Let me preface this by saying that I'm grateful to Tabata for introducing us to a great cast of characters. I loved this series so much that I'd resurrected my Tumblr account, penned a fair amount of fics, and interacted with many amazing fellow fans, both online and irl!
I had so much fun waiting for leak nights, reading (and rereading) the manga because I couldn't wait for the anime, reading fics and theories, and more. This was the first anime fandom I've been involved in as it happened—most of the fandoms I'm in are old/completed works—and the Black Clover community made the experience so much more memorable!
That being said, I do think that the ending was bittersweet. While I understand that BC is a battle shonen at its heart, what made it stand out to me in particular is that all of the characters are so unique, both visually and thematically, compared to BC's peers. I fell in love with the world-building and the infinite possibilities of characters to root for. Truthfully, I didn't care for the battles as much.
Unfortunately, Black Clover's strength is also its downfall.
I recognize that creating such a complex story takes so much effort (my unfinished fanfics wave at me in the distance) and that Tabata's and his family's health and wellbeing are at the forefront & are way more important than this. Still, I am disappointed that the ending was rushed. That all these amazing characters with so much potential and backstory to be explored were just left behind. Yes, they all got the happy-ever-afters they deserved & that the primary plot has been resolved, but it still feels like we didn't really get to see how we got there.
I'm sure there are stories with worse endings. (*cough* GoT) But you know, many people invested their time in the series & we've come to love so many of the characters that it just feels sad that their stories are left unfinished/unresolved.
While I am disappointed by its rushed ending, I am thankful for all the joy this series has brought my life and will continue to cherish it. 🍀♥️
