…………………………………………………………………………….
What Jackie meant by “we can fix up your bike” was actually just her providing the equipment and watching Nat fix the bike.
Jackie was sitting on an old crate, she doesn’t go into her garage much. It’s way too dirty for her so she helplessly sat there while Nat did all the work.
She was talking in a stream of sentences that didn’t seem to end. She became increasingly aware that Nat, Natalie was in her home, and well it made her kinda nervous. She was talking a lot to avoid being boring, but then she started to think she was talking too much due to the fact she didn’t give Nat a chance to respond to anything she was saying.
She was unsure why she was so nervous, it’s just Nat. The same girl who taught her how to smoke her first (and only) cigarette, the same girl who showed her a special way to tie her shoelaces extra tight before their first big game, and the same girl who took her side after the whole Shauna and Jeff incident when no one else did.
Jackie has always thought Nat was cool, this feeling of nervousness isn’t new it’s just more intense now. She didn’t think Nat was cool because she was jealous, and well it would make sense if Jackie was jealous.
Nat can have any guy she wants, she’s seen with a lot of the stoners, rocker type guys but it’s not much of a secret (much to their dismay) that she also gets with some of the jocks too. Jackie would love to been seen as this beautiful or sexy like Nat is, but she couldn’t bring herself to feel anything ugly like envy towards Nat.
She never understand why the jocks hide her. Nats stunning she should be shown off regardless of the rumours about her. If Jackie was one of those guys she’d never hide Nat, but Jackie isn’t one of those guys.
Jackie is not a guy.
Nat must of noticed Jackie’s rambling had paused, because she was quickly snapped out of her blank stare.
“Hey earth to Jackie”
Her tone was teasing, she was sat there with that cocky grin she gets, deep dimples on each side of her face.
Jackie noticed there was some oil smeared on Nats hand, her gaze trailed up her arm, to her bicep where there was a slight splatter too. The brown black of the dirt stood out sharply against her skin though shadow of her flexed muscle swallowed it.
Eventually Jackie came to the realisation that Nat did indeed want her attention.
“Oh um- yeah sorry..what?!”
Nat let out a little breathy laugh
“finally, One minute you’re talking my ear off, next you’re on a whole different planet.”
Jackie squinted at her.
“Okay Nat I wouldn’t say a WHOLE other planet, I was-“
“no it’s exactly what it was, you were so quiet I thought something was seriously wrong I was gonna call 911. I’ve never seen Jackie Taylor so quiet”
Nat interjected, she was giggling at this point.
“Okay, okay I get it I talk a lot.”
Jackie pretended to be annoyed but really her heart fluttered at the way Nat said her name through her choked laughs.
“I just like sharing my wisdom”
“Yeah yeah, your wisdom just sounds a lot more like gossip to me but okay”
Nats voice had become slightly raspy from laughing. She looked up through her eyelashes with a soft smile, dimples still deep in her cheeks her oily hands were clasped together.
This was when Jackie’s ears were burdened with hearing what was inevitable.
“I think my work here is done Taylor”
Nat said clapping her hands together and straightening her posture.
Jackie got this weird feeling, a feeling she was very unsure of. It’s like she panicked at the thought of Nat leaving, she had so much fun in the hour they had spent together. Her heart was beating a little faster and her face felt like it was dropping
“wait!”
She might have accidentally said her rapid inner monologue out loud because that came out way too suddenly and intense.
Nat looked a little confused but with an amused smile hidden behind it.
Jackie had to quickly come up with an excuse for Nat to stay-she hadn’t had gotten this far in her panicked spiral.
“Um, it’s like a million degrees out there and you’re covered in oil, you’ll cook alive or something like that.”
Jackie said this wide eyed looking everywhere but at Nat.
“I think cooking oil and bike oil are a little bit different from each other Jackie. Wait didn’t you take home economics?? I feel like you should know this, otherwise I feel bad for all the people you’ve cooked for”
Nat’s eyes sparkled with amusement deep into Jackie.
“Okay shut up I do know the difference, I got an A in that class mind you. My cooking was delicious”
she said in a pout.
“You just never know, people are getting heat exhaustion too easily these days. Misty was practically having a field day with all those players collapsing. It’s just to be safe.”
Jackie said all this looking down while twiddling her thumbs.
Nat noticed she seemed kinda vulnerable, she’s not one to take handouts usually. Especially ones from people 2 social classes above her. Even today it was a miracle she accepted the bike tires let alone the ride, but Jackie is different.
Jackie has stuck with Nat despite all of her efforts to push her away. People who treated Nat like a charity case usually don’t have the willpower to stick through her harshness and avoidance. She admired Jackie for this, she’s always been one to set her mind to things.
“Yeah okay ill listen to you’re words of wisdom Taylor, what’s your plan”
Jackie practically lit up the entire room with her smile.
“Well I was thinking we could go swim in my pool or something? I have a spare swimsuit you could borrow.”
Her voice was soft.
Nat found this quite endearing.
“Yeah to avoid heatstroke and all that”
“Exactly”
Nat followed Jackie through her house and up the oak staircase. She appreciated at all the perfectly put up framed pictures, Nat never had that in her home.
They got to Jackie’s room and Nat was still trailing behind her until they got to the en-suite. She pulled herself up to sit on the counter space by the sink while Jackie was rummaging through the cabinet, eventually she came out with a little pink wash cloth.
“Ah knew I had a spare one” she said with slight victory in her voice.
She ran the water a little longer than she needed to until it hit a lukewarm temperature, then she slotted herself in between Nats dangling legs and picked up her hand.
Nats eyes widened, she didn’t understand why Jackie was doing this she was perfectly capable on cleaning herself. Jackie is much more gentle than she would have been though.
Jackie looked up at Nat, some hair blocking her vision but she could see her big eyes and pursed lips. She let out a soft laugh and smoothed her thumb over Nats palm so she’d unclench her fist. Though when Nats hand was lied flat she kept her thumb there still smoothing faint strokes.
“I thought I’d give you some princess treatment since you did all the hard work on your own, don’t look so confused Nat.”
Jackie said this smugly she was confident in her lie, even though she didn’t understand why she was lying.
“Oh, oh yeah.”
This came out in a stutter, Nat got flustered heat rising to her cheeks. She didn’t realise her emotions were so readable.
After the oil from her hands was gone, Jackie slowly worked up her arm. Her hand moved from Nats palm to her forearm holding it tightly. The dirt was tougher to get off here she had to rub harder, her eyebrows knitted together.
Nat looked deep into her face, she knew Jackie was too focused to notice her staring. Nat finds her especially beautiful when she’s determined to do something, there’s such care in her eyes.
Jackie peered up at Nat when she reached her bicep, Nat didn’t look away. She was sort of asking for permission with that glance and the look on Nats face was enough of an answer. Jackie held her muscle firmly taking long slow strokes of the wash cloth up and down her arm. Soon the oil disappeared, Jackie wished it would have never washed away. They stayed like that for a second, Jackie holding her and Nat looking down into her face.
“Uh perfect, it’s like it was never there.”
Jackie backed away, her expression now unreadable.
“Yeah thanks Taylor, you did it better than I could have”
there was a tinge of longing in Nats voice.
“I’m gonna go grab a swimsuit for you then we can head down to the pool.”
Jackie was already backing out the door, leaving Nat alone in the bathroom. She just sat on the countertop thinking about the smoothing circles of Jackie’s thumb.
Nat would have not let anyone else drive her home, give her the tires or hang out with her let alone to touch her so softly.
She got mad at herself, she knew what was happening. She was taking advantage of her, Jackie had everything that Nat didn’t. They had polar opposite lives, Jackie came from a loving home, she always had friends, she got good grades (except in French), and there was no nasty rumours about her.
Jackie was a nice girl and Nat was not. Of course she’d be attracted to this, but Jackie doesn’t need this in her life. Jackie doesn’t need a girl who lives up to those rumours, are they even rumours if they are true?? Nat knows she’s a slut, she knows she’s not capable on loving someone nicely like the way Jackie does. Being physical with someone is the only way she knows how to connect with them, Jackie doesn’t need that. She also knows she’s a dyke, more than people would think too. She’s such a dyke she doesn’t even feel fully like a girl and that’s something so confusing she can never burden someone with it.
Nat was even more angry at herself after this spiral, she had to go before she ruins anything. She hopped off the counter and burst through the door, Jackie was already in her swimsuit grabbing towels. The spare swimsuit that she left for Nat was neatly laid out with care on her made bed.
“Sorry Jackie I need to go home, my moms probably down a bottle of wine already”
She said this harsher than she intended to.
“Oh”
Nats almost halfway down the stairs when Jackie makes her best effort to follow her.
“Can I at least give you a ride home”
“No Jackie, I got it I’m fine”
She knows she must of said this a little too loud because she’s never seen Jackie look so disappointed. Nat left the house anyway she didn’t need to risk disappointing her more.
Jackie was left standing there alone. She knew she must have fucked up because she remembered that Nat hates going home especially when her mom is drunk. She shouldn’t have acted so weird, she probably scared Nat off. She knew she was too eager, too touchy, too flustered. What was wrong with her?? Why was she like this with Nat she’s normal around all her other friends. Jackie never gets nervous socially she can talk to anyone, but Nat, Nat is different. Really different.
Oh.
note: okay I kinda took a long break but I’m back to writing, I’m still open to requests and stuff too. Sorry if my spelling and grammar are shit and of the words r spaced weirdly.
summery: 90s no crash au. Jackie and Nat are driving home and they take in some scenery they haven’t noticed before

…………………………………………………………………………….
It was a lot cooler in Jackie’s car compared to the heat on the field. Wind blew through as Jackie drove, the pink tree air freshener was swaying back and forth. Jackie’s blonde baby hairs perfectly framed her face brushing over her button nose, the sunlight hit just right too it looked as if she was glowing.
Nat admired this view, she thought the girl looked like a human version of summer. A good childhood summer, she looked at Jackie’s freckles pouring out the sleeves of her Jersey. It reminded her of when she was little and soft warm beach sand would get stuck to her skin.
Jackie caught her staring, she was confused about the look on Nat’s face. She noticed her light pink chapped lips were slightly pursed, a usual expression for Nat when she’s deep in thought. Jackie remembered this from the short time they were in the same math class together freshman year. Something was slightly different though, it’s like Jackie could see every shade of blue in Nat’s eyes. She didn’t have her regular heavy lidded look on her face but instead she had a more alive demeanour.
This exchange of looks continued for a few seconds more until they both broke it off in a flustered panic out of embarrassment due to being caught, except they weren’t exactly sure what they felt caught about. Jackie kept her eyes on the road and Nat looked out her respected window for a couple minutes after. That was until Jackie cleared her throat “uh hey Nat why don’t you pick a cassette to put in the deck.” She shot Nat a half smile trying not to look too eager. Jackie wondered what Nat would pick or if she’d even like any of the options because she knows Nat is such a music snob- her train of thought was broken off by Nat loudly exclaiming.
“Jackie man you gotta be kidding me. Half of these are ABBA or Mariah Carey”
“Yeah and what’s wrong with that Natalie” Jackie said in an high pitched annoyed tone purposefully emphasising Nat’s name to bother her.
Nat scoffed “come on you know it’s cheesy.”
Jackie shot her a playful side eye that broke into concealed smile as soon as she saw Nat’s pointy canines peaking out of her grin.
Jackie reached a little deeper into the car compartment and dug out ‘rumours’ by Fleetwood Mac. She dangled it in front of Nat’s face with her pointer and index finger. “Here you happy now? Sorry we can’t all be pretentious music nerds like you”
Nat grabbed that cassette so quick, popped it into the deck and skipped to ‘go your own way’
Jackie’s excited smile when the song started playing made Nat feel so light, it felt as though her chest loosed when the ecstatic girl started to sign along.
Eventually the view out the car window had become more urbanised with nice big houses. Nat wondered what type of lucky people live like that. “We are actually gonna pass by my house in a second, and I have spare tires in my garage. We could try fix up your bike.” Oh Jackie is the type of lucky person to live in a house like that Nat thought.
Nat hesitated “oh um, won’t your parents mind? Me stealing your bike tires and all”
“It’s not stealing Nat, I offered.”
Jackie’s looked over and Nat was still peering up at her through her dark eyelashes seeming unsure.
“You’re coming in I’ve decided” Jackie said sternly
The other girl scoffed “okay captain”
note: sorry this took a few days and sorry it’s short again, I was stressing abt getting Phoebe tickets loll. next chapter it’s gonna get more interesting I promise 🫡🫡
summery: 90s no crash au. Nat finds a her bike tire slashed after practice and has an unexpected ride home
warnings: use of the word dyke and slut
…………………………………………………………………………….
It was a hot early summer afternoon, and a really intense practice had just taken place. Tai was yelling at Mari for some reason and the air was thick whenever Shauna and Jackie were near each other.
All Nat wanted to do was get on her bike and go home, maybe to chug a litre of cold Pepsi on her porch to cool down too. But of course with her luck her tire was slashed, presumably by some dumb jock who just wanted to be a dickhead.
She became even luckier when the alarm of Jackie Taylor’s voice (more like squeak) startled her.
“Omg. Nat your tire?! What happened!” She asked Nat like she knew all the answers
“I got my keys and slashed the tire myself Jackie. I don’t know what happened”
Jackie looked unimpressed with the answer, her arms folded over her sweaty jersey. She couldn’t understand how someone could slash a tire just because they wanted to. However it made perfect sense to Nat.
There’s a stark difference between Jackie and Nat. Jackie was a nice girl, she had plenty of friends and well to Nat she just always looked neat and pretty in an effortless way.
Nat could make a long list of why she thinks this about Jackie. To start she always looked tan even in winter, her legs always smooth like she just shaved, no matter how hard that practice was she never smelled of sweat but flowers instead and how Jackie just always had the most radiant smile on her face.
Thinking about this urged a weird feeling in Nat, it wasn’t hate or envy but more of an admiration. Jackie was always kind to her, inviting her on all the team sleepovers and hangouts despite the rumours of her being a ‘slut’ or ‘dyke’. This is why Jackie was nice and Nat was not, because Nat never had a radiant smile on her face or Nat never showed up to the sleepovers even though she knew how much Jackie loved them. This is why Nat’s tires get slashed and Jackie’s doesn’t.
Jackie could start to see Nat’s eyeliner smudging due to the sweat and heat, this is when a great idea struck her. Her expression changed from unimpressed to excited, her golden ponytail swinging with her body as she bounced onto the tips of her shoes.
“Nat I’ll give you a ride! Your bike can fit in the back of my jeep and everything”
Nat looks back at the flashy car, when she turns to face Jackie again all she can see is big hopeful eyes and dimples.
“Thanks Jackie, a ride would be appreciated”
“Perfect, grab your bike and let’s get outta here before that douchebag comes back. I’d like to see his face when he hears what I gotta say”
Nat grabbed her bike and wheeled it along the back wheel
She scoffed “okay mr tough guy”
note: this chapter is kinda short and it will become more interesting and yearning and gay in the next chapter I promise lol.
your posts r very cool :3 would you do a lottienat hc/moodboard post like the ones you did for each of them individually? if you're interested that is !!
Lottienat mood board + head cannons
(also thank you!!)
nat was very intimidated of lottie at first, she didn’t give her much of a chance to make a good impression either. until lottie and nat were stuck with each other after a house party.
since that night nat realised lottie isn’t overly confident like her other ‘popular friends’. lottie just doesn’t have a filter, nat finds it endearing how she just says whatever comes through her head.
lottie thinks nat is so cool, she likes how nat stands up for what she thinks is right and how passionate she is about her interests.
lottie and nat would still not talk to each other much in school after all this though, until nat called her for ‘help’ with her math homework
the phone calls then became more regular
one night lottie was keeping nat on the phone suspiciously longer, nat kinda realised it was because lottie was too scared to sleep. she biked to her house in 15 minutes (it shoulda taken 30)
nat didn’t ask lottie any questions abt why she was scared and didn’t make her feel bad for it, they just lied down together until lottie fell asleep (nat actually struggled not to fall asleep first despite her insomnia, she made herself stay awake until she knew lottie was okay)
after that sleepovers then became quite regular, they started to feel really comfortable in each other company
they would take turns picking movies, nat picking some old horror and lottie picking something like ‘the craft’
lottie would help nat cut her hair, she’d get actual hair cutting scissors and not just kitchen ones like nat usually uses
nat would also let lottie draw and paint ‘tattoos’ on her skin, she’d promise lottie that one day she’d actually get one of her designs fr
lottie would be constantly drawing nat and not even to show her she’d do it just because she loves to
nat usually hates physical touch, she thinks friends that hug all the time are performative and wonders how they even like it. but lottie is her exception, she’d play with lotties hair for however long lottie needed until she felt relaxed again
note: I think these head cannons are all platonic lottienat or when they haven’t realised they like each other yet lol.
I wanna elaborate more on some of these, I kinda have an idea for a fic in my head I just don’t know where to start so if anyone has requests or ideas that would help!!
her bedroom is her favourite place, she keeps it really neat and has so many fairy lights strung around the room
she hates ankle socks, she only wears the cute white ones that peak out of her shoes
wears makeup every day to school
she loves being team captain, she’ll find herself giving unwarranted advice to the team even outside of soccer
shes her grandmothers favourite grandchild, her grandmother also taught her how to sew and now she loves it
her favourite colours are light yellow, light pink and light green
she wanted to do cheerleading but her mom made her do soccer instead (she’s grateful for being forced into soccer now but at first she was really annoyed)
she always wanted to jeff to buy her flowers but he never did
she actually stopped being friends with shauna and broke up with jeff after everything that happened
not being friends with shauna was harder than breaking up with jeff. everything reminded her of their friendship but she knew it was better off to be alone than to accept the love shauna gave her
has deep insecurities and lacks self worth, she realises this too and she’s trying to work on it
very much closeted lesbian, she only realised after her fight with shauna. part of her wished they were still friends so she could tell her (for some comfort) because she can’t fathom telling anyone else but shauna
her playlist
go your own way- fleetwood mac
it ain’t me babe- joan baez
the winner takes it all- abba
forever young- alphaville
kiss me- sixpence non the richer
what’s up- the four non blondes
breakfast at tiffany’s- deep blue something

I think she’d listen to a lot of pop music, music that she’d be able to jump around in her bedroom to
