I was reading earlier today about how, in Scandinavian folklore, the nomenclature that's usually rendered as "ring" in modern English can variously refer to bracelets, armlets, or torcs as well as to finger rings. It's usually clear from context which is intended, though there are some legendary "rings" whose form is not specified in surviving accounts.
This ambiguity is, of course, not present in Tolkien's Lord of the Rings; though the work and its titular object are inspired by these sagas, the One Ring is clearly described as a finger ring. However, my brain has seized upon the finger-ring-or-bracelet ambiguity and spontaneously produced an anachronistic 1990s teen movie version of The Lord of the Rings in which the One "Ring" is a cursed slap bracelet.

Stealing this from my own Twitter because I think I'm hilarious
Also Papalymo deserved better and I miss him
Alastor did the gay hand so much already, I have trouble believing that nobody realized yet.
(Edit: Yes, you can use the last pic as a reaction image lol or a pfp, just don't remove the tag.)
I love FF14 because some days I am playing dollhouse, some days I am crying over a beautiful story and some days I am getting my ass saved on the battlefield by a guy in a frog suit named Tomato Man

Hey if you’re schizophrenic/psychotic I just want you to know that you’re a wonderful person and that you deserve so much better than the demonization, marginalization and stigmatization you face in this society.
Please consider reblogging this/other positivity posts for schizophrenic/psychotic people every once in a while. If you have more than 100 followers, odds are that a couple of them experiences psychosis and that they rarely see positivity posts for people with their symptoms.
TIL male cheetahs may chirp when separated from members of their group, and when reunited. Mothers and cubs will also do this.
Just picturing miqo WoL, after working with the scions for months, accidentally chirping at Tataru when he returns to the Rising Stones. Probably doesn’t even realize he’s done it until he notices Y’shtola smirking into her tea.
Specifically picturing J’qupoh regularly chirping at Sylphie and Gatty everytime he visits them, because he’s basically adopted them, emotionally if not legally.
Or the exarch, seeing the Warrior in person for the first time since he woke, desperately holding one back, both to continue to hide that he’s a miqo’te mystel and because a stranger has no reason to be reacting in such a way.
Both male and female will also chirp when distressed. I imagine there was a lot of chirping heard in Ultima Thule.
@himbopyre Yes!! I need all the cat/big cat behaviors and noises for miqo’te and hrothgar please.
BUT there’s also room for expanding on the purring! It can also be done as a soothing/self-soothing action, and cats will do it when stressed or injured. Some cats will cuddle up with their buddies when they’re injured and purr away. There’s even some studies that suggest it has an actual benefit towards healing/bone density!
Imagine a healer miqo who sounds like a damn engine while they’re at work - both as a soothing act but also an instinctive thing to make the healing a little more effective. Their patient gets both the emotional and physical benefits of purring kitties.
WoL sidling up to G’raha while he’s working himself to exhaustion trying to get the Scions back to the Source, like “if you won’t rest, at least let me do this for you”.
Or a less cheerful idea: maybe it’s not common knowledge, or easily forgotten, that miqo’te purring =/= happy. Especially with a miqo’te Warrior of Light, who is already often trying to brush off their stress and their companions’ worry. Maybe before they learn better, some of the Scions assume they’re doing much better than they really are, despite everything, given the way the WoL is always purring whenever they’re at rest. But whether it’s just general stress from the non-stop disasters and battles, or lingering aches catching up to them (or the Light breaking them), miqo WoL is actually rumbling away as a subconscious way to make themselves feel better, and then using it to deflect by trying to soothe anyone worrying over them instead when it gets pointed out.
Y’shtola’s presence amongst the Scions wouldn’t necessarily mean they’d realize. I imagine her to also be the type to take advantage of people assuming to keep any undue worry off her, and unlikely to correct them immediately. You know, given the whole “Don’t worry about me, just burning through my life force casually” thing. Though she’d at least notice what was happening and might say something in private.
you’re in their (laser) sights
Valuable lessons taught by each of the expansions
