                               – HIATUS NOTICE –

                I’m putting this blog on hiatus as of today.                 Most of my favorite blogs are inactive and                 I’ve had a hard time mustering the motivation                 for Finn’s interactions lately. The rp fandom                 has seemed a bit negative, as well, and with                 The 100 filming/on hiatus I think we all have                 a little cabin fever. That’s my excuse, at least.                 I’ll probably come back at some point, but                 as of now you can find me at Miller (who I’m                 making semi-active for some of the reasons                 stated above) or my personal.

    At that, she stops short and spins on her heel to look     at him, some mix of a hurt and angry look on her face.

              “No, but he is my co-leader, and he’s done               a hell of a lot more to make me trust him than               you have recently.”

    Frankly, shocked that she’s yet to lose her footing, the     blonde turns back around. Some part of her wishes she     could talk to Finn, articulate why exactly she’s reacting     the way she is —- while the rest of her is screaming fuck it.

    His breath catches in his chest and for a moment he’s     stopped in his tracks, scared to even move a muscle     under her watch.

          “I . . . I should have told you. You’re right. But           I’m still on your side, Clarke. I’m one of the           good guys and you need me.”

    Finn lets her take a few steps ahead. He’s been giving     her nothing but space, yet perhaps she’s not ready     for closing the distance again. It stings a lot little,     because without her his choices if friends runs pretty     thin.

     “ Ask your mom to make me some soup then, ”      Raven muttered, sneezing into  her  sleeve,      “ I love your mom’s soup… ”

   “ She will, too. ”  He shook his head with    what looked like a spark of sibling jealousy.     “ You’re her favorite. And she didn’t even    give birth to you! ”

nothing against your opinion because it is yours after all and I respect it. But I felt like regardless to whatever color Lincoln may be they still would have done that. Just as the grounders had done to Murphy when they captured him. But that just the way i see it.

That’s a fair opinion; however, I believe color blindness isn’t really an option here. A person’s race and culture is important to who they are, it’s something that should not be ignored or disrespected by appropriation or mockery. It doesn’t matter if Murphy and Lincoln have been treated similarly, because Lincoln is Black and his treatment evokes a certain historical context that needs to be taken into account here.

The imagery of what happened to Lincoln in ‘Contents Under Pressure’ is very reminiscent of the treatment of enslaved Blacks in Western culture. Though the society within the world of The 100 may be ‘color blind’, the viewers watching the show are not. Many people of color may find that scene disrespectful because of what it evokes from our history (speaking from an American standpoint). Ricky is a Black man and that should not be ignored when considering his treatment in that scene.

I am not Black; however, as a Native American man, I have taken great offense to much of the Grounder concept presented in the show. The Grounders are portrayed similarly to the indigenous peoples who inhabited the West before colonization. Rothenberg has stated that the Grounder look is inspired by Native wardrobe and warpaint and yet not a single Grounder (that we know of) is Native. He and many others have also drawn parallels from the colonization of the West to the Hundred encountering the ‘savages’ of the Earth. If the show spent less time making Apache and Pocahontas jokes and more time having a dialogue about Native American culture and their colonization, I would have more respect.

As of now, I hold my opinion that the show evokes very racist imagery and undertones without providing a much needed dialogue to back itself up. People of color find it offensive and that’s not something that should be dismissed.

      haaaa okay well i honestly see it as subtle cultural appropriation.        the entire grounder concept is hella full of appropriation and from       the moment they bound lincoln and began whipping him, i knew       it was a racist show. the shit just continues without any indication       of change in the near future. they pride themselves on being        progressive but they have a long fucking way to go.

She wasn’t the only one who felt they were safer with guns than without –– Finn; however, did not share that same view. Guns in the hands of a bunch of angry, rebellious delinquents (no matter how petty some of their crimes may have been) seemed very unsafe.
