spend the day just huddled up on the coach, his phone in his lap and watching some videos until he felt like crawling into bed, doing his best to ignore the rain pounding loudly outside - sometimes he'd catch a glimpse of a flash of lightning or even some thunder, but thankfully, his phone kept him occupied - when he initially heard the door swing open, he hadn't even thought much of it - just more, thunder, maybe? Although the footsteps had put him a bit on edge and as the figure approached, he instinctively bristled.
Hearing the footsteps approaching, he leaned forward - his mind immediately going to an intruder, although he didn't want to make an ass of himself and potentially attack an innocent person - still...he didn't quite know what to make of this girl, with her pale skin, her entire body practically dripping in water. He...didn't entirely know what to think, but she seemed friendly enough, for now.
"Jowi's cousin...?" He manages, finding some comfort in the familiar name. "Uh sure, we can order a pizza, but don't you want to try off...? You seem all soaking wet there,"
âHuh? Oh,,, yeah, I guess I am pretty much drenched. I guess I could stand to dry off a bit.â She agreed, examining her outfit, and frowning,
âYou know⌠itâs crazy how much you stop noticing when youâre like me.â
She walked back to the door, removing her boots and socks, the heavy footwear being replaced on a boot tray, and the socks being held in her left hand, as she looked around, âUh⌠where is the bathroom? I should go lay out a bunch of my wet clothes⌠I havenât actually been⌠home in a while⌠Jowi probably has my stuff still in boxes.â
"Uh, well are you gonna get a towel or something...? Might be kind of uncomfortable if you're soaking wet," Truthfully, he didn't know how she could stand it but hey, some people did like the rain.
"Okay...?" He raises a brow in confusion, not really knowing or understanding what she's getting at, but not wanting to press any further.
"The bathroom is just around the corner - feel free to just hang up your wet clothes, there should be a rack behind the door," Thankfully he didn't have anything hanging up on it and if she left her stuff up there to dry for a while, then he didn't see a problem with that. "Any reason you haven't been home in a while...? Not that it's any of my business but I'm sure your family has been missing you - plus, might be a chance for you to go through your stuff and see your family,"
âThanks!â She exclaimed, starting towards the bathroom, but stopping once he asked about why she hadnât been home,
âOh. Because of my quirk. Iâm⌠kinda dead. And I have to find the people who⌠did this to me. Itâs a rare thing that happens⌠seemingly only in the US, or in people born there. A kind of⌠shared quirk that manifests once in a while. Only ever one person at a time, only ever people whoâve had something horrible happen to them. Some kind of great injustice. Theyâre never related or really connected by anything other than the name they take. The Crow.â
She sighed, âUsually you die first to become The Crow. You wake back up, with all these incredible powers⌠but you arenât really alive. But me⌠I didnât. I guess I got close enough for it to happen, but I was still very much alive when it happened. But the deal is, I donât really need to do⌠anything to survive. Sleep, food, drink, even air⌠all optional. Any injuries I get are undone immediately. Not quite dead or alive, really.â
âYeah, sure, use it as long as you need,â He just hoped there wouldnât be a disaster in there afterwards that heâd have to clean up afterwards.
âKind of deadâŚ?â He blinks, not entirely understanding what she meant by that. Sure, in his mind, he had initially compared her to appearance to that of a walking corpse but he hadnât dwelled on it for too long, thinking he was just exaggerating. Plus, he sure as hell wasnât about to mention that to her! âWhy dâyou think it only manifests in people in AmericaâŚ?â He furrowed his brows at this - it wasnât like people being mistreated was something exclusive to Americans. Still, he supposed he ought to be glad that at least some people had the chance to get any justice at all. âSo, I guess youâve had a uhâŚâ He trailed off, not exactly sure how to go about this as he didnât want to hit any sore spots with her. ââŚA great injustice done to you? Like someone did you wrongâŚ?â With the whole âone power exclusive to one personâ and sharing one name business, this was all stating to sound like something out of a superhero comic book.
âYou didnât really die but you got the powers of someone whoâs deadâŚ? So, what does that make you half dead orâŚ?â He didnât even know how much of this he really wanted to understand, seeing just how complicated all of this was. âI-i mean I guess the no injuries and instant healing part sounds good but does it kind of make you bummed that you canât eat or sleep or do anything like thatâŚ? I mean, donât you miss it?â
âThe Crow only manifesting in North Americans is pretty strange. Nobody really knows why, though. Some people think itâs a curse. Maybe itâs just a spirit guarding its territory. Maybe it can show up anywhere, but only the instances of it in America have been documented.
@s1lver-bullet || Liked for a Starter! (Jowi + Aigis)
"I comprehend..."
But did she, though? She'd just witnessed a rather violent display of brutal fighting between Jowi and an enemy. He'd downed the enemy so fast that any normal human might not have been able to catch the details, but Aigis wasn't exactly a "normal human."
"Did you really have to drag its head across the ground like that? Is that efficient in eliminating them?" She asked, taking mental notes.
"I will make a note to attempt this in a future battle. Thank you for showing me this technique."
âOh, the dragging his face around? No, not really. Unless youâre fighting a group of people. You hit a person in the jaw just right and theyâll go down. You knock someone down, and grind their face into the pavement, and their friends might start questioning if they really want to risk what youâll do to them.â He explained,
âMight not really work with Shadows. But people⌠yeah, you inflict a bit of unnecessary pain on someone, and you might just scare the rest into giving up. Or running away. In my case, itâs all about ending the fight quickly. Leave as few people in harmâs way as possible. If I have to rough one guy up really bad to make sure no innocents get hurt, then thatâs fine by me.â
âHonestly, you could probably get the same result by firing a handful of rounds into the ground at someoneâs feet. Being intimidating is mostly about what you could do, and understanding that the threat of pain is often worse than actually inflicting it.â
Any other day. Any other day, Niko would have just taken the girl and her sister to an orphanage, a church, a police department. Dropped them off with a smile, and told them it was gonna be A-OK from now on.
But the recent loss of his wife, and now the kidnapping of both his son and his niece? He made a lapse in judgment. Maybe he just felt guilty. For being unable to help his son, to help him process having lost his mother, and not being there to stop his kidnapping. He had to make things up for his shortcomings. And if this kidâs sister was in trouble?
âWhere is she? Iâll help you. Both of you. Iâm sorry about what happened to you, and how your parents treated you. Show me where your sister is, and you can stay with me until we find you a better place to live.â
He was too kind, too desperate to keep his life from falling more out of control. Everything in the last few months had gone wrong. He just needed to make this one day right. It made him easy to trick. He should have seen through her crocodile tears, he should have known something was wrong with the way she talked. But today? Today Junko had just stumbled into a once-in-a-lifetime lucky chance.
Too easy. Junko had to clamp her mouth closed, as a grin threatened to upend the corners of her lips. Heroes were always so eager to help others, which made them so terribly predictable. She knew that Silver Tiger would be no different, and would jump at the opportunity to help a poor, defenseless, orphan like herself.
She hadn't expected him to offer up his own home to two smelly, dirty, brats from the street though. A million reasons had flitted through her analytical mind, on how to best manipulate the situation to their favor, but she'd underestimated this heroes' compassion.
"Y-you would do that? You would save us just like that?" The child sniffled, rubbing the tears from her cheeks. "You're so kind.. a real life saver. Sis is this way." She led him the short distance to Mukuro, and she ran over to her sister, practically sobbing.
"Wake up sis. Don't tell me you're like dying, right when we've been saved by a hero." She gently shook her.
Mukuro grumbled and rolled over weakly. It was hard to comprehend her sister's words, but she knew something was wrong. Junko never woke her up this gently, preferring to kick her awake. She glanced over at the hero standing behind her and froze. "W-what's going on?"
"This amazing man.. he said we can stay with him. We won't have to go hungry anymore. Isn't that great? Heroes.. they really are something else. So different from the people we've been around." Her sister replied, the invocation clear. He couldn't know how dark and broken they already were. She'd have to be on her best behavior and act like a normal girl.
Niko carried the unconscious Jowi with him as he followed the girl. Of course these two were odd. But if theyâd been out on the streets for who knows how long, that could be forgiven. And it wasnât like he hadnât married an assassin, anyway. Who was he to judge? As Junko spoke to Mukuro, he kneeled down, holding his hand out to her,
âHmmm⌠you have sharp eyes, kiddo⌠a fighterâs eyes. But itâs true⌠Iâll take you two in for a while. This cityâs not somewhere kids should be out and about on the streets.â
He couldnât have known their story. He had no idea that these two were dangerous. Even if he had, he probably wouldnât have done anything different. Danger was just something he lived with. As he reached out to the girls, Jowiâs eyes flickered open. They quickly darted between the two. He didnât trust them. Not that he would trust anyone he met at the moment. But it was almost like he could see that something was wrong with them. Yet he remained silent.
âMy name is Niko. Letâs get you two cleaned up and out of those old clothes.â

âAs for buying you a bunch of presents⌠I dunno, is it working? I know you donât have much space, living with Misato, so I tried to just keep it to things you could fit in your roomâŚâ
She didn't want to ask about his family issues. Not that she didn't care, just that she didn't wanna pry into business that wasn't hers. They both had issues, and she completely understood not wanting to drag people into her problems.
"I guess it's working..." she muttered, crossing her arms over her chest. "I have way too much stuff in my room already but... what's a few more things. What did you get me?"
She didn't want to admit she was curious, but she was definitely curious.
He handed her a few bags of gifts. Some local candies from his hometown, a couple of souvenir shirts, and finally, a copy of his typical hoodie, minus the armor and extra weight built into it.
âItâs a prototype of merchandise I was shown a while back. Wasnât really interested in selling copies of my hero costume. But⌠I figured that since itâs in your colors, too, maybe youâd like to have it. Itâs a good material, pretty warm.
He reached one hand out, palm up, hesitant on if he was okay to touch her. Better safe than sorry, he figured. She might still be mad at him,
âYou mind if I give you a hug? Or do you⌠wanna try th hoodie on, first?â
