Hyeri is caught off guard by her question. “Oh I uhm - ” she pauses. She is caught unprepared without a strategy to rely upon. She often considered her cracker-jack lightning reflexes a blessing - even more so now as she formulated a blatant lie. “I’m a photographer actually! I was working on a new set called Into the Woods; much like the play you know?” It’s stupid - but an explanation was an explanation. All that remained to be seen was whether or not Riza would take the bait.
"What?!" Riza glances back to the dim forest behind them and look back at her friend. Playfully, she pulls on the other lightly, choking her with an arm and giving her hair a ruffle. "You and your adventures, it's getting dark already Hyeri-ah! -and it's okay. I can afford another jacket."
Aside from there wasn't really something that she had left behind, the spy recalls of that something she was trying to follow and track just moments ago. Unfortunately, all she was able to see were blurred human features. Riza hid her frustration by biting her tongue, -she should have tried to know better. But one thing's certain, that person -or most probably creature, was faster than any human or hunter that she knew.
Hyeri was acting so weird. Maybe the years did made their bond brittle. A sad thought for the hunter, she didn't really want to separate from her that time. But she had to go for training, and unfortunately, she was forced to detach from all the friendships she had made. It angered her inside, and Riza refused to do so that she swears to find all the people she had lost -even though she had no idea how.
"Hmm.." she frowns slightly, "Are you planning to work on it now? C'mon~! It been what- years! You should at least treat me dinner."

Jaebum eyed the Bugatti. It wasn’t his only car, but it certainly was his most prized material possession. It was a shame that the authorities had gotten to the delinquent that scratched his car before he did; he would have liked to make him bleed, to hear his cries of agony and Jaebum sucked the liquid of life from him. But he would have to live with how Fate had dictated the present, and at the moment it seemingly wanted to guide him towards the nearest garage. So off he went, - playing along with Fate’s little game without a care in the world. But he should have cared. Jaebum pulled into the garage, eyes forward and ears bombarded with music from the radio. He assumed that the mechanic would be able to spot his problem just by looking at the car, but she was frozen in place - head facing down and eyes dropping to the floor. Perhaps she hadn’t noticed his presence? No - impossible; anyone would have been able to hear his car coming from a mile away. Which lead him to believe that she was facing some sort of problem. The vampire slipped out of the car, his cologne immediately clashing with the dirty air that was typical of garages as he approached the woman. “Excuse me Miss, I -” he paused as soon as he was close enough to see her face. He made a double-take just to make sure, but she truly was who he thought she was. ”R-R-Riza?!” She, the woman that had captivated his heart a year ago. She, whom he had once called princess. Riza. Memories flashed themselves back into Jaebum’s mind, binding him in place as a flurry of emotions invaded him. After not speaking - no, seeing each other for a year, was it coincidence that they met once again? She had been the one that had broken up with him - leaving him feeling especially empty despite his lack of soul. But why was it that the longer he was in her presence, the faster his heart raced? He remembered how he held her close to him, swaying together as the soft summer moonlight shone upon them. Her lips; no - he didn’t just want to take her breath away. He wanted to rip it from her mouth and keep it locked away between his teeth. Was it possible that he still loved her?
"Y-you work here?" he stuttered. How pathetic of him - he never stuttered.
Jaebum ━, in her stupor, she would have believed she had spoke his name out loud. Am I dreaming? ━ the metallic taste of blood that spreads inside her mouth indicated the worse. She was wide awake, and she might have bit her inner cheeks a little too hard. Air filled her lungs as she took in a deep breath.. relax. She has to stay calm, no, she can't just allow herself to lose her cool. But how? Under his gaze she was chained on her stance. He had always that kind of effect on her, and it's always what had amused her, what she once loved ━ now feared.
Riza was panicking inside. A year might have been too early. It felt like it was too soon for them to meet like this, but she.. she did had thought about this moment. Almost everyday from that day, ━of him and her meeting again. The thing is, she didn't know what to say. After running away from him, it was as if it was back to square one. That awkward hi's and hello's; the female can't even remember how they'd met. Scenes flash on the back of her head. Even just the thought of it pulled the side of her lips in a crooked smile. Skin.. heat.. blood.. heart racing.. and more flesh━ indeed, meeting wasn't the highlight of his existence to her.
Or at least, that's what she thought so.
"Obviously," somehow she had managed to find her voice just in time. Forcefully ripping her eyes of the male and direct it towards the Bugatti. It seemed to work, yes. "You've got a new one huh?" she comments, ━ she knew he always gets something new constantly, but her brain isn't functioning right at the moment. Dragging a small wrench with her, she pushed herself from the table to the vehicle, -away from his direct sight, where she felt less suffocated from him, and from the guilt which was starting to burden her.
"So what's wro━ oh." She paused, amused by the deliberate scratch of his ride. Assumptions starts to run inside her head. This situation usually happens when guys cheat right? But in their situation, she believe she was the one who deserves some scratch. Riza just snorts lightly upon examining the damage, "It'll come off after a nice rubbing. Do you have anything t'day? It'll take.. more or less.. half an hour?"

Business was slow that morning; he was supposed to be doing a small item of script on a girl’s ankle, but the customer had cancelled last minute. Now he was simply sitting behind the counter, deciding he may as well stay open and gain as much business as possible. So he had parked himself behind the counter and sat doodling on a piece of paper, his pen leaving behind a flourish of lines that would become his next design if it turned out well enough.
A loud voice made the entrance known above the bell and Jongjin reflexively breathed in. Nothing smelt out of the ordinary for his extended senses; just the usual santising products and underlying smell of ink that permeated the air around the clock. He had no idea what the visitor was on about.
Then he actually focused on her, and a smirk formed on his lips. It was almost surprising how quickly he recognised her despite not having laid his gaze on her for god knows how many years. She came up and leant in closer and he mirrored her. ”Years. Of course I remember you, Riza, I always remember the ones whose butts I’ve kicked.”
Tilting his head to the side slightly with her order, he arched a brow. ”I don’t even know who you’re working for….what three bags will it be? Human, werewolf, vampire? Something more exotic?” he asked, drumming his fingers against the surface. The last time he had seen her was when they had been assigned their particular positions as fully fledged hunters. Now here she was, covered in grease.
Eyes thinned into small slits as she glared at him. His face was more defined, and he was tall -a lot taller than he was used to be. But it was no doubt her long lost old friend, Jongjin. Riza smirks and snort at his comment. Kicking each other's butts has been a long lost hobby back then, -she had missed it, and it was fun while it lasted.
Her job as a spy was never meant to be the combative type. Well, against the supernatural foes she would never be a match after all. So once it was decided that she'd be a stealth her trainings had been more evasive and defensive rather than aggressive. But now that she had thought of it, it has been a long time since she had a good spar. For Riza, Jongjin has always been a challenge.
"Curious?" she pulls away from their staring game first to show a playful yet sly smile, "You'll never know JJ, I might be here just to look after your lazy ass." she banters more before giving a proper answer, "-but it's more like guessing what it was and what's up its sleeve." The female cracked the back of her head. It has been a long time since she had an assignment, and honestly, she hadn't had any practice.
"So what's keeping you busy? Needles and inks?" she amusingly asks back, "I must've been destiny isn't it? I just lived a few blocks away." She would probably slap herself later from the sudden burst of cheesiness.

"Damn I hope I’m not that late" Gyeo Ul muttered in frustration as she made her way to Jaebum’s penthouse suite. The first time she saw it she was awe-strucked. She had never seen something so grand and magnificent— she thought she was dreaming. The matter of how rich he was exactly still overwhelmed her even though he never really flashed his stuff to her. Never really boasted. She appreciated his humility but she still couldn’t help but feel intimidated.
Aside form being late, being underdressed was also one of her worries. She had received his message when she was in school and she had found it rather abrupt. She had a shift at the club and it was supposed to start around 8 and be up until the wee hours of the evening. In order for her to make it to the dinner he had planned, she had to switch shifts and start rather early. So instead of having a three hour window after her shift at the cafe, she only had twenty minutes—- and that didn’t include the time she would need to get downtown. The only clothing she was able to change into was an extra white button down long-sleeved shirt that she always keep in her locker at the club. White button down shirt, black slacks and the two inched heeled leather boots she wears for work. Fabulous.
“Does it really matter what I’m wearing? We’re only having dinner right? just the two of us?” she thought in an attempt to make herself feel better.
Shaking what she thought were irrelevant worries aside she walked towards the door. She paused for a moment, taking a deep breath, before ringing the doorbell.
What was she nervous about? it’s just an ordinary night…
Riza can't really figure how it came out like she and Jaebum were 'back to friend status' again after that one awkward meeting at her garage. Truthfully, she didn't meant it that way. -And for goodness sake she was supposed to avoid the vampire, that's one of the reasons why she cut their ties anyway. However, the dinner invitation had unconsciously tugged the hunter's lips up into a small curve. What is Jaebum planning this time?
✉ sᴍs﹕ ᴊᴀᴇʙᴜᴍ // It better not waste my time or else━ mr.chef.
A text to approve his offer, even though she knew she was going to be 'fashionably' late. Of course, she still has to scrub off all the grease and smell, and that would probably take half an hour to get rid of; she also has to find some nice clothes that she didn't really think she would wear again. But Riza has always been the person who'd put her comfort first than looks, so a loose shirt, skinny pants and military boots should be fine ━all black, of course, and since it's a vampire's home, a hidden wooden stake would come in handy. Just in case. It's part of her job description to never be too vigilant.
Driving her way to the familiar route of the male's mansion, her thoughts were starting to make her crazy. It was always an inner battle when it comes to Jaebum. Her thoughts were spiralling into proving her feelings wrong ━more like taking a trap to prove it's a trap, but there she was barging into the familiar mansion.
Riza was once used to the display of luxury, -only a few changes were made but a year was too long for her not to gape in awe. Luckily, she was good at playing poker face. Finding her way to where the male was, her lips tug into a small smirk upon seeing two other people. Females, -of course. She had to wonder why she was even surprised.
Figures.
So it wasn't just some ordinary dinner after all..

✉ sᴍs: Riza // Oh.
His reply is short, curt, and hasty. He sensed a bit of hostility in her words; but also a sense of insecurity, a shaky Riza faltering at the sight of his messages. No - it wasn’t like that he tried to convince himself. She had always been the headstrong one. The passionate one. The dominant one. There wasn’t any way in the seven Hells that she would show signs of weakness.
But still, he didn’t relent.
✉ sᴍs: Riza // So where do you live now?
He wanted; no - needed to know. He needed to see her face, even if it would just be for one last time. He needed to get things straight; settle things with her that he never had the opportunity to. He hoped she felt the same.
✉ sᴍs: Riza // Please Riza. I need to talk to you.
Are you kidding me? Leave me alone.
Frustration. The words screaming inside her head where left unheard, as her whole body went stiff and tense. It felt like she was going to have stomach cramps soon. For a moment, she had watched her cat play and chase its tail like crazy and thought that she was doing the same, --running in circles. Or was she just admitting it? That she was scared she would fall again even just after pulling herself up. A much frightening thought would that.. it might just be her who felt the same way.

That was all that she would tell. Some sort of memory game perhaps. She could only remember what she had always told him. Once, she would happily share about saving up and buying a small space for her own little hobby. It was supposed to be theirs, but bringing him to the place never really happened. A blessing in disguise, yes. She could only hope he would remember, -but a big part of her doubts it.

She knew her name; so the lycanthrope almost felt bad being unable to recognise the other’s instantaneously. She ravaged her mind in search of a memory - any memory that would allow her to recall exactly who this person was. But it was all too hazy to her, and she was unable to recall any. “Oh - hi!” she replied with a fake smile. Was this person an enemy or ally? She would have to be cautious. “What are you doing here?” she specifically left out the name as she didn’t know it. “Isn’t it a bit too late and far out from the city to be wandering in the woods alone?” It was a silly but valid question that could have been asked of her as well - and she was never quite good with lies. But still she waited for a response - there was literally no reason why a human would have been in the Southern pack’s territory without a death wish. But if she were truly human - she wouldn’t have known that anyway. Her mind brought her back to a warm summer day. She had been playing around on the swing, laughing as someone pushed her with minuscule force from behind. Her best friend. Hyeri smiled, jumping off the swing and running to the stand-up store to buy ice cream. She ordered two; one for herself and one for the other. It was her favourite food, and so anyone she decided to share it with should have felt honoured. The little human girl handed her order to the other, smiling as their eyes locked and their voices giggled in unison. "Riza."
Riza would have leaped and hugged her friend tight, but something feels different. There was some kind of indifference from Hyeri, but she can't really pinpoint what the problem was. Maybe because the friends haven't seen each other for so long. Well.. maybe. However, she could still sense the same Hyeri she had met a before. She hasn't changed. She was still the warm and cheerful girl who would always brighten up her day. Or at least that's what she taught.
"Oh- yeah." For a moment she forgot were they were, "I was looking for my jacket. We did some bird counting here a while ago. Volunteer work. I was a little lost actually." It was easier for Riza to lie now, however she still wishes for a time that she didn't have to.
She mentioned her name and Riza's cheeks immediately rose up into a sincere smile. All the stresses she experienced just moments ago were brushed off with a snap. It's good to see Hyeri again. "You scared me out there." Stepping closer, she swings an arm around the other's slim shoulders, just like when they were younger. "So, what were you doing out in the woods?"

Now that thought about it, he had asked for it. It was his fault that his eyes kept drifting to other women, but he never did anything with them. It wasn’t a sin in his opinion, to eye other girls as long as they’re left alone. She must have misunderstood him. His heart at the time, was reserved only for Riza. But like all unsuccessful relationships, his passion had been snuffed out by her swift hammer of retribution. He sat there on his bed, cuddling a cat pillow that she had given him for their one hundred day anniversary. It reminded him of her, how she was cute one second, and then vivaciously sexy the next. It was at that point that he couldn’t deny it any longer. He missed Riza. ✉ sᴍs: Riza // The ceiling. ✉ sᴍs: Riza // I was thinking about you. ✉ sᴍs: Riza // Can I come over?
Another snort escaped past the female's thin lips. A brutal truth and a blatant lie. As much as she wanted to believe it was just like that, a part of her still hopes that it was genuine. But, she could have been delusional.. and she should stop over-thinking things and feelings that should have been gone a long long time ago.
✉ sᴍs﹕ ᴊᴀᴇʙᴜᴍ // Why?
Riza could feel the the hairs on the back of her hair stood up as she tensed. It was already hard enough for her, and she could still remember how much she suffered. To try not to think about him each day, watch people pass by and not hope it was him, and force herself to detach from him. Seeing him again, -she was frightened. Her heart still beats so fast even with just conversing through messages. This isn't right..

Her answer is definitely far from the brackets of depth that he’s exhibited towards her, but the way she returns his answer kind of gives him a douse of relief for he doesn’t wish to delve into the melancholy that’s lacquered him for quite a while. He doesn’t know her all too well either, only regarding her as a distant friend, and meeting her right before he joined the lantern ritual was nothing more than a coincidence. For a split second, he wonders if it’s fine for him to disclose such a personal matter to someone whom he barely knows—if she’d use it against him at all, but he dismisses the thought. It must be him being too wary, for the woman doesn’t seem like the type.
At the sentence that follows her jest, he blinks. “Noona, you don’t have to,” he sheepishly says, but it seems that it’s a little too late now. “Thank you.” His gratitude is sincere, slipping past his lips with a smile painted over his face. At her attempt to cheer him up, he grins wider, hoping that it’s enough to convey that the forlornness has left him, albeit not entirely. “All right,” he replies to her invitation, positioning his lantern to float it away. He waits for her to do it first, though, before following her action.
She watched her lantern slowly float up in the air joining the others as they mimic the calm summer night's constellations. Stealing glances towards the younger, a heavy feeling burdened Riza. A dumb answer, it's what she would describe what she said just moments ago, and she felt bad. However, her truth was not pleasing and Taeyong's sincerity doesn't deserve any lies.
Riza sighed. She definitely doesn't want to leave their conversation like she did, so she tried to somehow give the best answer. "Actually," she murmured, eyes on her lantern, "I think I do need a million dollars to grant my single wish." Lips slightly curved in a small smile as he eyed the male. "Well" Riza casually sits down to join the crowd's sightseeing on the small hill that they were, "I still have a long way to go before my wish would come true. Any progress with yours?"

Send.. Gasp. What is she even doing?—
He admitted that it was a bit of stretch to message her. But it had been over a year - and he was sure that any misunderstandings between them would either have been forgotten or dropped within those three-hundred and sixty-five long days.
Maybe it had been a little more; or a little less, Jaebum couldn’t remember the exact day. But still, he missed her a little - the way she rested her head on his shoulder. The way they laughed at the stupidest things together. It was all a distant memory to him now. One that he was unsure as to whether or not he wanted to revisit.

Memories buried on the depths of her mind flashed back like a fast forward movie. She remembers, but not quite. Their romance burned so intense that it the fire turned out in an instant as well. Either way, it would have ended the same way. Riza was quite certain about it.
Riza deemed to leave their conversation at that. True he was someone from the past but she never really despised him despite the efforts of avoiding any contact. Something itched inside her. It has been a year, -or more. Sure it wouldn't hurt to catch up right? Anyway they were once 'friends' before they were anything else.

The moment her eyes found its way to meet with his, it lingered too long for her to dismiss it off as an illusion. When she allowed the luxurious drive to park on her rather cozy garage, she had thought it was just another one of those wealthy teenage boys who needs a little 'tinkering', though it's more like showing off their ride on every garage they go. They annoyed her most days. It left the mechanic no choice but to feed praise on egoistic people. But compared to what she's about to deal with, she'd rather allow herself to spend her whole day gawking on someone else's car.
She took in a deep breath for her to speak but nothing came out. Her heart beats so loudly that her head throbbed. She was panicking. What was she supposed to say? After a years without a single word, why speak now? Confusion took over her senses as she eyed the male in disbelief. If it was just like before, she would have leaped into his strong arms, bury her face on the crook of his neck and just take in that addicting scent of his. She had to wonder if he still wears the same kind of perfume she loved on him. But even if she ached to hold him just one more time; she can't.. and she won't.
Jaebum still looked the same, if not, even much more gorgeous than he was before. Riza almost felt bitter at how he looked so happy, while she just stood there, blankly staring at him like an idiot. All rush of emotions and thoughts drained out into a single laughter. What an awkward situation. But maybe, she just had to get it over with today. Put the past behind and carry on. It's just for today right? Holding the though it mind, Riza finally found the courage to broke her silence, "H-hi," she greets him with a rather minute smile. Perhaps, she wasn't good with masking her feelings after all.

Memories were a figment of the past. Nothing more than mere prods to live through hell once again - or at least it was so for her. Hyeri couldn’t remember a time before her first shift from man to beast; it was all too hazy for her. In truth, she couldn’t recall the faces of her parents nor the faces of her childhood friends - assuming that she had any. She was sure she did; fortunate enough to have another form of solace other than her family. The issue that she was faced with not one of forgetting the past, but rather one of reliving it.
The old name for their kind was shapeshifter, individuals who broke the boundaries and walked freely between the state of man and beast. The woods were their natural habitat, mystical and almost dream-like. They were revered as the protectorates of the human race, proud and stalwart. But man was ambitious; and grew jealous of the power that they did not have. And so they created the hunters - individuals trained to ‘pacify’ as they called it, supernatural creatures in the name of conflict settlement. Their peace was a lie; in that they only sought power, dominance, and victory above all others to claim themselves as the ‘protectorates’ of man. Hyeri despised them. When she had first turned, it was a hunter that had approached her and threatened her with the death of her family. But it was her kin that saved her, and for that she was forever in their debt.
But there was something different in the woods than what she would have imagined she would see today. A strange scent she did not recognise to be commonplace; but sure enough was one that she had previously known. She approached the stranger cautiously, claws prepared and shifting at the ready; before she befell a face that she thought she knew. She had forgotten her past - but somehow she felt as if she was reliving it.
Light steps and soft breaths, the hunter threaded lightly across the damp floor of the dense forest. The sun was already starting to set and the forest floor was getting more dim by the minute. Unfortunately, she would have to give up on her target for the day. The dark might be good for sneaking but never for a confrontation. She has to go. She can't risk her own safety with the threat of danger just looming around the corner. After all, she was still prey despite the job title.
More obstacles were found as she finds herself avoiding more hazards than she had before. But she was practiced and sharp, skipping and seeking refuge from each tree's cover, planning to do that until she would reach the end of the forest. Slowly, but surely.
Temperature drops as the gentle blow of the night's wind settles in, making the human shiver in her place; -and the chorus of the leaves is only making it harder for her to listen to her surroundings. Now she was desperate to go. Seeing a few flickering lights from a few meters away, her heart skipped a beat. She was close to safe ground.
One more look around, she pushed herself away from a tree. A shadow. Riza froze. Her ears rung loudly like alarm as the figure showed up in front of her. "Hyeri?!" Somehow, Riza ended up surprised than fearing the sight. A face so familiar was the least of what she expects to see on a place like they were. She gazed upon the female in front of her with amusement. Was she the one she's been following all along? It can't be.
