I don’t usually blog off the cuff over here, but I was moved to do so tonight. In a continuation of some of the things I discussed here, and also in my oft-repeated conviction that Mei Changsu and Xiao Jingyan are really one person split into two, I think it’s worth considering the idea that whatever Jingsu end up doing, collectively, is optimized for the best possible outcome overall, whether it be rescuing Wei Zheng or who rides off to war at the end. And this includes Jingyan’s conscious knowledge of MCS’ identity.
MCS insists throughout the narrative that Jingyan not be told his identity, and as far as this needs to hold it does, but as soon as that balance shifts, and Jingyan crossing that final threshold becomes a benefit rather than a liability, it clicks, and Jingyan can fully enter into that particular knowledge (and while it is certainly devastating to him, he does understand).
This is all to say that Jingyan’s knowledge of MCS’ full identity, even though it appears to strain credibility at times, is part and parcel of Jingsu’s collective knowledge and actions being optimized for the best overall result. Sometimes this appears to “favour” MCS and other times Jingyan, but what it truly is is the balance between these two souls who are not truly whole unless in concert with one another and, together, can only act as best benefits their shared goal.
receipts.

Nirvana in Fire and Reductress Headlines, Special Edition: Mei Changsu is a Beautiful Opossum
Update: Mei Changsu is (Still) a Beautiful Opossum (and there’s a companion set here [x])
Apparently it's International Red Panda Day, so here's the companion collection to this (x).
Tingsheng, Mei Changsu, and Xiao Jingyan in the early episodes of Nirvana in Fire
Looking at how early episodes of the show use Tingsheng as a way of bringing Mei Changsu and Jingyan closer together (with an end note about how, having fulfilled that purpose, he remains a connection that they both draw upon to communicate with each other).
