Campaign 4 Episode 6: Knives and Thorns

something about this campaign being so focused on mothers and the impact that they have on their children is making me feel actually insane in a way i can’t articulate yet. wick remembering his mother’s lessons and faith and unlocking divinity, sylandri being vaelus’s actual mother and not simply her goddess, azune imagining his mother’s face when he casts, thaisha and occtis’s mother-son relationship but also thaisha’s relationship with her own children and occtis’ narratively absent mother we’ve been given hints will be important to his story. it’s all about mothers

I suppose I do ship wick/tyranny in the traditional sense but I also am so into “a secret third thing” ships idk like where love and loyalty and identity and duty are all mixed up and not easily defined. Nobody tell them that straight sex exists I need them to keep being weird and repressed

someone else must have talked about this already but i love the allegory sam & brennan are making with wic’s religion and christianity snuffing out pagan traditions and rites and spirits and deeming it all ‘demonic’ while worshipping what is essentially a god who did in fact require a blood sacrifice (jesus christ, grandpa angel in their basement). that little moment with the fae professor bristling at wic and snapping at him about not leaving bread and milk out for the small folk anymore- that felt so clear to me as the catholic church stigmatizing offerings to spirits and believing in magic and god it’s just…so delicious to me.

Not just wings made of light but a deal with a hag on episode 6 too. Thimble gave a beautiful memory to Sallow and that Kattigan was there to hear it so he can remind her that memory that now is gone it's beautiful too. Big things are given so they can find Teor's brother and more information of what happened to Thjazi and I'm still doubting more and more about what he did.

The difference between tyranny's reaction to when Wic yelled at her VS when Kattigan yelled at her is sooo fascinating to me.

I think it's partly because she actually admitted to wrongdoing before getting scolded this time.

A lot of sad stuff happened this episode, but that moment made me feel so bad for her, even if it was an understandable reaction from Katt with our hints at his past. It definitely won't help her get out of the mindset of "what you are is inherently bad"
