i just realized how differently celebrity crushes are viewed when it comes to being in a romantic relationship with someone.
celebrity crushes are not unusual since attraction is a common human emotion and canāt exactly be controlled, especially if itās towards a person or group of people that are often displayed in public or on social media due to the fact that they are successful and well-known.
when in a romantic relationship with someone, some people donāt care if their lover has a celebrity crush while others consider it cheating. to me, having a crush on someone and being in love with someone are two different things.
when it comes to crushes for me, itās seeing someone that falls under the category of what you consider attractive and going āoh hey theyāre pretty/handsome/beautifulā and moving on with your day. when it comes to being in love with someone, you are not only physically attracted to them but are also attracted to/enjoy their personality, lifestyle, how they treat others/you and more that define them as a person, making them who they are.
when it comes to just having a crush on someone, it something you really just develop from their looks and maybe a small part of their personality that said person tends to show or display to others. when it comes to being in love with someone you do develop a crush for them at first but then it transforms into something more, not just finding their looks attractive but being in love with who they genuinely are and wanting to develop a deep connection with that person because of it. a crush is just someone you find relatively attractive while being in love with someone is you wanting to get to know and spend the rest of your life with that person because you understand and adore them for who they are.
to me when someone has a celebrity crush itās just a person they consider attractive mostly from looks. the person with said crush doesnāt actually know or has met them and is just an emotion they canāt really control. what puts it all together for me is that they donāt make things about that celebrity crush. comparing them to their lover in disrespectful ways, making every conversation about them, every reference being related to that crush, etc.
and itās the same when it comes to online stuff as well, constantly posting or reposting things about them, stalking their social media accounts, liking every one of their posts, commenting on every post, etc.
itās normal for them to follow an account or two (especially if they enjoyed their work just as a celebrity before developing that crush) and liking a post once every blue moon when itās recommended to them but what isnāt normal is being straight up obsessed with them and making every simple thing about them.
having a simple celebrity crush is normal, being part of normal human emotions that a person canāt control. but how the person responds and their actions about it/towards others because of said crush can be controlled and they should be held accountable for that.
