Like what do you mean she has no interiority do you think just because she talks about her dead to her husband a lot means she has no interiority??? Then you don’t know what interiority means!!

There was thought and intention and craft put behind her and her role in the story and for that to be erased or flattened in a tournament about fandom misogyny makes me incensed

Thinking about this and other comments I’ve seen but sometimes I wonder if people misconstrued that misogyny directed against female characters was just saying mean things about that character or erasing her in favor of shipping…when in reality the misogyny at play is that fans don’t engage with female characters on the same level they do with a male character. That is why fans flatten her character and erase her in favor of shipping in the first place—they make no effort to engage!

Male characters (especially if they’re white or can be read as white) get read into, fans are more willing to critically think about and unpack a male character’s behaviors, personality and story impact.

Female characters do not get that same treatment. Looking at a female character and going “uwu smol bean” “step on me dommy mommy” or other comments that are blanket positive statements (that can be said about most characters) is not the same as appreciating a character. Like comments like that are fine I guess but without looking deeper, without extrapolating her character, it’s just lip service in the end.

Yes writers bring their own biases into their work. Yes sometimes writers don’t want to explore the depth of a female character, and they don’t write that depth. But that is also changing. There is so much media out there with amazing female characters, and fandom mostly stays the same.

In conclusion…… idk take a minute to think about why a female character behaves how she does without blaming it on writers and see what you come up with. You can do it. I believe in you.
