Mightier Than The Sword
Gerson had one regret, but now Alvin has many. A fancomic about my thoughts and theories and who -and what- the Knight is!
While not directly connected, I'd say this one is in the same vein as the Deal With The Devil series! Hope you enjoy!

Part 5: Snowquill <<<
I love this so much
The news of Akira Toriyama’s passing hit many of us hard. His works have greatly influenced so many, not just in the anime and manga industry, but likely across a variety of different industries. Dragonball in its entirety is a behemoth, and will likely continue to be in the future. Dragonball was one of my childhood anime shows, and I enjoyed playing Chrono Trigger when I finally got my hands on it.
My tribute to Akira Toriyama is this fanart of Trunks, Vegeta and Bulma’s son. He was my crush, and will always have a special place in my heart. I’ve drawn him since I was a teen, and did this for the nostalgia. It's my take on a classic photo of Trunks that you may see around the Internet.
Rest in peace, Toriyama-san. Thank you.
I really like the decision to set TotK a few years after BotW, as opposed to the few months we’re used to in direct Zelda sequels. It gave the world a substantial amount of time to change. Hyrule is livelier. In the years of relative peace since Calamity Ganon was vanquished, it’s been allowed to grow and thrive. Hateno Village, the largest Hylian settlement, is becoming economically significant as a tourist destination and food supplier. It’s especially cool to see Riju, Tulin, and Kass’s kids mature into their adult/teenage years, respectively.
Building on that, I think it’s neat that Link is in his early twenties now. This is the oldest Link we’ve ever played as (Skyward Sword held the previous record at 17.5 y/o). He’s had time to adjust to life post-calamity. His traumatic mutism seems to be all but gone. You ever notice just how much he talks in this game? Dialogue options galore, he’s constantly explaining things to other characters, all that. And he’s more expressive, too. He outright laughs when he fuses weapons.
Link’s relationship with Zelda has also had time to grow. Guys. Fellas. Broskis. They live in the same house. In which there is only one bed. They are together. The implication here is that they share most of their meals together, and remember, it’s key to his characterization that he opens up emotionally when he’s cooking or eating. That means there has been a lot of quality bonding time between them.
Before and during the Calamity, Link served as Zelda’s royal bodyguard because the king demanded it of him. Given how he went mostly mute from the pressure of being entrusted with the princess’s safety and being chosen as the Hylian Champion (at age 17, mind you), I’d wager he didn’t particularly like the assignment until he started bonding with her. He looks downright sad when she snaps at him in that one memory at the shrine. Hell, he doesn’t smile once in the memories.
But you know what? I get the feeling that Link protects her now not out of duty like he used to, but out of love. That’s powerful because “love conquers all” and all that, but also, there’s no external pressure to be her bodyguard. Until the Upheaval, he was done being a special little hero. He was just a swordsman, but he still went where Zelda went to protect her. So instead of being crushed by that pressure, protecting her is an expression of his love for her. It’s a choice and he’s doing it because he wants to, not because it was forced on him.
That’s a lot of growth to go through, and it was paced over several years. He doesn’t appear to have aged much, but enough time has passed that Hudson has a daughter who can hold a mature conversation. That’s what, 5 years old? Yeah, Link is in his early twenties. Fucking finally, the task of saving the world falls on the shoulders of an adult (although speaking as someone entering his mid-twenties, that honestly isn’t much better).
I’m starting to ramble here so I’ll leave a parting observation of Link and Zelda’s house in Hateno. Zelda has redecorated a fair bit since moving in with Link, replacing his weapon racks with photos of her horse and various Hyruleans (her subjects who she cares deeply for), but the photo of her, Link, and the Champions is still up. And that’s really cute.
I want a Legend of Zelda game set in this Hyrule that has no threat at all of Calamity Ganon/whatever Ganon is around. I just want Link and Zelda to go around Hyrule, having quests that contribute to the growth and goodwill of the kingdom and its people. I want quests that increase the relationship levels of Link and Zelda because dammit they are in love regardless of what Nintendo doesn't say. I want them to build their house, whether it's in Hateno or in Tarrey Town (Hateno for me). I want them to uncover pieces of historical information and artifacts that lets people learn more about the history of Hyrule. I want to learn about the back stories of the other characters. Give me some more Paya/Tauro (ok maybe that's a stretch but still).
Think Animal Crossing/Stardew Valley in terms of life building, Fire Emblem in terms of relationship (tho tbf I've only played ONE FE game so sue me if I'm basing it on that), all set in a peaceful post TotK world.
My first drawing for 2024. Here's a a great year ahead!
Haru and Kodakku (Psyduck)
I enjoyed this show a lot. I love the stop-motion animation style and it reminded me to the shows I used to watch as a kid.
I wanted to do a quick sketch of Haru and Psyduck/Koddaku, but my "quick sketch" ended up being one day. I only used a small canvas size so this image isn't really that clear (and I ran it through Glaze). But I did put in a lot of effort in this, and I even drew each of the Pokémon on Haru's shirt (Bellossom and Oddish, plus some flowers) on a separate canvas and just copy-pasted it all. Lots of effort, but I enjoyed it.
Funny story: Unlike other anime/games where I knew the Japanese names, I grew up with Pokémon in English—manga, games, anime. So for all my life I knew only their English names (except Pikachu, of course). I watched Pokémon Concierge in Japanese with English subtitles, and around the third episode I realized I was hearing the Japanese names! You get what I mean, right?
Ran the image through Web Glaze for protection against AI, hence the somewhat rough texture.
I don't play League of Legends. I got into Heartsteel because of Baekhyun of EXO. I did enjoy the song though, and would want to have more from the fictional group. Not sure I'll get into the game though, but I'm interested in their backstories.
Is it ok to say I'm super proud of this?! I've been struggling to draw for the past few weeks, and coloring is really one of my weak points. I've been watching tutorials and lessons but I felt like nothing was gelling. After I got the sketch in, I just went YOLO on the coloring, even changing the style halfway through. Along the way, things just clicked. Two days work, and definitely has room for improvement, but I am freakin' proud of myself.
Look, I love Sawako and Shota 100000% but these two have a special place in my heart too.
This.
I will forever reblog this every time it’s on my dash because it should be this loud and simple. 💖

[Verse 1] In my small room Crouching my shoulders Time keeps repeating itself, yeah I think it's a little difficult In the midst of the thick darkness The clock has stopped ticking Staring at me blankly, forcing me to smile Honestly, it's all getting a bit tiring
[Pre-Chorus] Yet again I find myself today in the same place Still in this place Is it alright to stop like this?
[Chorus] When even small dreams feel too heavy When there's even no time to take a sip of warmth When there is no time to spare When I crouch down and thе farthest, I can see are my toes It's okay, just stay likе that for a while We will be fine, simply just like this
[Post-Chorus] Like this, like this We will be fine, just like this

[Verse 2] The shadow I cast is a lonely one Familiar faces, slow footsteps Even the future we were meant to share Disappears somewhere I am at a dead end with a wall blocking me Once more, dragging my drained body back to my room Lying down with the worries that come rushing in
[Pre-Chorus] Yet again I find myself today in the same place Still in this place Can I go any further?
[Chorus] When even small dreams feel too heavy When there's even no time to take a sip of warmth When there is no time to spare When I crouch down and the farthest, I can see are my toes It's okay, just stay like that for a while We will be fine, simply just like this

[Bridge] I will smile When I will look back at these in the end
[Chorus] When my scattered dreams greet me again When your season brings me warmth Certainly, it'll come, my very own moment of glory So, I am going to stay like this for a while We will be fine, just like this (Yeah)

yknow theres a lot of pressure to be successful, particularly on artsy kids whose professions are seen as useless unless theyre famous, but life is fucking hard and sometimes things dont turn out
but i think thats not bad. my dad has wanted to be a musician forever, and hes rly pretty good. but then he joined the military to get away from an abusive family, and then he got married, and then he got divorced, and a lot of horrible shit HAPPENED. he has ptsd and severe anxiety and he could never really get back on the horse. and he never made it as a musician, and now hes 53
but i grew up in a house full of instruments, and he can play all of them, and some of my earliest memories are of him playing guitar on the front porch and me thinking there wasnt a better musician in the world. so. even if you dont get to the stars, exactly, what you do isnt worthless. its not a waste of time if life is difficult and you cant make it, or if you arent famous, or if your work doesn’t influence thousands of people. it will influence someone
there are a million ways to be happy and a million ways to be a successful artist. we create what we do to enhance the human experience and relate to each other and improve ourselves. theres something to be said for just doing that,,,for the sake of doing it, yknow
This is the most comforting, warm and important piece of text I have ever read, and it is so true. No life is wasted that is spent sharing and loving.
I needed to read this. Thank you.

I was watching a playthrough of Breath of the Wild and the player’s Link had this on. I wanted to draw it pushed up. I need to learn more dynamic posing.
Edit: I FORGOT HIS EARRING.

Hoping that this is something that will change in the Philippines soon.
There's a famous saying that goes "Money doesn't buy happiness," but it does buy you comfort and a sense of stability.
I used to imagine what I'd do if I had millions. Now, I just want enough to make sure I don't have to worry about bills and mortgage, health stuff, and have enough left for me to indulge in things that make me happy like travel, a theater show, occasional purchase of toys and games, etc. And of course, enough to support my family.
