How will making custom characters and foods in Personal Companion work? Is it complicated?
I'll explain in more detail on the guide on my site, but I'll describe it a little here:
Making food is fairly easy I think.
There's a built in editor, you just gotta draw the three frames of animation the food has and that's it. Food is 8 x 8 pixels so it's a really small image.
You also have the option to let your PC do it for you. Each character will make one specific food (though several characters may share the same one.) If you click that button, it'll overwrite whatever is currently drawn, so you have to keep that in mind.
As for the backgrounds, you can draw up to 99 8 x 8 tiles and have them appear either randomly (Chaos) or in the order they are listed.
You can also choose what color they are. You can set a different background and color for each room / Companion, once you unlock the ability to raise more than one (after getting your first adult.)
Now, in this game rather than making individual custom characters you can make custom eggs, which is a little more complicated than the other stuff.
You can draw the egg, similarly to the food, and edit the character sprites, which I think I've shown on a different post already. You can also choose which food the characters might be able to draw from the food items you have already made.
Finally, you have the character data. How long they take to get hungry or moody, how their care calls sound (type of wave, pitch and number of times they make the sound), what stage they are in, what food they make, how long the stage will last for them, which characters can they become, their animations… You'll be able to change all of that, but none of it is too complex on its own.
You can also export / import the sprites the eggs use, in case you'd rather use a different image editor.
hey! is your new game gonna be available for phones? also is it possible to add friends/download mods like in eternitchi?
No, this game is going to be for PC. It's main thing is being a desktop buddy of sorts, so I don't know how I'd translate that to mobile.
This game in particular is very simple and does not have a friendship feature, but you do get to draw your own food items and make custom eggs / growth lines, which you will be able to share with other people.
That virtual pet sim you are working on looks really cool! I've got a few questions about it. Does it run in real time, will the game still run when it's closed (so the pet will still grow but also lose stats overtime), how long could it reasonably be left alone without dying, and does the growth chart work like it does on the connections with both physical and mental care mistakes influencing evolution? Because it looked like that from one of the screenshots.
Thank you! I'm glad you like what I've shown so far!
As for the questions:
It does run in real time! I will also add a turbo mode that will make time go faster, making them needier but also making it take less time to reach the care goals needed to get the higher tier characters.
You can close the main window and have it run in the background or having the pets appear in smaller windows and accompany you while you do other stuff, like I'm doing right now as I write this:
If you close the game completely, it will keep track of the last time it was open so, when you open it again, the pets will age up to a certain point (about the time it would take them to get hungry 30 times.) Their stats will also decrease, but way slower than usual. They can get sick if you don't open the game for a long time, but not die. (Unless they were already one sickness away from death…)
Care does not really work the same way it does on Tamagotchis, but there is physical and mental care.
The pets' stats start out having a maximum capacity of 2. By filling up their meters without letting them stay at 0, this max will increase up to 4.
Good physical care is achieved by getting their stomach's maximum capacity up to 4 and by avoiding sickness.
Good mental care is achieved by getting their mood's maximum capacity up to 4, feeding them different kinds of food and winning different games. So feeding them the same thing over and over again and only playing one game is a bad idea.
This way you won't get the best characters by doing the bare minimum and you won't need to neglect them too badly to get the bad ones!
I did not make or work on Tamaweb, so I don't know which character that is. But I searched on its website and I found [this evolution chart on its wiki.]
Hi! I've been running the my V4.5s for a while now, and I have an odd question regarding baby-to-child evolution. I know it's influenced by the parents' groups, but do you know if it's random like on the V2 and V3, or are the odds skewed in favour of one specific child? For example, with a Kuchi parent, I feel Kuribotchi and Kuchitamatchi should be equally likely, but unless the other parent is Universal, I get Kuchitamatchi the overwhelming majority of the time...
We can't really know that for sure until we get a ROM dump, unfortunately.
It could be skewed, but it's also very common to get very (un)lucky about which characters you get on these versions. I have seen the same combinations of patents resulting in different toddlers, even siblings turning into different things. So it should be random, at least.
Last year I ran a Plus for 10 generations and 9 of those were girls, so even if you are equally likely to get certain characters, it can still really feel like there's a bias sometimes.
How does tamagotchi marriage and date place work in Eternitchi?
Your Tamagotchi has to be at least 10 years old to marry using either connection or the date place, if I recall correctly.
For your Tamagotchi to marry via connection, they also need to have their relationship level with the other Tamagotchi maxed out.
Your Tamagotchi will be able to marry Tamagotchis from the date place right away, but they are all bad care characters, which might make it harder to get new eggs.
I know you are primarily a Tamagotchi blog so sorry if this is outside your area of expertise, but would you happen to know about any v-pet games that have a nature researcher theming similar to the Paradise? I really like what I've seen about it but they are not sold in my country and buying one online would be too expensive, so if possible I'd like to play something similar.
Sorry, I can't think of anything like that right now.
I hope you manage to find a game like that, though!
Which Tamagotchi versions have separate kinds of care mistakes? I know the connections 1-4.5 + Music Star and Tama -Go do, and the originals tracked both care and discipline mistakes but I'm wondering if the v5, Friends, Plus Color and ID do as well. Especially since the Plus Color and ID are pretty similar to the Keitai.
Aside from the ones you already know about, I don't remember there being any more that split the care mistakes like that.
The Odentchi, the Entama and the Uratama do not track them separately.
The V5 works very differently in general. The adult you get is only determined by the bonds % and the items you use when they do the activity call. (Unless it's a special family.) But in order to get the ninja family you have to leave the happy meter empty, and to get the petite one you must leave the hungry one empty. So there are probably separate variables to keep track of that.
I think I remember reading on the page about the Friend's ROM dump that there was only one kind of care mistake on that one.
The Plus Color only has one type of care mistake (not answering a care call within 15 minutes.) As far as I know every color‑screen version after that works the same.
I have a question about Hearithen. Can the witches die if they are neglected too much? I tend to get worried with I'm caring for one for too long when I'm raising multiple, and when they get sick because I accidently got thier weight too high or low because I'm used to tamagotchis dying when they get sick enough times. Once I accidently left the game open when they already had empty stats, and one of my witches (a rook) had to be cured twice, which I never had happen before.
Rather than dying, they can leave if they are neglected. Or be taken away and adopted by others in their tribe, it depends on some factors.
But yeah, you can lose the witch and not be able to take care of them anymore.
I saw that you are working on a new vpet project in another ask. If you are willing to answer, will it be a game? If so, what platform will it be for? Any other details you are willing to share?
It's a simple Godot project. It's technically a game, I suppose. Most of the time (when your pet doesn't need any care) it would just be running while you do other things.
